  • In this paper we describe a motion tracking algorithm for 3D human animation using stereo vision system. This allows us to extract the motion data of the end effectors of human body by following the movement through segmentation process in HIS or RGB color model, and then blob analysis is used to detect robust shape. When two hands or two foots are crossed at any position and become disjointed, an adaptive algorithm is presented to recognize whether it is left or right one. And the real motion is the 3-D coordinate motion. A mono image data is a data of 2D coordinate. This data doesn't acquire distance from a camera. By stereo vision like human vision, we can acquire a data of 3D motion such as left, right motion from bottom and distance of objects from camera. This requests a depth value including x axis and y axis coordinate in mono image for transforming 3D coordinate. This depth value(z axis) is calculated by disparity of stereo vision by using only end-effectors of images. The position of the inner joints is calculated and 3D character can be visualized using inverse kinematics.

  • Ground digital image data obtained by using DSLR camera can be used to the ground photogrammetry and spatial modeling. Intensity of each pixel in digital video images is the most important parameter to generate digital image. Therefore, it is needed to estimate the parameters and spectral characteristics of digital cameras in order to take more definite intensity data. In this study, using the Sony DSC-F828 DSLR camera, seven digital images are obtained by the continuous shooting. (frame rate, 0.38 seconds). And then extract the value of the intensity from RGB band of each digital color photographs to confirm difference of intensity between frames. The purpose of this study is to confirm spectral characteristics and changes and to estimate correlation through the analysis of statistical in each pixel of R, G, B band.

  • In this study we developed a CCD camera image capture program for Mobile Mapping System. Especially, two high resolution color images could be captured and saved simultaneously through this program to apply digital photogrammetry. Program developed in this study could be used more effectively on the 3D positioning of road facilities, the state understanding of maintenance and etc. using Mobile Mapping System with GPS-IMU. Most programs currently developed and used are for the panchromatic images. But, newly developed program is for the high resolution color images. Therefore newly developed program could expand application field of Mobile Mapping System widely, and users. This research can improve the usability of 4S' products with stable and reliable.

  • Image projectors can turn any surface into a display. Integrating a surface projection with a user interface transforms it into an interactive display with many possible applications. Hand gesture interfaces are often used with projector-camera systems. Hand detection through color image processing is affected by the surrounding environment. The lack of illumination and color details greatly influences the detection process and drops the recognition success rate. In addition, there can be interference from the projection system itself due to image projection. In order to overcome these problems, a gesture interface based on depth images is proposed for projected surfaces. In this paper, a depth camera is used for hand recognition and for effectively extracting the area of the hand from the scene. A hand detection and finger tracking method based on depth images is proposed. Based on the proposed method, a touch interface for the projected surface is implemented and evaluated.

  • In this paper, we implement a real time speaker close-up system using lip motion information from input images having some people. After detecting a speaker from input moving pictures through one color CCD camera, the other camera closes up the speaker by using lip motion information. The implemented system detects a face and lip area of each person by means of a facial color and a morphological information, and then finds out a speaker by using lip area variation. A PTZ(Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera is used in order to close up the detected speaker and it is controlled by RS-232C serial port. Consequently, we can exactly detect a speaker in input moving pictures including more than three people.

  • The object segmentation algorithm from the background could be used for object recognition and tracking, and many applications. To segment objects, this paper proposes a method that refer to several initial frames with real-time processing at fixed camera. First we suggest the probability model to segment object and background and we enhance the performance of algorithm analyzing the color consistency and focus characteristic of camera for several initial frames. We compensate the segmentation result by using human skeleton characteristic among extracted objects. Last the proposed method has the applicability for various mobile application as we minimize computing complexity for real-time video processing.

  • This study was intended to examine feasibility of sizing and color grading of Fuji apple with black/white image processing system, to develop a device with which the whole surface of an apple could be captured by one camera, and to develop an algorithm for a high speed sorting. The results are summarized as follows : 1. The black/white image processing system used in this study showed a maximum error of 1.3% in area measurement with a reference figure while the focusing point of camera and location of the reference figure were changed within a certain range. 2. As the result of evaluating four automatic image segmentation algorithms with apple images, Histogram Clustering Method was the best in terms of computation time and accuracy. 3. The fast algorithm for analyzing size and coloration of apple was developed. 4. The whole surface of an apple could be captured in an image frame with two mirrors installed on the both sides of the sample. The total area of the image representing the whole surface showed a correlation of 0.995 with the weight of apple. 5. The gray level when a particular band pass filter was mounted on the camera showed high correlation with 'L' and 'a' values of Hunt color scale and could represent the coloration of apple.

  • An image reconstruction algorithm is proposed to estimate transmitted original images from images displayed on a video terminal. The proposed algorithm acquires images that are displayed on video terminal screens by using a camera. The transmitted images are then estimated with the acquired images. However, camera-acquired images exhibit geometric and color distortions caused by characteristics of the camera and display devices. We make use of a geometric distortion correction algorithm that exploits homography and color distortions using a weighted-linear model. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm yields promising estimation performance with respect to the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). PSNR values of the estimated images with respect to the corresponding original images range from 28-29 dB.

  • In this paper, we propose an AR (Augmented Reality) lip makeup using bare hands interactively using an RGB camera. Unlike previous interactive makeup studies, this interactive lip makeup system is based on an RGB camera. Also, the system controls the makeup area in pixels, not in polygon-units. For pixel-unit controlling, the system also proposed a 'Rendering Map' that can store the relative position of the touched hand relative to the lip landmarks. With the map, the part to be changed in color can be specified in the current frame. And the lip color of the corresponding area is adjusted, even if the movement of the face changes in the next frame. Through user experiments, we compare quantitatively and qualitatively our makeup method with the conventional polygon-unit method. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method enhances the quality of makeup with a little sacrifice of computational complexity. It is confirmed that natural makeup similar to the actual lip makeup is possible by dividing the lip area into more detailed areas. Furthermore, the method can be applied to make the face makeup of other areas more realistic.

  • In this paper, the algorithm was developed to recognize hand golve gesture and implemented a system to remotely control the robot. The system consists of a camera and a controller that controls robot motion by hand position gesture. The camera recognizes the specific color of the glove and outputs the recognized range and position by including the color area of the glove. We recognize the velocity vector of robot motion and control the robot by the output data of the position and the detected rectangle. Through the several experiments, it was confirmed that the robot motion control was successfully performed.
