The concept of community capacity is regarded as the ability of people and communities to do works associated with the determinant factors and indicators of the circumstances of socio-economic, environmental and physical contexts. Building capacity of communities to effectively analyze our problematic issues and planning of community development is often required to scrutinize current status of community of socio-economic and infrastructural capacity development with GIS. We consider community development as a planned effort to build assets that increase the capacity of communities. Spatial asset mapping is the process enabling to identify and make inventories of tangible and intangible assets. This mapping requires developing a capacity inventory that collects individual organizational and community capacities in view of human, socio-cultural, natural, financial, digital, and physical capacity. The purpose of this research is not only designed to suggest a new concept capacity building, but also proposes a more creative framework of asset-based community cap linking to parcel-based spatial asset mapping and capacity mapping process.
Two types in the species-importance, one type of carpinus laxiflora, carpinus tschonoskii, quercus serrata, quercus grosseserrata and pnus densiflora community and another type of abeies koreana community classified by zurich-montpellier method, were recognized based on the data from 81 sample plots. The forme species sequence-importance curves were coincidred with the ideal curve calculated by preston's lognormal-distribution theory(1948), with small variations among five communities, and the latter with that of motomura's niche pre-emption hypothesis(1932). It seems that plant community classified by phytosociological method based on the unit concept coincide with the vegetation type recognized by species population analyse based on the continuum concept and the dominance-diversity reflrcts on the difference in the coenocline among their plant communities.

About 20 years have passed since Systems Engineering(SE) was introduced in Korea. KCOSE(Korean Council On Systems Engineering) and KOSSE(The Korean Society of Systems Engineering) were established during that period and Korean SE community has increased quantitatively. But We can not answer "Yes!" for the questions "Did Korean SE community increase qualitatively? and How about SE education or training?" Many participants at SE lecture classes said that they were not able to understand SE concept. I analyzed current SE lecture materials and then proposed new model of SE concept lecture for SE novices. The new model consists of Vee diagram, life cycle model, PMTE paradigm, technical review, SE sample and definition of SE. I expect that the proposed model will contribute to upgrade a quality of domestic SE education.
The purpose of this study was to investigate children's conception of liquid conservation according to their ages and tasks in the boiling phenomenon The subjects were thirty 4-year-olds, thirty 6-year-olds, and thirty 8-year-olds recruited from two day-care center, one kindergarten, and one elementary school, in Seoul. Statistical methods used for data analysis were frequencies, percentiles, means, standard deviations and repeated measures ANOVA. As the result, there was a significant difference in children's conception of liquid conservation in the boiling of water according to their ages. 8-year-old children showed higher levels of cognition than 4 and 6-year-olds. There was no difference in children's conception of liquid conservation in the boiling of water according to tasks.

This research examined the psychological characteristics of children, such as children's attachment to their mothers, self-concept, daily stress, and depression, in both multicultural and typical Korean families. Elementary school children in 3rd to 6th grade were surveyed in Chunnam province. 158 cases of multicultural families and 181 cases of typical Korean families were analyzed by the methods of Cronbach's a coefficient and independent t-test using SPSS program. Children from multicultural families had less attachment to their mothers and self respect than those from typical Korean families. Regarding daily stress, children from multicultural families highly recognize the economic and physical environments, whereas children from typical Korean families highly recognize the academic achievements and the relationships with their teachers. Children from multicultural families were highly prone to depression compared to the children from typical Korean families.

This research investigates the development trend of the elementary school facilities in Japan. To achieve this purpose, it is investigated that policies and the necessary area and the plans of 14 priorities at the elementary schools which have been built since mid 1970's in Japan. And plan compositions are analyzed focused on the classroom & multipurpose space and the concept of the plan. In this study, the elementary schools are analyzed as the following three specific features: 1. the countermeasure for the variety of the teaching methods, 2. the concept of dwelling space, 3. the concept of community center. The citizen-initiative has been frequently mentioned in community building project which is being promoted by Seoul City. The citizen-initiative has become an important concept in the direction of community welfare efforts. However, this concept has not been defined clearly in social welfare. In this context, the purpose of this study is to find how the practitioners of the social welfare practice field recognize the concept of citizen-initiative. In this study, concept mapping method was used to generate 59 statements about the citizeninitiative in 10 social workers in Seoul. Multidimensional scaling analysis and hierarchical cluster analysis are used to do mapping and grouping the 59 statements. The results are as follows. A total of 6 categories were derived. The six categories are named "Inducement of Participation", "Practice", "Procedure", "Awareness and Interest extension", "Expression of Opinion", "Attitude and Emotion". "Practice" category was revealed as a core category in the concept of citizen-initiative. This study is meaningful as a first step to discuss "what is the citizen-initiative?" and to make consensus in social welfare academic area and practice field.
This paper discusses the merits of the community capacity and capacity building concepts, the strategies used for building community capacity and their implications for community health nursing. Community capacity is defined as the interaction of the human capital, organizational resources, and social capital existing within a given community that can be used to improve or maintain the health of the community. Community capacity building is one approach to promoting community health. This approach takes a comprehensive, dynamic, and multidimensional view of community needs and circumstances and places an emphasis on asset development, collaboration among community organizations, and community participation. The major strategies for community capacity building involve activities such as facilitating the development of an asset-based approach to community, developing leadership, establishing partnership, organization development, utilizing community resources, and developing public relations. The implications of community capacity for community health nursing are addressed in terms of the need for community health education and practicum, long-term commitment, partnerships, and a paradigm shift. The author suggests that the concept of community capacity building may be useful for improving the health of both the entire community and its individual residents.
Community involvement is to be the keystone of primary health care, Unfortunately, efforts to promote it failed in many countries. Author inquired into the reasons why such efforts fail, and the alternative strategies for effectively promoting it in Korean situation today. In doing so, the concept of community involvement is clarified as an amalgamation of two different concepts; one is that of the community development, and the other is that of approaches for overcoming the alienation of the people from the health care process. Stategies of community involvement in Korea so far followed the line of the community development, e.g. village health worker. It loses, however, the feasibility as Korea has experinced so cial and economic developpment. The strategies of the second line of thought is now more feasible; empowering the people by providing more information and enhancing comitment to health, improving acceptabilty of community involvemt on the part of the health professionals and the bureaucrats, and building the mechanism of community involvement into the health policy-making process.
