The purpose of this study was to identify the priming effects of disaster-related news. Specifically, this study aimed to examine the priming effects about trauma words and neutral words according to the geographical and psychological distance from the disaster. The participants in this study were 75 college students who had not experienced the Daegu subway fire accident, and whom were not ruled out after completing the screening measure completing the screening measure the completion of questionnaires for screening. All participants conducted a lexical decision task after watching a news video about the Daegu subway fire accident. The design was a 2 (Geographical distance: close vs. distant) × 2 (Psychological distance: close vs. distant) × 2 (Priming type: trauma priming vs. neutral priming) mixed-design. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the group which was geographically closer to the disaster tended to revealed a largerbigger priming effect than the distant group-a trend toward significance. Second, within the psychologically closer to the disaster, group, for those who were geographically closer too, the priming effect was larger for those who were geographically closer geographically closer than for the geographically distant group. Third, the geographically closer group had a largerbigger neutral priming effect than the distant group. Fourth, the psychologically distant group had a largerbigger neutral priming effect than the close group. To sum up, this study identified that disaster news coverage may have an implicit effect on people, and this influence can change according to the geographical and psychological distance. Finally, this study discussed the limitations of the study and recommendations for further research.
The present study aimed to examine the mediation effect of identity development between perceived parental academic achievement pressure (PPAAP) and mental health. Specifically, we examined whether the relation between PPAAP and mental health is mediated by the positive or negative aspects of identity development. Participants were 110 Korean college students. They completed online self-report questionnaires that included PPAAP, identity development, personal well-being, and depression. We found that PPAAP was negatively related to personal well-being and positively related to depression. Moreover, the relation between PPAAP and mental health was mediated only by the negative aspects of identity development. In other words, PPAAP was related to the negative aspects of identity development, which, in turn, was negatively associated with mental health. This study contributes to the literature in that it proposed identity development as a mediator between PPAAP and mental health and found that the negative, not positive, aspects of identity development mediated the relation. We suggest that institutional interventions that help develop identity can be an effective way to mitigate the negative impacts of PPAAP on mental health of children living in the highly competitive Korean society. Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.
This study aimed at investigating the validity of WHR (or waist-to-hip ratio) and Golden ratio as standards of physical attractiveness. Each of 60 male and 60 female college students were divided into two groups of 30. Using the 3D game program, each person in one group drew a physically attractive figure of the opposite sex while the other group drew a physically attractive figure of the same sex. Then, WHR and Golden ratio of the figures were measured and compared with the ideal WHR (.7 for women and .9 for men) and Golden ratio 1.618. It was found that WHR and Golden ratio for the physically attractive figures were lower than the ideal standards regardless of the participant's gender. That is, the participants preferred to men and women having curvaceous body shapes with a narrow waist and a wide pelvis. In most cases, Golden ratios measured in many ways were not correspondent to the ideal ratio, 1.618. In regards to BR (or Body Ratio), the legs and waist of the physically attractive figures were shorter relative to the Golden ratio and this was more salient for physically attractive man figures. Regarding the facial ratio measured by FR(or facial ratio) and FR_VP(or facial ratio_vertical point), the faces of figures made by participants, regardless of their sex, were shorter and wider compared to the Golden ratio. Further, the participants preferred baby-faced woman and masculine man figures. Finally, implications of the findings, limitations the of the present study, and the suggestions for future research were discussed.
The purpose of this research was to identify the relationship between specific personality characteristics and maladaptive social behaviors in order to contribute to development of a pragmatic intervention for the prevention of sexual aggression. This was accomplished by examining the mediating effects of entitlement rage (K-PNI) or sociosexuality (K-MSAS) on sexual aggression, and moderating effects of cognitive emotion regulation strategies (K-CERQ) or state empathy (K-CMEM) on sexual aggression in narcissistic men. Data were obtained from male college students (n = 264) who completed self-report questionnaires, such as K-NPI and K-CMEM, and hierarchical regression analysis was applied to examine these relationships. Both entitlement rage and cognitive emotion regulation strategies were found to be unassociated with sexual aggression. Rather, sociosexuality was the mediating factor between narcissism and sexual aggression, Whereas state empathy was a moderating factor between narcissism and sexual aggression. These findings indicate a tendency for sociosexuality to increase sexual aggression in males. However, individuals with low state empathy are more likely to show sexual aggression than those with high state empathy, indicating that intervention for increased state empathy may be a more effective treatment than cognitive emotion regulation strategies.
This study estimated the causal relationship among leisure identity salience (LIS), leisure constraints negotiation (LCN), and intentions to participate in leisure activity (IPLA). For this, we estimated structural equation models controlled by leisure constraints, and we used data collected from 296 college students residing in Seoul and Kyoung-gi providence. The following was obtained. First, for both groups with high and low levels of leisure constraints, LIS positively caused LCN, and this became more evident for the group with high level of leisure constraint. Second, for the group with low level of leisure constraints, LIS positively and directly caused IPLA, whereas this causal relationship could not observed from the group with high level of leisure constraints. Nevertheless, it indirectly and positively caused IPLA though LCN for the same group. This implies that the mediative role of LCN became more important as the level of leisure constraints became more restrictive. Further, we separately showed that the role of LIS was important in the process of LCN.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of varied resistance training intensities and rest intervals between training sets on integral electromyography (iEMG), repetition rate, and total work. All subjects, 14 college students, were tested one repetition maximum (1RM). Then, all subjects were weekly tested with 9 practice procedures, composed of diverse intensities (60, 75, 90% of 1RM) and rest intervals (1, 3, 5 min). As results show, to maintain the same load and target repetition maximum for an untrained person, muscular power training (90% of 1RM), muscular hypertrophy training (75% of 1RM), and muscular endurance training (60% of 1RM) should be applied with 5 min or longer rest interval periods for 3 training sets. In addition, 2 training sets with 3 min rest intervals and a set with an 1 min rest interval were capable by the subjects. Thus, at least 3 min or longer rest intervals should be applied to maintain multiple training sets. In case for muscular endurance training, which requires shorter rest intervals, the intensity of exercise should be adjusted to 60% of 1RM or less. In conclusion, depending on diverse purposes of resistance training such as improving muscular power, muscular hypertrophy, or muscular endurance, appropriate exercise intensity and rest intervals should be applied.
