  • This study attempts to suggest a theoretical basic frame that is needed for nursing intervention regarding the sexual experiences of the mentally disabled. The data were collected through a series of interviews with 14 participants. With permission of the mentally disabled, the interviews were recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed using the framework of grounded theory mapped out by Strauss & Corbin(1998). The following 3 theories were confirmed on the basis of repetitive relations: becoming nest type, exercising self-restraint type, getting tangled type. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a realistic sex education that is relevant to hospital, community mental health center, and culture. The nurse is required to activily participate in educating the mentally disabled with a diverse approach to instill and nurture the sober perspective about sex such as the pleasure, life, intimacy based on sexual equality.

  • The human papilloma virus (HPV) is the main aetiological agent for cervical cancer, one of the most frequent cancers observed in women throughout the world. There are effective programs for reducing the incidence of cervical cancer with HPV vaccination. The objective of this study was to discuss the applicability of the HPV vaccination and the role of nurses in prevention of cervical cancer. Use of bivalent and quadrivalent vaccines has been initiated against the types of HPV which are the primary cause of cancer. The quadrivalent HPV vaccination has entered into the routine vaccination schedule in many European countries for use in children and adolescents between 9-15 years of age and for women between 16-26 years of age, whereas it has been proposed that the bivalent vaccination should be given to girls between 9-18 years of age. While cervical cancer is among the cancers that can be prevented, it is essential to continue screening tests while introducing vaccination in a systematic manner for protection. On this subject, among the most important roles of nurses is to implement the screening programs by fulfilling the caregiving, training and consultancy roles for the society and especially, for high risk groups and to increase the awareness of the people.

  • This is a comparative descriptive study conducted for 178 middle-aged women who were residing in Seoul and aged between 41 to 64 (95 in control group, and 83 in experimental group). The study was aimed to examine their climacteric symptoms, degree of fatigue, depression, anxiety and quality of sleep and to examine the differences on the symptoms between the two groups. Data were collected from April 1 to May 15, 2002 through self-statement using structured questionnaires. The collected data were verified with descriptive statistics, ? -test, t-test, ANOVA using SPSS/PC(+). The results are as follows. 1) The average scores of the climacteric symptoms were 1.56 .36 for the control group, and 1.55 .33 for the group taking relexzone massage, showing no significant difference between the groups (t=.15, p=.88). 2) The average scores of the degree of fatigue were 2.17 .65 for the control group, and 2.40 .66 for the group taking relexzone massage, showing a significant difference between the groups. (t=-2.31, p=.02) 3) The average scores of depression were 1.91 .50 for the control group, and 2.05 .42 for the group taking relexzone massage, showing a significant difference between the groups (t=-1.99, p=.05). 4) The average scores of anxiety were 1.54 .60 for the control group, and 1.57 .53 for the group taking relexzone massage, showing no significant difference between the groups (t=-.33, p=.74). 5) The average scores of quality of sleep were 2.97 .49 for the control group, and 2.98 .42 for the group taking relexzone massage, showing no significant difference between the groups(t=-.08, p=.93). Based on these results, the middle-aged women who take relexzone massage are considered to have less fatigue and depression than those who do not. As physiological regression progresses and the structure and role in the family are restructured, middle-aged women are like to experience various climacteric symptoms. As a nursing intervention, relexzone massage can be applied to middle-aged women to reduce their stress, climacteric symptoms and emotional anxiety, ultimately promoting their health. In order to implement relexzone massage as a nursing intervention, further testing on the psycho-neuroimmunologjcal effects of relexzone massage is necessary.

  • This study has developed the sex education contents including new natural family plan, concept and principle by receiving the opinions and advices from professionals and professors on sex education, by amending and supplementing existing teaching materials on sex, and examining the books related with sex education contents that reflect the request of teachers and students, and the lack of sex education teaching materials which have been the reason that needs of school sex education has been highly recognized but not vitalized. The developed sex education contents are 8 areas such as knowing my body right, caring my body, observing the ability of being pregnant, marriage, sexual intercourse, process of pregnancy, miscarriage, and sexual violence, 30 lower areas, and 105 detailed contents in their composition, and here are the results of analyses of the degree of request of nurse teachers and the students on them. The teachers showed highest request in the area of sexual violence(M =4.67), the next was my body care(M=4.44), knowing my body right(M =4.38), process of pregnancy(M=4.13), marriage(M=4.11) and sexual intercoursen (M=3.98), ways of judging the ability of being pregnant(M=3.88), and miscarriage(M=3.72) showed comparative higher request than normal. Not like the teachers, the students showed that they requested Marriage area as the highest need(M=3.04) and next was sexual violence(M=3.02), caring my body(M=3.00) to have been higher than normal. Process of pregnancy(M=2.99), Sexual intercourse(M=2.81), miscarriage(M = 2.77), observation of the ability of being pregnant(M=2.74), and knowing my body right(M=2.70) have been the requests lower than normal. This study showed that sexual violence, marriage, caring my body, were the items most requested by both the leacgers and students and in elementary school the development of sex education teaching materials on natural family plan suitable to the level of development of the children has been requested as it has had no inclusion of the concept of natural family plan, and the students in elementary school are concerned on indirect sexual contents related with physical health like regular exercise rather than direct sexual education contents including sexual intercourse. All these show that they are still so naive on sex. The sense of the teachers on sex has been connected with the level of achievement of sex education of the children as it has been the important cause of deciding the contents of sex education. Therefore the materials developed onesidedly by leaders without reflecting the needs or the preference of the students might be worries of bringing shameful. low quality and negative opinions on sex, and on the other hand the children might lose the concerns and interest on sex education, So the materials should be developed to have the contents of sex education coinciding with the request of the children.

