  • Temperley-Lieb algebras had been generalized to web spaces for rank 2 simple Lie algebras which led us to link invariants for these Lie algebras as a generalization of Jones polynomial. Recently, Geer found a new generalization of Jones polynomial for some Lie superalgebras. In this paper, we study the quantum sl(1|1) representation theory using the web space and find a finite presentation of the representation category (for generic q) of the quantum sl(1|1).

  • Acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are used in various field of high-technology industries such as semiconductor, display, mobile, automobile, and so on. Because of they have high durabilities and can be easily introduced functional groups in their molecular structures. PSA perfomances has an effect on their applications in industry process operation, reliability of final products. In this study, PSA performances as a function of fim thickness which is one of the impact factors effects on PSA performances will be investigated using combinatorial methods. Acrylic PSAs are synthesized using 2-ethylhexyl acrylate and acrylic acid. Thickness-gradient of acrylic PSA sample is made by a micro applicator. We compare general coating method with thickness-gradient coating method and evaluate the reappearance of combinatorial methods compared with existing coating method. Thickness-gradient of acrylic PSA sample shows rough and broad data tendency.

  • It is known that $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu^{2+}(BAM)$ phosphors currently used have a serious thermal degradation problem. We screened $SrO-B_2O_3-P_2O_5$ system by a solution combinatorial chemistry technique in an attempt to search for a thermally stable blue phosphor for PDPs. A Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR) was also obtained using an artificial neural network trained by the result fiom the combinatorial screening. As a result, we proposed a promising composition range in the $SrO-B_2O_3-P_2O_5$ ternary library. These compositions crystallized into a single major phase, $Sr_6BP_5O_{20}:Eu^{2+}$. The structure of $Sr_6BP_5O_{20}:Eu^{2+}$ was clearly determined by ab initio calculation. The luminescent efficiency of $Sr_6BP_5O_{20}:Eu^{2+}$ was 2.8 times of BAM at Vacuum Ultra Violet (VUV) excitation. The thermal stability was also good but the CIE color chromaticity was slightly poor.

  • Epigenetic silencing is considered to be a major mechanism for loss of activity in tumor suppressors. Reversal of epigenetic silencing by using inhibitors of DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) or histone deacetylases (HDACs) such as 5-Aza-CdR and FK228 has shown to enhance cytotoxic activities of several anticancer agents. This study aims to assess the combinatorial effects of genesilencing reversal agents (5-Aza-CdR and FK228) and oxaliplatin in gastric cancer cells, i.e., Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-negative SNU-638 and EBV-positive SNU-719 cells. The doublet combinatorial treatment of 5-Aza-CdR and FK228 exhibited synergistic effects in both cell lines, and this was further corroborated by Zta expression induction in SNU-719 cells. Three drug combinations as 5-Aza-CdR/FK228 followed by oxaliplatin, however, resulted in antagonistic effects in both cell lines. Simultaneous treatment with FK228 and oxaliplatin induced synergistic and additive effects in SNU-638 and SNU-719 cells, respectively. Three drug combinations as 5-Aza-CdR prior to FK228/oxaliplatin, however, again resulted in antagonistic effects in both cell lines. This work demonstrated that efficacy of doublet synergistic combination using DNMT or HDACs inhibitors can be compromised by adding the third drug in pre- or post-treatment approach in gastric cancer cells. This implies that the development of clinical trial protocols for triplet combinations using gene-silencing reversal agents should be carefully evaluated in light of their potential antagonistic effects.

  • In this paper, we apply the evolutionary algorithm to the combinatorial optimization problem. Evolutionary algorithm useful for the optimization of the large space problem. This paper propose a method for the reuse of wastes of light water in atomic reactor system. These wastes contain several reusable elements, and they should be carefully selected and blended to satisfy requirements as an input material to the heavy water atomic reactor system. This problem belongs to an NP-hard like the 0/1 knapsack problem. Two evolutionary strategies are used as approximation algorithms in the highly constrained combinatorial optimization problem. One is the traditional strategy, using random operator with evaluation function, and the other is heuristic based search that uses the vector operator reducing between goal and current status. We also show the method which perform the feasible test and solution evaluation by using the vectored knowledge in problem domain. Finally, We compare the simulation results of using random operator and vector operator for such combinatorial optimization problems.

  • The dual-vector system-II (DVS-II), which allows efficient display of Fab antibodies on phage, has been reported previously, but its practical applicability in a phage-displayed antibody library has not been verified. To resolve this issue, we created two small combinatorial human Fab antibody libraries using the DVS-II, and isolation of target-specific antibodies was attempted. Biopanning of one antibody library, termed DVFAB-1L library, which has a $1.3{\times}10^7$ combinatorial antibody complexity, against fluorescein-BSA resulted in successful isolation of human Fab clones specific for the antigen despite the presence of only a single light chain in the library. By using the unique feature of the DVS-II, an antibody library of a larger size, named DVFAB-131L, which has a $1.5{\times}10^9$ combinatorial antibody complexity, was also generated in a rapid manner by combining $1.3{\times}10^7$ heavy chains and 131 light chains and more diverse anti-fluorescein-BSA Fab antibody clones were successfully obtained. Our results demonstrate that the DVS-II can be applied readily in creating phage-displayed antibody libraries with much less effort, and target-specific antibody clones can be isolated reliably via light chain promiscuity of antibody molecules.

  • A microfluidic reactor with computer-controlled programmable isocratic pumps and online detectors is employed as a combinatorial synthesis system to synthesize and analyze materials for fabricating CdSe quantum dots for various applications. Four reaction condition parameters, namely, the reaction temperature, reaction time, Cd/Se compositional ratio, and precursor concentration, are combined in synthesis condition sets, and the size of the synthesized CdSe quantum dots is determined for each condition. The average time corresponding to each reaction condition for obtaining the ultraviolet-visible absorbance and photoluminescence spectra is approximately 10 min. Using the data from the combinatorial synthesis system, the effects of the reaction conditions on the synthesized CdSe quantum dots are determined. Further, the data is used to determine the relationships between the reaction conditions and the CdSe particle size. This method should aid in determining and selecting the optimal conditions for synthesizing nanoparticles for diverse applications.

  • Local search has been used to solve various combinatorial optimization problems. One of the most important factors in local search is the method of generating a neighbor solution. In this paper, we propose neighbor generation strategies of local search for permutation-based combinatorial optimization, and compare the performance of each strategies targeting the traveling salesman problem. In this paper, we propose a total of 10 neighbor generation strategies. Basically, we propose 4 new strategies such as Rotation in addition to the 4 strategies such as Swap which have been widely used in the past. In addition, there are Combined1 and Combined2, which are made by combining basic neighbor generation strategies. The experiment was performed by applying the basic local search, but changing only the neighbor generation strategy. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the performance difference is large according to the neighbor generation strategy, and also confirmed that the performance of Combined2 is the best. In addition, it was confirmed that Combined2 shows better performance than the existing local search methods.
