As the major developed countries of the world have realized the importance of common information and its utilization, they have begun to seek a plan that will facilitate manipulation of common information. Despite development of the National R&D activities and its quantitative increase in Korea, its practical use still remains at a lower level. Therefore, it is worthwhile to analyze practical use and economic contribution in order to achieve higher profits. There are two purposes of this study. The first purpose is to draw a conclusion by analyzing the practical uses of the National R&D Reports, and the second purpose is to evaluate economic contributions by the National R&D Reports. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, literature review, survey, focus group interview, and experts' consultation were conducted as a way to deepen research, simultaneously comprising the quantitative and qualitative methods.

Egg allergy has been shown to be the most common food allergy in children with atopic dermatitis. Allergic reactions to proteins derived from egg white (EW) are more common than those derived from egg yolk. Ovomucoid, ovalbumin, ovotransferrin, and lysozyme have been identified as major allergens in EW. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of EW on immune modulation in an induced allergy mouse model. A total of 50 five-week-old BALB/c male mice were treated with trimellitic anhydride (TMA) for three weeks to induce allergy-like symptoms. The TMA-treated mice were rested for one week and then divided into five groups and fed 0, 10, 50, and 100 mg/d EW for four weeks. All EW consumption groups showed no significant increase or decrease in the populations of white blood cells; however, a significant increase in B-lymphocyte activity was observed in the fourth week. Furthermore, EW consumption did not influence serum immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin E levels. Taken together, these data demonstrate that the consumption of EW by TMA-treated mice did not increase allergic parameters such as serum IgE level, but enhanced the lymphocyte activities against pathogens. Therefore, this study suggests that the consumption of EW promotes Th2 immune modulation, and EW could be an excellent candidate for maintaining health.

In Malaysia, colorectal cancer is the most common cancer in males and the third most common in females. Mortality due to colorectal cancer can be effectively reduced with early diagnosis. This study was designed to look into colorectal cancer screening participation and its barriers among average risk individuals in Malaysia. A cross sectional study was conducted from August 2009 till April 2010 involving average risk individuals from 44 primary care clinics in West Malaysia. Each individual was asked whether they have performed any of the colorectal cancer screening methods in the past five years. The barrier questions had three domains: patient factors, test factors and health care provider factors. Descriptive analysis was achieved using Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 12.0. A total of 1,905 average risk individuals responded making a response rate of 93.8%. Only 13 (0.7%) respondents had undergone any of the colorectal cancer screening methods in the past five years. The main patient and test factors for not participating were embarrassment (35.2%) and feeling uncomfortable (30.0%), respectively. There were 11.2% of respondents who never received any advice to do screening. The main reason for them to undergo screening was being advised by health care providers (84.6%). The study showed that participation in colorectal cancer screening in Malaysia is extremely low and multiple factors contribute to this situation. Given the importance of the disease, efforts should be made to increase colorectal cancer screening activities in Malaysia.