  • Purpose: The study aimed to examine doctoral students' degree acquisition paths and postgraduate research achievements and explore whether there are differences in the research achievements of doctoral degree holders in relation to the dissertation format. Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort study of nursing doctoral graduates whose degree conferral dates were between August 2013 and August 2023 that compared two dissertation tracks: traditional and publication. We evaluated the proportion of graduates in each track, publication of their dissertations, time to graduation, and the number of peer-reviewed journal publications after graduation. Results: Of the sample, 160 (87.4%) graduated in the traditional track, with only 56 (35.0%) of them publishing their dissertations after graduation. Excluding dissertations, 114 of the graduates (71.3%) published first-authored articles in the traditional track, while 12 (52.2%) did so in the publication track. The time to graduation was significantly shorter in the traditional track, with an average of 5.47±2.45 years, compared to 6.61±2.57 years in the publication track (z=2.26, p=.023). In the traditional track, 64 of graduates (40.0%) majored in adult health nursing, whereas in the publication track, 8 (34.8%) studied community health nursing. Conclusion: This study emphasizes the significance of the publication track for nursing doctoral dissertations in terms of research dissemination. Despite its numerous advantages, it is not yet the preferred choice for both students and faculty. Maintaining the publication track as an additional graduation option is worthwhile, as it allows students to gain research publishing experience before graduation and to effectively disseminate scientific findings in nursing.

  • A descriptive correlation study was done to provide a basic data for comprehensive nursing care by analyzing the relationship between spiritual wellbeing, hope and perceived health status of the elderly. 195 respondents who lived at their homes and 148 respondents who lived at the facilities for elders such as nursing homes and elder's rehabilitation centers were selected and their age was over 60 years old. Paloutzian and Ellison(1982)'s spiritual wellbeing scale, Nowotny(1989)'s hope scale and Northern Illinois University's health self rating scale was used. From August 10th to August 25th, 1998, ready made questionnaires were handed out by researcher to those who can fill it out and for those who cannot fill out the questionnaires alone, the researcher read it and finished by interview. This study used Pearson's correlation coefficient for the hypothetic test and the average point and standard deviation of spiritual wellbeing, hope, and perceived health status were checked. To find out the difference between spiritual wellbeing, hope, and perceived health status by general characteristics ANOVA and Tukey test were used. The results are as follows : 1. The mean score for spiritual wellbeing of the elders was 42.27($SD{\pm}9.67$) in a possible range of 20-80. The average point of spiritual wellbeing was 2.11($SD{\pm}0.97$) point to 4 point full marks. The mean score of religious wellbeing was 21.37($SD{\pm}7.02$) and that of existential wellbeing was 20.90($SD{\pm}4.63$) in a possible range of 10 - 40. The average point of religious wellbeing was 2.14($SD{\pm}0.70$)points and existential wellbeing was 2.09($SD{\pm}0.46$) points to 4 point full marks. 2. The mean score for hope was 67.16($SD{\pm}12.28$) in a possible range of 29-116. The average point of hope was 2.31($SD{\pm}0.42$) points to 4 point full marks. 3. The mean score for perceived health status was 8.72($SD{\pm}2.49$) in a possible range of 4-14. 4. In testing the hypothesis concerning the relationship between spiritual wellbeing and hope, there was a statistically positive correlation(r=0.5209, p=0.0001). 5. In testing the hypothesis concerning the relationship between spiritual wellbeing and perceived health status, there was a statistically positive correlation(r=0.1427, p=0.0081). 6. In testing the hypothesis concerning the relationship between hope and perceived health status, there was a statistically positive correlation(r=0.2797, p=0.0001). 7. There were significant differences in spiritual wellbeing according to sex, religion, and present occupation. 8. There were significant differences in hope according to residential places, age, religion, educational level, family status, average monthly pocket money. 9. There were significant differences in perceived health status according to residential places, sex, age, educational level, present occupation and family status. From the above results it can be concluded that: There was a positive correlation between spiritual wellbeing and hope, spiritual wellbeing and perceived health status, hope and perceived health status.
