중위권 대학 신입생의 수학적 배경과 대학수학 성취도 사이의 관계 (A Study on the Relationship Between Mathematical Background and Accomplishment in the First College Mathematics at a Middle level Engineering School)

  • During the recent years at a middle level Engineering School located at the local areas in Korea, more than 20 percent of freshmen had failed at their first College Mathematics. In consequence, many of them had hard time to survive at their major curriculums. The purpose of this study is to look for the main reasons of their failure and suggest an alternation of the present curriculum. Using the responses to the questionnaires and placement test scores, we studied the characteristics of the students' Mathematical abilities and analyzed how they were related to their grades of the First College Mathematics at the end of the first semester. The mathematical ability of the students at the middle level Engineering School turned out to range from bottom to top even though most of them revealed their interests towards Mathematics. The students with low scores at the placement test were more likely to fail at their first College Mathematics. Thus we suggest that the school should open a new preparation course ahead of the First College Mathematics for those who achieve low scores at the placement test and also professors should write proper books and develop ways of teaching.

  • 최근 들어, 우리나라에서도 수학 교사의 전문성 신장을 위한 여러 가지 교사 재교육에 관한 관심이 점차 고조되고 구체적인 프로그램의 안이 모색되고 있다. 이에 따라 보다 근원적으로 전문성 있는 예비 교사 양성을 위한 효과적인 교원 양성 체제를 위한 연구 및 개선 방안이 모색되어야 할 것으로 사료된다. 이러한 취지하에, 본 연구에서는 30명의 중등 수학 교사들을 대상으로 설문 조사 방법을 이용하여 사범대학 수학교육과 재학 당시 어떠한 교육 내용이 다뤄졌는지, 또 그러한 교육 내용이 실제 현장에서의 수학 수업과 연관되어 활용되고 있는지 살펴보고자 한다. 그리고 향후 예비 교사 양성을 위하여 사범대학 수학교육과 교육과정에 어떠한 교육 내용이 필요한지를 살펴보고자 한다.

  • In Korea, many local university mathematics faculty knew that the institution faced serious student shortage problems and the restructuring and cut actions for such a mathematics major programs. In general, undergraduate mathematics education in korea is in the crisis. In general, lots of mathematics departments in korea was not prepared for such a severe risk. In this article, university mathematics education and research business are studied in the context of the size of korea-usa population, economy(such as GDP), SCI indices. Korea-usa university mathematics education profile data are presented to compare korea-usa university mathematics education business. Lots of precious data on mathematics education are being helped to prepare for the university mathematics education crisis.

TRIPLE SOLUTIONS FOR THREE-ORDER PERIODIC BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS WITH SIGN CHANGING NONLINEARITY

  • In this paper, we consider the periodic boundary value problem with sign changing nonlinearity $$u^{{\prime}{\prime}{\prime}}+{\rho}^3u=f(t,u),\;t{\in}[0,2{\pi}]$$, subject to the boundary value conditions: $$u^{(i)}(0)=u^{(i)}(2{\pi}),\;i=0,1,2$$, where ${\rho}{\in}(o,{\frac{1}{\sqrt{3}}})$ is a positive constant and f(t, u) is a continuous function. Using Leggett-Williams fixed point theorem, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of at least three positive solutions to the above boundary value problem. The interesting point is the nonlinear term f may change sign.

  • In this paper, we consider the oscillation of first order sublinear difference equation with positive neutral term $\Delta(\chi(n)+p(n)\chi(\tau(n)))+f(n,\chi(g1(n)),\cdots,\chi(gm(n)))=0$. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the solutions of this equation to be oscillatory.

  • The Odd-Even graceful labeling of a graph G with $q$ edges means that there is an injection $f:V (G)$ to $\{1,3,5,{\cdots},2q+1\}$ such that, when each edge $uv$ is assigned the label ${\mid}f(u)-f(v){\mid}$, the resulting edge labels are $\{2,4,6,{\cdots},2q\}$. A graph which admits an odd-even graceful labeling is called an odd-even graceful graph. In this paper, we prove that some well known graphs namely $P_n$, $P_n^+$, $K_{1,n}$, $K_{1,2,n}$, $K_{m,n}$, $B_{m,n}$ are Odd-Even graceful.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to solve the second kind Volterra integral equations by Clenshaw-Curtis spectral collocation method. First of all, we can transform the integral interval from [-1, x] to [-1, 1] through a simple linear transformation, and discretize the integral term in the equation by Clenshaw-Curtis quadrature formula to obtain the collocation equations. Then we provide a rigorous error analysis for the proposed method. At last, several numerical example are used to verify the results of theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, the Augmented graph Es(τ) of the inverse graph Gs(τ) of a cyclic group (τ,◦) was studied. The Augmented inverse graph was constructed by applying the method of Mycielski's construction. The dimension of Augmented inverse graph and different properties of the graph were investigated. Later the chromatic number of Augmented inverse graph was discussed and the relation between the maximum degree of the graph and the chromatic number was established. In the Mycielski's construction, the properties of the key node 'u' in Es (τ) were established based on cardinality of the cyclic group (τ,◦) and also proved that the Augmented inverse graph Es(τ) was a triangle free graph.

  • In real-life scenarios, we may have to deal with real numbers or numbers in intervals or a combination of both to solve multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problems. Also, we may come across a situation where we must combine this interval and actual number membership values into a single real number. The most significant factor in combining these membership values into a single value is by using aggregation operators or scoring algorithms. To overcome such a situation, we suggest the cubic hypersoft set (CHSS) concept as a workaround. Ultimately, this makes it simple for the decision-maker to obtain information without misconceptions. The primary aim of this study is to establish some operational laws for the cubic hypersoft set, present the fundamental properties of aggregation operators and propose an algorithm by using the technique of order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) technique based on correlation coefficients to analyze the stress-coping skills of workers.

  • The intention of this paper is to acquaint domination, total domination on bipolar intuitionistic fuzzy graphs. Subsequently for bipolar intuitionistic fuzzy graphs the domination number and the total domination number are defined. Consequently we proved necessary and sufficient condition for a d-set to be minimal d-set, bounds for domination number and equality conditions for domination number and order.
