  • This study aims to identify causal variables by examining the mutual influences of community consciousness and life satisfaction. We used some data of KCYPS. A longitudinal study of 1952 adolescents selected as a sample was conducted using the Aautoregressive crossover delay model. The results of this study are as follows: First, it showed that life satisfaction is consistently affecting the later life satisfaction with the passage of time. Second, community consciousness showed that the previous community consciousness has a constant influence on the subsequent community consciousness as time passes. Third, the effect of previous life satisfaction on community consciousness was significant. Therefore, the cross-delay effect of life satisfaction on community awareness was stable with time. In other words, life satisfaction level was a causal variable that takes precedence over community consciousness, and the higher the life satisfaction of the previous time, the higher the level of community consciousness in the future. Fourth, the cross-delay effect of community consciousness on life satisfaction was not significant because community consciousness at previous time had no meaningful effect on life satisfaction at later time, so consciousness of community at previous time affects life satisfaction. This study provided some implications basing on this results.

  • Since the 1960s, Korean welfare regime has been characterized by developmental welfare regime, of which invisible welfare programs like relation-based welfare are one of core elements. Developmental welfare regime of Korea has been dismantled after 1990s by the internal and external pressures. Focusing on the declines of relation-based welfare, this study examines the dismantle of developmental welfare regime of Korea. Since the late-1990s, the roles of inter-family income transfer and public income transfer are significant changed in terms of each share of total household income and each contribution of poverty alleviation. In other words, the role of public welfare has been growing while that of relation-based welfare has been decreased in the last twenty years. For the sake of a successful welfare regime transition in Korea, redistributional function of public welfare is quite important, but the development of reciprocal social economy and open community are also needed. Because, at this time and in this place, traditional welfare state building strategy is not proper in many aspects. However, it is impossible to achieve the development of reciprocal open community by restoration of relation-based welfare which has been already declined. This study regards enlargement of social economy or third sector as a development of reciprocal open community, and insists that cooperatives are especially worthy of notice.

This type of housing is intended for use as rental housing on a long-term basis. At present, there are about 190,000 permanent rental housing units in Korea. For this, qualitative data were collected by using the in-depth interview with staffs of community welfare center and management office of five permanent rental housing complexes and two times of advisory committee meeting with housing and social welfare experts. To analyze the data gathered in this study, the constant comparative method of data analysis was used. Conflicts between the management office and social welfare center of permanent rental housing could be classified into two aspects; personal and operational. Main reasons for the conflicts between two institutions were identified such as attitude of management office staffs, lack of cooperation, current administrative system, lack of management resources such as space and operation cost, and so on. Based on the results, some implications including institutional support and social complementary cooperation were suggested for improvement of management and welfare service system for the residents of permanent rental housing.

  • The purpose of this study is to assess the residential satisfaction of no-charge welfare facility for the elderly, and to examine the effect of the integration with pay-training institute on residential satisfaction. The data were collected from staffs and fifty one residents of welfare facility by interview and questionnaire. The statistical analysis was conducted to identify the residential satisfaction. A half of the elderly were aged over seventy five years old, eighty four percents of them were female, and seventy seven percents of them were non-educated. Forty two percents of the elderly considered themselves to be unhealthy, but the ADL data reveals that they are relatively healthy. The most of residents are highly satisfied with whole welfare facility. But, the level of satisfaction on the bathroom, the storing space, the cooking table and the benches were relatively low. These dissatisfactions can be solved by the expanding of the storing space, setting up of a common washing room and electric cooking stove, and the increasing of the number of benches. Also, it was recommended for the elderly to set up the Ondol-style rest room with the western style rest room. The level of satisfaction on the attached training institute with no-charge welfare facility for the elderly were high. This has positive effect on residential satisfaction of the elderly. Therefore, the community integrated welfare facility can be the alternative plan for the enhancement of residential satisfaction and quality of elderly life.
