A Study on the Architectural Evaluation for the Commercial-Residential Complex - Focused on the Seoul Building Design Review - (주상복합건축물의 심의평가에 관한 연구 -서울시 건축(1)심의를 중심으로 -)

  • In this Study, it was investigated what the critical elements of the Architectural Review by the Seoul Building Design Committee were. The critical elements selected by the members of committee were systematically analyzed. They were based on the 169 cases reviewed by the Building Design Committee. The committee consists of Professors, famous architects, architectural experts and official members. Thus, the critical elements selected by the committee can be regarded as the important criteria for the forthcoming architectural reviewing process. The critical elements selected by 960 members of the committee were classified by the frequency. The results in this study showed that the critical elements were ordered as follows: (1)floor plan, (2)landscape gardening, (3)form, (4)open space, (5)structure, (6)plan for preventing disasters, (7)circulation for men and cars, (8)facilities, (9)parking, (10)revision of drawings and documents. These criteria of the architectural evaluation established by the Seoul Building Design Committee can be applied to the fundamental preparation of the architectural review.

Synthesis of Thermally Stable Organosilicate for Exfoliated Poly(ethylene terephthalate) Nanocomposite with Superior Tensile Properties

  • A poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/organosilicate nanocomposite, with enhanced mechanical properties, has been prepared using the melt intercalation method. For this purpose, a new organic modifier has been synthesized for the preparation of organosilicate, which is thermally stable and compatible with PET. The use of the new organosilicate yielded almost exfoliated PET nanocomposite; whereas, the PET nanocomposites prepared by use of commercial organoclays (Cloisite 15A and 30B) show only an intercalated morphology. Particularly, the use of the new organosilicate showed an enhanced tensile modulus, and without sacrifice of the tensile strength and elongation on breaking, while the use of commercial organoclays only exhibit a trade-off between those mechanical properties.

  • Aluminum sec-butoxide was synthesized from aluminum foil and alcohol. The characteristics of the alumina powder prepared from the synthesized alkoxide by the Yoldas method were studied. As a result of measuring the synthesized aluminum sec-butoxide by GC, the purity of the synthesized alkoxide was 98.7% on the basis of commercial alkoxide and the yield was 78.5%. A127-MASNMR analysis shows that powders dried at 9$0^{\circ}C$ and $\alpha$-Al2O3 have 6-cordinated structure and ${\gamma}$-Al2O3 has 4-coordinated structure. The characteristics of alumina powder prepared from the synthisized alkoxide showed the same characteristics with the alumina powder prepared from the commercial alkoxide.

Preparation and Characteristics of Leather-like Material from Shark Intestines

  • Every year fish skin, bone and intestines are discarded as processing waste material. The use of fish processing waste material is more economical and environmental-friendly. The leather-like material was produced using shark intestine. Physical charactistics such as tensile strength, elongation, tongue tearing strength, and bursting strength of the leather-like material were measured, and compared with those of a commercial leather product. The values of tensile strength, elongation, tongue tearing strength, and bursting strength of the leather-like material were $3.3kg/mm^2$, $53\%$, 13.0kg/mm and $18kg/cm^2$, respectively. Elongation $(l09\%)$ of the leather-like material coated with lacquer was higher than that of a commercial leather material, and the other factors were similar. The tensile strength and tongue tearing strength of the leather-like material was higher than those of shoes leather, but bursting strength was lower. These results suggested a potential value to use the leather-like material from shark intestines as a substitute for commercial leathers.

Effect of pH on Rheological Properties of Dysphagia-Oriented Thickened Water

  • Flow and dynamic rheological properties of thickened waters prepared with commercial food thickeners were investigated at different pH levels (3, 4, 5, 6, and 7). The commercial xanthan gum (XG)-based thickener (thickener A) and starch-based thickener (thickener B), which have been commonly used in a domestic hospital and nursing home for patients with swallowing difficulty (dysphagia) in Korea, were selected in this study. Thickened samples with both thickeners at different pH levels showed high shear-thinning flow behaviors (n=0.08~0.22). Thickened samples at pH 3 showed higher n values and lower consistency index (K) values when compared to those at other pH levels. The K values of thickener A increased with an increase in pH level, while the n values decreased, showing that the flow properties greatly depended on pH. There were no noticeable changes in the K values of thickener B between pH 4 and 7. At pH 3, the thickened water with thickener A showed a higher storage modulus (G') value, while that with thickener B showed a lower G'. These rheological parameters exhibited differences in rheological behaviors between XG-based and starch-based thickeners, indicating that the rheological properties of thickened waters appear to be greatly influenced by the acidic condition and the type of food thickener. Appropriately selecting a commercial food thickener seems to be greatly important for the preparation of thickened acidic fluids with desirable rheological properties for safe swallowing.

