  • The purpose of this study is to investigate design elements to strengthen apartment communities in territoriality perspectives. To this end, the study first identified the functions of territoriality to communities, and examined precedent studies on community planning. Then, looking into actual apartment, the study analyzed design elements of the apartments by territoriality functions, and found significant community-building and community-strengthening elements. The results of case studies are as follows: Specific design elements are 1) both individual and shared places from the perspective of possession, 2) both physical boundaries including visible mark and physical demarcation, and emotional boundaries including space arrangement and visual expansion from the perspective of boundary-regulation, 3) both physical proximity, such as providing space for physical encounter and easy access, and emotional proximity such as homogeneity and intimacy from the perspective of proximity 4) design differentiation and adoption of the design concept to express the identity of the community from the perspective of proximity personalization.

  • Forming Community is important to manage and provide the service in Ubiquitous Environments including embedded tiny computers. Community Computing is that members constitute the community and cooperate. A mutual exclusion problem occurs when many processors try to use one resource and race condition happens. In the expanded concept, a group mutual exclusion problem is that processors in the same group can share the resource but processors in different groups cannot share. As mutual exclusion problems might be in community computing environments, we propose algorithm which improves the execution speed using RMS (resource management service). In this paper describes proposed algorithm and proves its performance by experiments, comparing proposed algorithm with previous method using quorum-based algorithm.

  • Recently, the concepts of community adaptation and ability to restore have been emphasized in order to evaluate disaster vulnerability and risk exposure level. In particular, the concept of disaster management that voluntarily takes measures prior to disaster situations has been introduced based on participatory disaster management that the community should take responsibility for one's own safety. This study diagnosed the community response capability on four model areas such as Goseong-gun and Gimhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do and Gimcheon-si and Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do and represented the Community Preparedness Indicator(CPI) for each region as a result.

  • Community search aims at finding a meaningful community that contains the query node and also maximizes (minimizes) a goodness metric. This problem has recently drawn intense research interest. However, most metric-based algorithms tend to include irrelevant subgraphs in the identified community. Apart from the user-defined metric algorithm, how can we search the natural community that the query node belongs to? In this paper, we propose a novel community search algorithm based on the concept of the k-hop and local distance dynamics model, which can naturally capture a community that contains the query node. The basic idea is to envision the nodes that k-hop away from the query node as an adaptive local dynamical system, where each node only interacts with its local topological structure. Relying on a proposed local distance dynamics model, the distances among nodes change over time, where the nodes sharing the same community with the query node tend to gradually move together, while other nodes stay far away from each other. Such interplay eventually leads to a steady distribution of distances, and a meaningful community is naturally found. Extensive experiments show that our community search algorithm has good performance relative to several state-of-the-art algorithms.

  • Objectives: As collaboration for community health promotion is much emphasized, the concept and process of community collaboration for health needs to be discussed. This paper discusses varying types of collaboration and collaboration building processes and suggests directions for enhancing community collaboration research and practice. Methods: Leading literature on community partnership building and community health development and current community partnership research program information were reviewed. Results: Although the term collaboration is used interchangeably with cooperation, partnership, network, or coalition, conceptual differences need to be acknowledged in order to develop and reinforce the processes of collaboration. Collaboration building goes in hand with community-based participatory research and systems thinking, which should be supported by long-term, systematic planning and evaluation research. Conclusion: Collaboration for community health promotion needs to be defined and agreed conceptually, thus collaboration process can be developed. Effective collaboration building will be facilitated by systematic thinking and participatory research. Research support system should appreciate the time-intensive, process-oriented nature of collaboration building by providing long-term research funding and emphasizing process and long-term evaluation.

  • Purposes: Rapid aging and increase of high chronic diseases of the elderly are increasing the needs for expanding elderly care beyond the concept of treatment in medical institutions. This study is to discuss the core values, functions, and roles of municipal hospitals and suggest a suitable community care model. Methodology: The survey was collected twice derived from the domestic expert groups. This study analyzed experts' responses using Delphi method and Analytic Hierarchy Process, using Microsoft Excel 2016. Findings: Among the core values of the municipal hospitals, it was shown that community linkage had the highest priority. The publicity had the highest priority among the functions and roles of the municipal hospitals. In the community care models presented in this study, the model focused on 'Community Care Integration Center' showed highest relevance, suitability and applicability. Practical Implications: This study suggested three different community care models and derived the most suitable model for community care, which is focused on the municipal hospitals. It suggested effective application of the community care model to promote community care in each community.

  • Objectives: This study explored the community food environmental factors affecting food purchasing using a qualitative research methodology for the elderly as well as the various food environments under their socioeconomic diversity. Methods: For the qualitative data collection, this study interviewed 20 elderly people aged 65 years or more, who participated in a public health program or lunch services operated by the senior welfare center in Seoul. Five dimensions, such as availability, physical accessibility, affordability, acceptability, and accommodation suggested in previous studies, were used to identify the community food environmental factors. Results: The elderly participants showed overall similarities to the concepts derived from existing studies on the five dimensions of food accessibility environment. In addition, other important food accessibility environmental factors that were not present in previous studies, such as acceptability for a product of domestic origin, delivery service to home, and small-packaged food sales, were derived. On the other hand, the concept of some subjects differed depending on the household income and specifically for the physical accessibility concept. This showed that the close distance factor from a grocery store at home might not apply to older adults in low-income households in Korea. Conclusions: This study found that five dimensions of the food environment suggested by previous studies could also be applied to vulnerable older adults in Korea. On the other hand, the socioeconomic characteristics of individuals and households would affect the perspectives of their local food environments differently. The findings of this study could help in the development of tools for evaluating the community food environment.

  • The overall objective of this study is to develop the engineering-friendly-methodology which can investigate the fate of antibiotic resistance in environment microbial community. For this purpose, effective concentration (EC) concept was adopted with cultural based method which is currently used in engineering practice. When a tetracyline antibiotic was present as selective pressure agent among microbial community, activated sludge, the $EC_{50}$ and/or $EC_{90}$ of tetracycline in microbial community were statistically increased compared to control, especially higher growth rate and organic loading conditions of SBRs. Therefore, these results strongly suggested that the continuous monitoring of EC in microbial community can be used for characterizing the fate of tetracycline resistance community in environmental samples.

  • Purpose: This study purposed to supply basic data for nursing intervention plan for middle-aged women healthcare and for finding solutions to nursing problems through understanding middle-aged women's depression, and to examine whether middle-aged women's depression is related with self-concept, self-efficacy, physical condition and social support. Method: The subjects were 200 middle-aged women aged between 35 and 60 and living in Daejon city and K city in Chungcheongnam-do, and the questionnaire survey was conducted from the 15th of August to the 18th of September in 2003 using a structured questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed through descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA. Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. Result: Middle- aged women's depression was found to be in a negative correlation at a statistically significant level with self-concept (r=-.679, p=0.000), self-efficacy(r=-.489, p= 0.000), physical condition(r=-.650, p=0.000) and social support(r=-.526, p=0.000). The most significant variables of middle-aged women's depression was self-concept(46.2%). Combining with physical condition(13.2%) and self-efficacy(0.9%), the three variables together explained 60.3% of middle-aged women's depression. Conclusion: The results show that middle-aged women's depression is closely related with self-concept, self-efficacy and physical condition. Thus this study suggests that the goal of nursing intervention for middle-aged women to overcome depression should be to help them to have positive self-concept, high self-efficacy and sound physical condition.
