Reactive Power Compensator for Pulsed Power Electric Network of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (국제 열핵융합실험로 펄스전원계통의 무효전력보상기 검증)

  • Analysis and verification of reactive power compensator (RPC) for ITER pulsed power electric network (PPEN) are described in this paper. The RPC system is rated for a nominal power of 250 Mvar necessary to comply with the allowable reactive power limit value from the grid 200 Mvar. This system is currently under construction and is based on static var compensation technology with a thyristor-controlled reactor and a harmonic filter. The RPC minimizes reactive power from grid using prediction of reactive power consumption of AC-DC converters. The feasibility of the reactive power compensation was verified by assembling a real controller and implementing ITER PPEN in the real time digital simulator for the hardware-in-loop facility. When maximum reactive power is reached, grid voltage is stabilized and maximum reactive power decreased from 120 Mvar to 40 Mvar via the reactive power prediction method.

  • The best method is selected among the 3 digital dynamic compensation methods which are developed or applied for the Rhodium self-powered neutron detector. The three digital dynamic compensation methods are the existing Dominant Pol Tustin method of the COLSS(Core Operating Limit Supervisory System), the Direct Inversion method and Kalman Filter method. The Direct Inversion method is an improved method of D. Hoppe and R. Maletti and the Kalman Filter method is developed using the Kalman Filter. Response times of the compensated signals to achieve 90% of a step input are 28.1, 17.2 and 6.5 seconds respectively for the same noise gain telling that the Kalman Filter method is the best amens the 3 methods.

  • LDC(Line Drop Compensation) is widely used in controlling ULTC(Under Load Tap Changer) output voltage at distribution substation. However, LDC may experience some difficulties in voltage control due to renewable energy resources and distributed generations. Therefore, more advanced voltage control algorithm is necessary to deal with these problems. In this paper, a modified voltage control algorithm for ULTC and DG is suggested. ULTC is operated with the voltages measured at various points in distribution system and prevents overvoltage and undervoltage in the distribution feeders. Reactive power controller in DG compensates the voltage drop in each distribution feeders. By these algorithms, the voltage unbalance between feeders and voltage limit violation will be reduced and the voltage profile in each feeder will become more flat.

  • This paper proposes a point of common coupling (PCC) voltage compensation algorithm using a current limitation strategy for use in distributed generation (DG). The proposed strategy maintains the PCC voltage by prioritizing currents when an output current reference is larger than the current capacity of the power condition system (PCS) of the DG. With this strategy, the DG outputs the active current, reactive current, and the negative sequence current. The DG uses the reactive current for maintaining the PCC voltage within a normal range; the negative sequence current is used for reducing the PCC voltage unbalance. The proposed method was verified using PSIM simulation and experimental results.

  • Personal sound amplifiers(PSAPs) provide accessible and affordable healthcare to individuals with hearing disability. Many studies are in progress for affordable PSAP development, but still people do not have a best fitting profile for the PSAP depending on their hearing test. As a result, they do not have a personalized and profiled music and sound, which are very helpful for those who has hearing problems. In this paper, we propose a device and mobile system to provide music with an equalizer value according to the hearing condition of an individual to prevent the hearing loss. In order to overcome the limit of frequency band of the equalizer in a smart phone, we developed bluetooth controlled equalizer based on the fitting profiles.

  • The purpose of this paper is to design a curtain control system for centralized management of large curtains, which includes curtain structure, electric curtain controller, communication system, user interface and remote control. Curtain structure is designed to avoid using limit switch. The system is based on microprocessor, determined the stop position and complete running time of electric curtain through time control, and achieved remote control of curtain opening and closing through wired and wireless communication modes. By establishment of a mathematical model to calculate the inertia compensation time of the electric curtain, the electric curtain can be stopped ahead of time, and the curtain can be completely closed by the inertia. The result of test experiment of 32 electric curtain controllers shows the communication success rate reached 100%.

  • In order to maintain customer voltage within allowable limit($220{\pm}13V$), tap operation of SVR(step voltage regulator) installed in primary feeder could be carried out according to the scheduled delay time(30 sec) of SVR. However, the compensation of BESS(battery energy storage system) is being required because the customer voltages during the delay time of SVR have a difficultly to maintain within allowable limit when PV system is interconnected with primary feeder. Therefore, this paper presents modeling of SVR to regulate voltage with the LDC(line drop compensation) method and modeling of BESS to control active and reactive power bi-directionally. And also, this paper proposes the coordination control modeling between BESS and SVR in order to overcome voltage problems in distribution system. From the simulation results based on the modeling with the PSCAD/EMTDC, it is confirmed that proposed modeling is practical tool for voltage regulation analysis in distribution system.

  • This paper studies on operating limit curve of low voltage electric machinery with respect to source voltage variation or sag. Also, it discusses electric machine and compensation equipment design methodology based on voltage quality effect assessment technology. Voltage quality standards, such as SEMI47, CBEMA, ITIC curve are regarded to examine the relation between time constants of load and sagging time of sag generator, the load(low voltage electric machinery) study. Voltage sag characteristics of loads, time constant and sag relation voltage-time operating limits are tested and verified.

  • Loop shaping $H_{\infty}$control with normalized coprime factorization was applied to a servo-motor driven high-speed powitioning system. The high-gain controller was designed to attenuate the postion errors caused byfriction effects and extermal disturbances. The non-existence of limit cycle was analyzed, though there is actuator saturation. The designed $H_{\infty}$control system was experimently tested in a rotary index table. Results showed its effectiveness to improve postion accuracy with out any compensation scheme for friction, and robustness to model perturbation and external disturbances.ces.
