A Low-loss Phase Shifter with Harmonics Suppression Using Compact Hybrid Coupler (소형 하이브리드 커플러를 이용한 고조파가 억압된 저손실 위상 변위기)

  • In this paper, a compact low-loss reflector-type phase shifter with harmonic suppression using meander T-shaped branch-line coupler is suggested. The compact coupler for the phase shifter has a size of $22.2{\times}14.9mm^2$ while a conventional branch coupler has a size of $32.6{\times}27.8mm^2$. The phase shifter shows insertion losses of 0.19-0.28 dB at the center frequency of 2.1 GHz, and a measured maximum phase shift of $137^{\circ}$.

Fabrication of Hydroxyapatite Ceramics to Mimic the Natural Bone Structure

  • The objective of our study was to produce an imitation bone material consisting of hydroxyapatite with a compact and spongy structure. This study shows the ideal content of $SiO_2$ and the sintering temperature to produce imitation bone that has the mechanical properties of natural bone. On the basis of our determination of the ideal conditions, a compact part was produced and its mechanical properties were tested. A compact part made of 0.5 wt% $SiO_2$ and sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ showed excellent mechanical properties. The bioactivity of the compact part under this condition was tested, and it was found to be bioactive. The porous part was produced by controlling the powder size, and the dual structure was manufactured by combining the compact and porous parts. A water permeability test confirmed that the dual structure had an interconnected pore structure. Therefore, this dual-body structure is feasible for use in the creation of implants.

  • Using a simple analytic model based on the MHD stability arguments we obtain the size of the magnetosphere for the magnetic compact stars. We assume the ordered, field-aligned flow in the magnetosphere and estimate the wellknown Alfven radius. The dependence of the X-ray absorption in the magnetic funnel on the size of this radius is further considered. We show that such a determination of the magnetic interaction radius can be applied to the reconstruction of X-ray light curves of the magnetic binary stars.

Design of mulimeter-wave ultra-compact broadband MMIC amplifiers (밀리미터파 초소형 광대역 MMIC 증폭기 설계에 관한 연구)

  • An ultra-compact milimeter-wave broadband MMIC amplifier was designed using a direct-coupled topology combined with optimum feedback design. Significant reductionin the chip size was possible by employing the direct-coupled topology. Bias resistors required for the direct-coupled topology were also used as feedback elements. Feedback was optimized for millimeter-wave frequencies using reactive elements. The fabricated MMIC amplifier was realized in a chip size of 0.8mm$^{[-992]}$ and showed gains higher than 8 dB from 12 to 44 GHz. An output power of 30mW was achieved at 44 GHz with a drain efficiency of 10%.

COMPACT GROUPS OF GALAXIES WITH COMPLETE SPECTROSCOPIC REDSHIFTS IN THE LOCAL UNIVERSE

  • Dynamical analysis of compact groups provides important tests of models of compact group formation and evolution. By compiling 2066 redshifts from FLWO/FAST, from the literature, and from SDSS DR12 in the fields of compact groups in , we construct the largest sample of compact groups with complete spectroscopic redshifts in the redshift range 0.01 < z < 0.22. This large redshift sample shows that the interloper fraction in the compact group candidates is ~ 42%. A secure sample of 332 compact groups includes 192 groups with four or more member galaxies and 140 groups with three members. The fraction of early-type galaxies in these compact groups is 62%, higher than for the original Hickson compact groups. The velocity dispersions of early-and late-type galaxies in compact groups change little with groupcentric radius; the radii sampled are less than 100 h−1 kpc, smaller than the radii typically sampled by members of massive clusters of galaxies. The physical properties of our sample compact groups include size, number density, velocity dispersion, and local environment; these properties slightly differ from those derived for the original Hickson compact groups and for the DPOSS II compact groups. Differences result from subtle differences in the way the group candidates were originally selected. The abundance of the compact groups changes little with redshift over the range covered by this sample. The approximate constancy of the abundance for this sample is a potential constraint on the evolution of compact groups on a few Gigayear timescale.