Purpose: Injury is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality for children. As an injury prevention measure, the differences in external causes of severe pediatric injuries based on ICECI were analyzed according to age groups. Methods: A retrospective study was performed for pediatric patients under 15 years of age, who had been admitted to the emergency department with severe injuries from January 1998 to December 2004. The external causes of injury were investigated according to the ICECI: intent, mechanisms, places of occurrence, objects/substances producing injury, and related activities. The patients were divided into four groups based on age: infant (<0 year), toddler (1~4 years), preschool age (5~8 years), and school age (9~15 years). Results: The injury mechanisms, the places of occurrence and the related objects/substances vary with the age groups. The most common subtype of traffic accidents was pedestrian injury in pre-school age group. Falls most frequently occurred in the toddler group. But falls from a height of less than l meter height (6 patients) occurred only in the infant group. The most common place of occurrence in the infant group was the home, and that of other groups was the road. The related objects/substances for falls, for example, household furnitures and playground equipment depended on the age group. Conclusion: The age-group specific characteristics of severe pediatric injury were analyzed successfully through the ICECI. Therefore, when establishing a plan for the prevention of pediatric injury, consideration must be given to the differences in the external causes of injuries according to age group.
The purpose of this study was to serve as a basis for the development of dental technology and for creating a condition that dental technicians could work with pride and right values, by examining what problems there were in their health care, what they thought about them, and how the problems could be solved, The findings of this study were as below: 1. The most serious and harmful element in dental technology workshop was a dust(57.5%) and a noise(33.3%). 2. Approximately 99.0% of the dental technicians investigated made a complain of air pollution caused by noise. Their opinion on a possible measure to remove noise air pollution was that the noise-generating machine should be replaced(64.1%) or that it should be isolated(28.8%). 3. 76.0% complained air pollution cause by dust deteriorates their working efficiency. As a way to eliminate it, they suggested a dust chamber(35.3%) or an air cleaner(27.5%) should be installde. 4. About 80% made a complain of gas air pollution. The most common related symptom was a headache(56.9%). They thought that gas-generating machine should be isolated(39.9%) or that an air purifier should be prepared(33.3%). 5. The largest impact of heat and light on their body was weakening their eyesight(56.9%). 47.1% got burn once though four times, and 34.3% did five times or more. The way to prevent them was to install an automatic casting machine(66.0%) or use protective glasses(28.1%). 6. Approximately 47.7% were considering a change of occupation, and the most common reason was heavy work(23.5%), followed by poor prospect(21.6%) and working environment(19.0%) in the order named. 7. 88.9% responded they were likely to have an occupational disease. Their idea about the proper frequency of regular health examination was once a year(53.6%), or once per every six months(41.8%). 8. The field they were most interested in was health care(39.2%), followed by academic research activities(31.4%). This fact indicated it's most urgently required to improve their working environment.
The purpose of this study was to determine the viewing trends in eco-childhood education. Analyte is analyzed, such as from 10 March 2008 and 2015 annual target of 97 pieces of thesis until March trends, research content, research methods. As a result, first, the ecological childhood education subjects infant destination, Teachers, took place in indoor and outdoor environments subject, parent targeted net was a study of the most frequent targets 5 years of single age, 4 years old, 3 years old, It was a three-order. Second, the research method consisted of the most experimental studies. Third, research topics include ecology toddler exploring related variables of education, ecological infant was the most common educational programs academic and theoretical basis for the direction sought, ecological Early Childhood Curriculum understanding and national levels of the education process, linking childcare courses, ecology teacher education the program was in order. Fourth, training in experiential learning is the most common forest garden gardening had appeared, walking activities, ecology, art, spirituality, work, raise animals and plants, environmental education in order.
Our earlier studies found a significant correlation between the activities of ranitidine N-oxidation catalyzed by hepatic flavin-containing monooxygenase (FMO) and the presence of mutations in exon 4 (E158K) and exon 7 (E308G) of the FMO3 gene in Korean volunteers. However, caffeine N-1 demethylation (which is also partially catalyzed by FMO) was not significantly correlated with these FMO3 mutations. In this study, we examined another common mutation (V257M) in exon 6 of FMO3 gene. The V257M variant, which is caused by a point mutation (G769A), was commonly observed (13.21% allele frequency) in our subjects (n=159). This point mutation causes a substitution of $Val^{257}$ to $Met^{257}$, with transformation of the secondary structure. The presence of this mutant allele correlated significantly with a reduction in caffeine N-1-demethylating activity, but was not correlated with the activity of N-oxidation of ranitidine. In a family study, the low FMO activity observed in a person heterozygous for a nonsense mutation in exon 4 (G148X) and heterozygous for missense mutation in exon 6 (V257M) of FMO3 was attributed to the mutations. Our results suggest that various point mutations in the coding regions of FMO3 may influence FMO3 activity according to the probe substrates of varying chemical structure that correlate with each mutation on the FMO3 gene.
Populations both in the US and worldwide are aging. It is projected that by the year 2030 the population of Americans over 65 will increase to 70 million, more than twice their number in 1998. About one-third of elderly over the age of 65 have debilitating chronic health conditions that greatly impede their activities. Age-associated chronic diseases are believed to be associated with free radicals and the imbalance in antioxidant and oxidative stress contributes to development of several chronic health conditions. Diet and nutrients can have great impact in the health status of elderly. Several factors may contributor to the inadequate consumption of nutrients in elderly, including an inability to chew food adequately, polypharmacy, living along and limited income. Low intake of energy and several micronutrients are common among the elderly. Although overt deficiency of nutrients among the elderly is not common. a recent study showed that while elderly consume more fat, the total energy intake is low among the elderly. Inadequate intake of antioxidant nutrients such as vitamin E in elderly may contribute to the development of chronic health problems. Intake of higher than normal RDA levels of vitamin E for long periods of time has been shown to reduce the risk of many degenerative diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases(CVD) and cancer, and improve immune response in elderly. High intake of other antioxidants is also associated with reduced risk chronic diseases. Dietary antioxidants are abundant in fruits and vegetables. However, due to variety of factors, the elderly may not be able to receive these and other micronutrients through diet. Therefore, supplemental intake of micronutrients in the form of multi vitamins/minerals and/or specific micronutrients is a more practical approach to the maintenance of health status in the elderly.

This study investigated the degree of inconvenience in existing ready-made clothes and clothing preferences through a survey of 197 wheelchair-bound males in order to provide preliminary data for the development of a suit that considers the physical characteristics and requirements of the disabled in wheelchairs for improved quality of living and positive interpersonal relations. Among the survey respondents, the 30s to 40s age group was the largest at 71.6%. The most common type of disability was myelopathy at 72.6%. Also 59.9% of respondents had a job and ongoing external and social activities. As for the duration of wheelchair use, 10-20 years was the longest at 40.6%. It was found from the survey that respondents felt inconvenienced with existing clothes and changing pants was most inconvenient. Most experienced having their clothes altered due to the difficulty in finding well-fitting ones; consequently, the length of pants was the most altered item because pants are based on the size of a standing man and there exists a discrepancy in length due to the atrophy of the legs of the disabled. They preferred one style in general for clothing preferences as well as common design and details as well. However, they preferred a style with a short front and long back due to a discomfort in jacket length. A short length was the most complained about pants item.
The purpose of this study is to provide statistical analysis based suggestions on effective methods to take advantage of social network service (SNS) for educational purposes based on investigations of undergraduate students with high utilization of SNS. To achieve this, we conducted an open questionnaire survey and qualitatively analyzed the data using NVivo 10 program. Additionally, to visualize the analysis by education subject of the SNS educational methods, we have divided the data into 3 categories of teacher, student and common area. As a result, our analysis showed that the exchange opinions and discussions, information sharing and learning of contents of questions and answers, surveys, intimacy formation, counseling etc. were of the common area. Furthermore, teacher area included the notice announcement, teaching materials sharing, real-time assessment (quiz), attendance check, assignment grading and feedback, etc. Finally the student area was of project activities (group/individual), prepare and review the shared data, video self learning, peer review and feedback of projects, lecture evaluation, etc.