  • Super engineering plastic(SEP) are applied to high performance and high value industries due to their excellent mechanical properties and high continuous operating temperature. Among them, PES and PEI are amorphous SEPs, and have the advantages of high flexibility, mechanical properties, transparency, and thermal stability. In this study, polyethersulfone(PES) and polyetherimide(PEI) fibers were manufactured to produce flame retardant artificial hair. PES and PEI fibers prepared through a melt-spinning process at a high temperature of 360 to 420℃. They are compared with commercial artificial hair by thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA), linear density, tenacity, and limited oxygen index(LOI) analysis. PES and PEI fibers have similar linear density and tenacity to commercial artificial hair, while their thermal stability and flame retardant are excellent. In particular, flame retardant was analyzed through LOI value and PES was 35.1%, which is superior to commercial artificial hair PET/Br(28.2%) and PET/P(20.2%). Therefore, PES and PEI are suitable as artificial hair for flame retardant.

  • The anti-fungal activity of plant extractives was investigated and the lacquer extractives were selected. The lacquer extractives were coated on anti-fungal paper and confirmed its effect. Water repellency, tensile index and brightness of anti-fungal paper treated with natural extractives were similar to commercial pesticide-treated paper. The incidence of Fusicaladium leuieri MAGNUS of commercial pesticide-treated paper and anti-fungal paper treated with lacquer were similar but, the incidence of Botryosphaeria dothidea (Moug.) Ces & De Not and Gloeodes pomigena of those were increased 10-60 % than commercial pesticide-treated paper.

Preparation and in vivo Evaluation of a Sildenafil Lactate-loaded Solid Self-emulsifying Drug Delivery System

  • To develop a sildenafil lactate-loaded solid self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) with a fast onset of action and immediate action of erection, sildenafil lactate (0.3 g), which was prepared using a spray dryer, was dissolved in 4.7 g of the mixture of glyceryl monooleate/Transcutol/ Tween 20 (3/0.5/1, g). Its emulsion droplet size and pharmacokinetics in rabbits were evaluated compared with sildenafil citrate-loaded commercial tablet. The sildenafil lactateloaded SEDDS showed an emulsion droplet size of about 300 nm. In pharmacokinetics study, it gave significantly faster Tmax than did the commercial tablet. Thus, the sildenafil lactate-loaded SEDDS at the one-third drug dose compared to sildenafil citrate-loaded conventional tablet might induce a fast onset of action and immediate erection without enhanced bioavailability compared with the sildenafil citrate-loaded commercial tablet.

  • Two different types of polymer-modified mortars(PMM) were prepared with recycled PET and fly-ash. One is rigid PMM and the other is flexible PMM which are based on the composition of recycled PET. Their mechanical properties including friction coefficient measurement and damping characteristics such as sound absorption were investigated and compared with the commercial PMM such as epoxy PMM and PET PMM. The result from mechanical properties indicated that the rigid PMM could be competitive with the commercial PET PMM. The measurement of sound absorption coefficient showed that both rigid PMM and flexible PMM had much better damping capacity than commercial PMM. However, the friction coefficient of rigid PMM revealed that it would be suitable for the use as floor material.

Quality Characteristics of Yakju fermented with Paddy Rice (Byeo) Nuruk Yakju (벼누룩으로 제조한 약주의 품질 특성)

  • In this study, quality characteristics of yakju fermented with byeo-nuruk prepared using rice, wheat, and water were investigated. Five different mixture ratios were considered for byeo-nuruk preparation. A comparative analysis of commercial yakju and byeo-nuruk yakju was also performed. The results showed no significant differences in pH, total acidity, and total soluble solids of byeo-nuruk yakju immediately following fermentation. The byeo-nuruk yakju alcohol content increased with increasing wheat proportion. Lactic and succinic acid were the major organic acids of byeo-nuruk yakju, and the major volatile components were isoamyl alcohol and linalool. Yakju prepared using material D had the highest volatile component content and high preference evaluation scores for taste and overall acceptability. Compared to commercial yakju, byeo-nuruk yakju had less total acidity, soluble solids, and volatile acids, whereas its pH level and amino acid content were higher. No significant differences were observed between commercial yakju and byeo-nuruk yakju in terms of sensory evaluation.