A Prediction of Change on the Body Style Proportion of the Future Passenger Cars (향후의 승용차 차체 스타일 비례의 변화 예측)

  • The body proportion of a passenger car has been changed by the demand of consumer and the market. Now the interior space proportion on a passenger car become to have the importance as the passenger space and this proportion has been changed as the new models have been developed. It didn't seems to had a unified direction or strategy in the dimensions of the domestic passenger cars on the early models, but they had a specific changes in dimensions on the later models. The proportion of the wheelbase and greenhouse can be calculated into as about 58% and 57% on the compact and sub-compact passenger cars while it is about 56% on mid-size sedan type passenger cars for thier 3-box structure body concept. The overrall proportion of the interior space is bigger on the compact and the sub-compact passenger cars than the mid-size passenger cars as the calculation shows. It can be concluded that the interior space proportion on the compact passenger cars would become larger, which is closed to 60%. And this trend would be appear on the mid-size passenger cars.

Considerable Size Reduction of Dipole Antenna with a Compact and Broadband Balun

  • A compact and broadband balun is designed using a conventional right-handed transmission line (RHTL) and a left-handed transmission line (LHTL) with lumped elements only. The proposed balun maintains a phase difference of $180^{\circ}{\pm}12^{\circ}$ at the output ports for the frequency range of 1.27 GHz-2.69 GHz. Nevertheless, the circuit size is merely $9.5mm{\times}12.7mm$. To verify the performance of the proposed balun, we attached it to a dipole-type antenna and observed that the return loss is greater than 10 dB for the frequency range between 1.86 GHz and GHz. The radiation pattern and peak gain are similar to those of the dipole antenna with a conventional balun.

Optimum Radial Build of a Low Aspect Ratio Tokamak Reactor

  • In a low aspect ratio (LAR) tokamak reactor with a superconducting toroidal field (TF) coil, the radial build of TF coil and the shield play a key role in determining the size of a reactor. For self-consistent determination of the reactor components and physics parameters, a system analysis code is coupled with one-dimensional radiation transport code. Conceptual design study of a compact superconducting LAR tokamak reactor with aspect ratio less than 2.5 was conducted and the optimum radial build was identified. It is shown that the use of an improved shielding material and high temperature superconducting magnets with high critical current density opens up the possibility of a fusion power plant with compact size and small re-circulating power simultaneously at low aspect ratio, and that by using an inboard neutron reflector instead of breeding blanket, tritium self-sufficiency is possible with outboard blanket only and thus compact sized reactor is viable.

A Compact Zeroth-Order Resonant Antenna on Vialess CPW Single Layer

  • In this letter, a novel zeroth-order resonant (ZOR) antenna on vialess co-planar waveguide (CPW) is proposed. It is based on a composite right/left-handed CPW transmission line. To achieve a compact size, this antenna utilizes the ZOR condition, and its reactive parameters determine the resonant frequency. Each unit cell is composed of a metallic top patch and meander lines. Since it is realized on the CPW single layer, the proposed antenna has the benefits of being a compact size and easy to fabricate. The bandwidth of 6.8% and efficiency of 62% are experimentally achieved. Its bandwidth is enhanced compared with other ZOR antennas.

Compact Size Wideband Microstrip Antenna Element for Repeater and Base Stations at 2 GHz

  • A compact size microstrip antenna element using FR-4 substrate is proposed for use in repeater and base stations. Two stacked patches are aperture-coupled by two split feedlines. Rectangular stubs on the split feedlines are laid under the aperture and have the effect of considerably lowing the magnitude of $S_{11}$ [dB] and broadening impedance bandwidth. The designed structure has been fabricated and measured. Based on 20 dB, the return loss bandwidth is about 16.8% (1.86 GHz~2.20 GHz), which covers the frequency range assigned for IMT-2000 with a large margin. The overall dimension of the proposed antenna structure is 37 mm$\times$41 mm$\times$19mm (very compact). The antenna gain is more than 7.5 dBi over the required frequency range.
