By the comparative analysis of middle school Home Economics curricula in the U.S, Sweden, japan, Taiwan, and Korea, this study attempts to understand the current Home Economics education and to access its trends for each country. Based on the findings of the analysis, this study also seeks to get the major implications of the analysis for the betterment of the Korean Home Economics Education. The main sources of information and data analyzed here are :1)curricula for 10 School Districts in Pennsylvania state as representives of the U.S ; 2)Home Economics curriculum for middle school in Sweden ; 3) Home Economics Teaching Guidelines in Japan ;4)Home Economics curriculum in Taiwan ; and 5) Home Economics curriculum in Korea. Content Analysis technique is applied in this study. The major elements of contents include :1)structure of the curriculum ;2)subject name ; 3)time allotment; 4)goals and objectives ; 5)subject areas and content composition ; 6) other related characteristics for the implemention of the curriculum Summarized results of the study outline as follows; 1)Home Economics is offered as independently required subject without sex discrimination in all five countries. 2)Time allotment for Home Economics in Sweden is double that in the other countries. 3)The common goals of Home Economics courses is practical learning experiences closely related to reality. 4) In terms of subjects areas, Food and Nutrition, Clothing & Textiles, Housing Human Development, and Child care are offered in three of four countries, which is also similar to those of Korea. In addition Consumer Education is also covered in the U.S., Sweden and Korea. 5)Curriculum can be utilized as instructional planning materials due to the clear specification of instructional method, materials, and evaluation method on the curriculum, especially in the U,S, and Taiwan.
The study aims to explore sequence of earth science content in elementary school science curriculum in Korea and the U.S.. The analysis is focused on a) general content structure of earth science part; b) concept relationship between grades in the specific field of 'geology'; c) longitudinal connection of concepts and content in 'geology.' The findings are as follows. First, earth science curriculum content in Korea is structured according to sub-scientific disciplines centering on not science concepts but topics or inquiry activities whereas the U.S. curricular content is organized through integrative earth science topics with basic concepts and sub-concepts. Second, it is a common feature that basic concepts are interrelated to sub-concepts in all grades in both countries. However, basic concepts are scattered all over the grades, presented in a linear pattern in Korea while those are provided together in 3rd grade and repeated with extended concepts in a spiral structure in the U.S.. Last, it is not clear how concepts and content are longitudinally connected between grades in Korean curriculum. On the contrary, concepts and content in the U.S. curriculum have a strong longitudinal connection between grades with conceptual hierarchy. Such results indicate that Korean elementary school science curriculum would limit students' comprehensive understanding of science concepts through grades. The study suggests Korean science content should strengthen interrelationship among concepts as well as longitudinal connection between grades, in order to achieve the ultimate goal of science education, 'scientific literacy'.
This study aimed at identifying the characteristics of current science curriculum in several countries in terms of its format, aims and objectives, contents and guidelines and discussed about therm. The curricula were collected from 9 countries- The United States of America(5 states), Canada(4 Provinces), England, West Germany, France, Australia, Newzealand, Japan and the republic of China. Each country had her own characteristics of science curriculum, but there also common characteristics among several countries. First, the format of science curricula in eastern countries were very different from those of western countries. The western countries had the curriculum format which included characteristics and needs of science education, philosophy and background, aims and objectives, contents, characteristics of learners, teaching and learning strategy, teaching materials, guide of experiments, evaluation methods, and other concrete informations while eastern countries had the curriculum format which included only objectives, contents and guidelines. I think that the format of science curriculum in western countries is more recommendable than that of eastern countries. Second, the aims and objectives of science curricula in eastern countries focused on scientific knowledges and concepts, while those of countries emphasized scientific methods and attitudes. Third, the contents of science curricula were very similar regardless of eastern countries or western countries. In other words, all the countries in this study emphasized life science and earth science at lower grade level and physical science at upper grade level. Especially the observation and concrete learning activities were suggested at lower grade level and logical reasoning was emphasized at upper grade level. I think that the integrated (topic-centered) science curriculum is more recommendable than our current non-integrated science curriculum in lower grade levels. Finally, the guidelines of science curriculum in eastern countries did not suggest specific information about teaching contents, experimental methods, teaching-learning activities, evaluation methods, teaching and learning meterals, while those of western countries provided more specific information which teachers could utilize very effectively.
This study focuses on the teaching of fraction related to curriculum, introducing time of fraction, the meaning of fractions in textbook, material of teaching of fraction concept, teaching model of introducing time of fraction concept, special cases of teaching fraction and common points of representation of fraction among Korea, New Zealand and Singapore. For this study, Korea's mathematics textbooks(3-1, 3-2, 4-1, 5-1, 6-1) and New National Curriculum Mathematics(3, 4, 5. 6. 7)of New Zealand and New Syllabus Primary Mathematics(2B, 3B, 4A, 4B, 5A, 6A)of Singapore were selected for comparison and analysis. As a results we will suggest a reference to the development of mathematical curriculum, teaching fraction and improving the quality of the textbook through a method of comparative analysis of Korea, New Zealand and Singapore.
The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the curricula of kindergarten and elementary school and to present a plan for connecting the two curricula. The curricula emphasized mathematical thinking and problem solving instead of fragmentary knowledge and adopted the streamed curriculum based on children’s ability and interest. And both of them consisted of number and operation, geometry, measurement, statistics, and put emphasis on activity such as real life experience, play, manipulation of concrete objects, and communication. However, there are some kinds of differences between them, because the kindergarten curriculum is not included in the common curriculum, from 1st grade to 10th grade. Thus, this study recommended several ideas based. Thus, this study recommended several ideas based on theories to connect the mathematics curricula of kindergarten and elementary school.
In the 2015 revised mathematics curriculum, the system of equations is first introduced in 'Variables and Expressions' of [Middle School Grades 1-3]. Then, It is constructed that after learning the linear function in 'Functions', the relationship between the graphs of two linear functions and the systems of linear equations are learned so that students could improve the geometric representation of the systems of equations. However, in of Elective-Centered Curriculum Common Courses, Instruction is limited to algebraic manipulation when teaching and learning systems of quadratic equations. This paper presented the teaching and learning method that can improve students' mathematical connection through various representations by providing geometric representations in parallel using GeoGebra, a mathematics learning software, with algebraic solutions in the teaching and learning situation of simultaneous quadratic equations.
The purpose of this study was to analyze majors trends and issues of e-Learning curriculum for human resource development in the corporate context. The e-Learning curriculum was chosen as the subject of research consists of 2,710 lectures that were given from 2007 to July 2009 for the recent three years by providing at Ministry of Labor and Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training.
