The cost accounting of electricity and heat produced from an energy system is important in evaluating the economical efficiency and deciding the reasonable sale price. The OECOPC method, suggested by the author, was applied to a 650 MW combined cycle cogeneration system having 4 operating modes, and each unit cost of electricity and heat products was calculated. In case that a fuel cost is ${\\}400/kg$ and there are no direct and indirect cost, they were calculated as follows; electricity cost of ${\\}23,700/GJ$ at gas-turbine mode, electricity cost of ${\\}15,890/GJ$ at combined cycle mode, electricity cost of ${\\}14,146/GJ$ and heat cost of ${\\}6,466/GJ$ at cogeneration mode, and electricity cost of ${\\}14,387/GJ$ and heat cost of ${\\}4,421/GJ$ at combined cycle cogeneration mode. Further, these unit costs are applied to account benefit on this system. Since the suggested OECOPC method can be applied to any energy system, it is expected to contribute to cost accounting of various energy systems.
The purpose of this study is to show the existence of optimal operation conditions for minimum fuel consumption of the gas turbine based combined cycle cogeneration power plant. Optimal operational condition means the optimal distribution of the power generated by each gas turbine and the heat generated by each HRSG. Total fuel consumption is calculated by the sum of the fuels for gas turbines and supplementary boiler. Fuel consumption is calculated by numerical methods of energy equations which contain the power generated from gas and steam turbines, the heat generated by HRSG and the heat extracted from high pressure steam turbine.
Recently, the power and refrigeration cogeneration based on Kalina cycle has attracted much attention for more efficient utilization of low-grade energy. This study presents a thermodynamic performance analysis of a cogeneration cycle of power and absorption refrigeration based on Kalina cycle. The cycle combines Kalina cycle (KCS-11) and absorption cycles by adding a condenser and an evaporator between turbine and absorber. The effects of ammonia mass fraction and separation pressure were investigated on the system performance of the system. Results showed that the energy utilization of the system could be greatly improved compared to the basic Kalina cycle.
The recently proposed Kalina based power and cooling cogeneration cycles (KPCCCs) have shown improvement in the energy utilization of the system compared to the basic Kalina cycle. This paper suggests a combined tri-cogeneration system for power, heating and cooling based on the Kalina cycle. And thermodynamic performances of the suggested system based on the first and second thermodynamic laws are parametrically investigated with respect to the ammonia mass fraction and the boiler pressure. Results showed that the thermodynamic performance of the system could be greatly improved compared to the former KPCCCs.
This study aimed to analyze organic Rankine cycle(ORC) which recovers discarded heat from a gas turbine based combined cycle cogeneration(CC-cogen) plant in terms of both performance and economics. The nominal electric power of the CC-cogen plant is around $120MW_e$, and heat for district heating is $153MW_{th}$. The major purpose of this study is to compare various options in selecting heat source of the ORC. Three heat sources were compared. Case 1 uses the exhaust gas from the HRSG, which is purely wasted to environment in normal plant operation without ORC. Case 2 also uses the exhaust gas from the HRSG. On the other hand, in this case, the DH economizer, which is located at the end of the HRSG, does not operate. Case 3 generates power using some of the district heating water which is supplied to consumers. The estimated ORC power generation ranges between 0.3 to 2.3% of the power generation capacity of the CC-cogen plant. Overall, Case 3 is evaluated to be better than other two options in terms of system design flexibility and power generation capacity.
Thermodynamic cycles using binary mixtures as working fluids offer a high potential for utilization of low-temperature heat sources. This paper presents a thermodynamic performance analysis of Goswami cycle which was recently suggested to produce power and cooling simultaneously and combines the Rankine cycle and absorption refrigeration cycle by using ammoniawater mixture as working fluid. Effects of the system parameters such as concentration of ammonia and turbine inlet pressure on the system are parametrically investigated. Results show that refrigeration capacity or thermal efficiency has an optimum value with respect to ammonia concentration as well as to turbine inlet pressure.
In this study a novel cogeneration system driven by low-temperature sources at a temperature level below $190^{\circ}C$ is investigated by first and second laws of thermodynamics. The system consists of Organic Rankine Cycle(ORC) and an additional heat generation as a parallel circuit. Seven working fluids of R143a, R22, R134a, R152a, $iC_4H_{10}$(isobutane), $C_4H_{10}$(butane), and R123a are considered in this work. Maximum mass flow rate of a working fluid relative to that of the source fluid and optimum turbine inlet pressure are considered to extract maximum power from the source. Results show that due to a combined heat and power generation, both the efficiencies by first and second laws can be significantly increased in comparison to a power generation, however, the second law efficiency is more resonable in the investigation of cogeneration systems. Results also show that the working fluid for the maximum system efficiency depends on the source temperature.
The cost accounting of products on energy system is important for evaluating the economical efficiency and deciding the reasonable sale price. In the present, the suggested OECOPC method was applied to a combined cycle cogeneration, and each unit cost of electricity and heat products was calculated. In addition, the previous thermoeconomic methods were applied and calculated to equal system. As a result of comparing various methods, the unit costs by OECOPC method were calculated in the middle value of those. This result tells that OECOPC methods are most moderate. The suggested OECOPC method can apply any energy system. Hence this method is expected to make contribution to cost accounting on energy System.
The Kalina cycle (KC) is considered as one of the most efficient systems for recovery of low grade heat. Recently, Kalina based power and cooling cogeneration cycles (KPCCCs) have been suggested and attracted much attention. This paper presents an energy and exergy analysis of a recently suggested KPCCC with flexible loads. The cycle consists of a KC (KCS-11) and an aqua-ammonia absorption refrigeration cycle. By adjusting the splitting ratios, the cycle can be operated with four modes of pure Kalina cycle, pure absorption cooling cycle, Kalina-cooling parallel cycle, and Kalina-cooling series cycle. The effects of system variables and the operating modes on the energetic and exergetic performances of the system are parametrically investigated. Results show that the system has great potential for efficient utilization of low-grade heat source by adjusting loads of power and cooling.