Assuming that not all background music in advertising function as effective retrieval cues for the advertised messages, this study proposes that we should be able to distinguish the retrieval cue effect of music from the simple ad exposure effect. This study tries to identify which specific characteristics of music are related to the retrieval cue effect. Our experiment focuses on congruency and familiarity of music as key characteristics of music which affect the effectiveness of the music's role as a retrieval cue for the advertised messages. We used four groups of subjects to test the retrieval cue effect of the background music. Each group was exposed to one of the four different types of background music and was again sub-divided into an experimental and a control group (i.e., a total of eight independent sub-groups were included in the experiment.) The first two sub-groups were exposed to the experimental advertisement with the background music of high congruency and high familiarity. After the ad exposure, the background music was provided as a retrieval cue to only one of the two sub-groups. Comparison of the memory performance between the two sub-groups will reveal the net retrieval cue effect of the music of high congruency and high familiarity. Similarly, another two sub-groups watched the same ad but with the background music of high congruency and low familiarity. Also the same ad but with the music of low congruency/ high familiarity was shown to another two sub-groups and that of low congruency and low familiarity music was to another two. Among the two sub-groups with the same music, only one group had the music cue at the memory tasks. One hundred and seventy four undergraduate students at the college of one of authors in Asia participated in the study. Their ages ranged from 18 to 24 with a median of 20. The sample was composed of 51.7 percent male subjects. They were randomly assigned to each of the eight sub-group. The results show that the music highly congruent with the advertised message facilitates the message retrieval, while the low congruency music cue does not. It was also found that the low familiarity music cue improves memory performance only when the music is perceived as congruent with the advertised message. From a theoretical and practical perspective, this study provides boundary conditions for effective retrieval and suggests that the congruent music specifically created for the ad is a more effective retrieval cue than other types of music cues.
The purpose of this study is to verify whether it is possible for participants to discriminate between innocent and guilty suspects when they are exposed to criminal information utilizing an autobiographical implicit association test (aIAT). A total of 49 college students were randomly assigned to guilty group, innocent-aware group, or innocent-unaware group. Participants performed an aIAT to detect suspects after performing either mock crime or control task. It was verified that innocent suspect and guilty suspect exposed with crime information could be distinguished through D-score and reaction time, converted to symbolize strength of the association between guilty sentences, innocent sentences, and truth sentences. As a result of the analysis, guilty group showed significantly higher D-score than both innocent-aware group and innocent-unaware group. guilty group also showed faster response time in true-guilty condition than true-innocent condition. This shows that the association of true-guilty conditions is stronger than that of true-innocent conditions. On the other hand, the innocent-aware group showed a faster response time in the true-innocent condition than the true-guilty condition, and innocent-unaware group showed no significant difference between the two conditions. Through this, it was confirmed that innocent suspects exposed to criminal information can be discriminated according to the aIAT pattern, which has a faster reaction rate to the truth and innocence union than the guilty group. This study confirmed that suspects exposed to criminal information can be effectively discriminated using aIAT, and further suggests the usefulness and potential of aIAT in the field of lie detection.

Existing clothing recommendation systems remain at the level of showing appropriate photos when a user selects a type of clothing he or she likes after entering his or her own body size or body size. When a user purchases clothing using such recommendation systems, there are many cases in which it does not fit or does not fit the user's body size. In this study, to solve these problems of existing clothing recommendation systems, a system was implemented in which the user receives not only size but also skin tone and recommends clothing suitable for the user's body size as well as skin tone. In this system, clothing size information obtained through web crawling was periodically stored in a database for eight male tops to recommend clothing, and the entire pixel of the clothing image was analyzed to extract color text values. In order to confirm the performance of this system, a survey was conducted on 100 male college students, and the satisfaction level was 70%. Most of the reasons for not being satisfied are that the recommended clothing is limited, so it is judged that it is necessary to expand the target clothing in the future.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the current situation of EduTech, which is proposed as a way to build a flexible learning environment regardless of time and place according to the use of digital technology in mathematics subjects. The process of designing classes to use the EduTech platform, which is still in the development introduction stage, in public education is still difficult, and research to observe its effects and characteristics is also in its early stages. However, in the stage of preparing for future education, it is a meaningful process to grasp the current situation and point out the direction in preparation for the future in which EduTech will be actively applied to education. Accordingly, the current situation and utilization trends of EduTech at home and abroad were confirmed, and the functions and roles of EduTech platforms used in mathematics were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the EduTech platform was pursuing learners' self-directed learning by constructing its functions so that they could be useful for individual learning of learners in hierarchical mathematics education. In addition, we have confirmed that the platform is evolving to be useful for teachers' work reduction, suitable activities, and evaluations learning management. Therefore, it is necessary to implement instructional design and individual customized learning support measures for students that can efficiently utilize these platforms in the future.
