  • Security of a power system refers to its robustness relative to a set of imminent disturbances (contingencies) during operation. The socially optimal solution for the actuall level of generation/consumption has been well-known spot pricing at shot-run marginal cost. The main disadvantage of this approach arises because serious contingencies occur quite infrequently. Thus by establishing contractual obligations for contingency offering before an actual operation time through decision feedback we can obtain socially optimal level of system security. Under probabilistic precontract pricing the operating point is established at equal incremental cost of the expected short-run and collapse cost of each participant. Rates for power generation/consumption and for an offer to use during a contingency, as well as information on the probability distribution of contingency need for each participant, are derived so that individual optimization will lead to the socially optimal solution in which system security is optimized and the aggregate benefit is maxmized.

  • This research aims to analyze of prestressed composite hollow-core slab and box type steel beam. The smeared crack model used in abaqus for the modeling of hollow core reinforced concrete, including cracking of the concrete, rebar and concrete interaction using the tension stiffening concept, and rebar yield. The structure modeled is a simply supported hollow core spancrete slab subjected spa-h beams and prestressed in one direction. The hollow core spancrete slab is subjected to four-point bending. The concrete-rebar interaction that occur as the concrete begins to crack are of major importance in determining the spancrete slab's response between its initial, deformation and its collapse. This smeared crack model used in analysis involved non-liner concrete analysis concept.

  • The atomic scale details of the melting of solid argon were monitored with the aid of molecular dynamics simulations. The potential energy distribution is substantially disturbed by an increase in the interatomic distance and the random of set distance from the lattice points, with increasing temperature. The potential energy barriers between the lattice points decrease in magnitude with the temperature. Eventually, at the melting point, these barriers can be overcome by atoms that are excited with the entropy gain acquired when the atoms obtain rotational freedom in their atomic motion, and the rotational freedom leads to the collapse of the crystal structure. Furthermore, it was found that the surface of crystals plays an important role in the melting process: the surface eliminates the barrier for the nucleation of the liquid phase and facilitates the melting process. Moreover, the atomic structure of the surface varies with increasing temperature, first via surface roughening and then, before the bulk melts, via surface melting.

  • $360^{\circ}$ bending of Ti-6Al-4V large-diameter seamless tube(62.37 mm $OD {\times} 4.40mm$ wall thickness) has been achieved at room temperature without heating. The bending process comprised two steps : the first step is $360^{\circ}$ bending by an uniquely designed rotary bender allowing spring back, which is subsequently eliminated by the second or finishing step which comprised repeated bending processes by powered three roll bender, In odor to prevent collapse of tube during bending, Cerro $Tru^{TM}$(Trade name of a non-ferrous low melting point alloy)has been employed as a filler metal. The resultant ovality(out of roundness) obtained was 1.28%, as compared with 6~8% without applying Cerro $Tru^{TM}$.

  • This paper deals with the numerical study on the displacement behavior of corner areas in an excavation site. Several corner areas always exist in the excavation site. The corner area has two free surfaces, which may become serious weak point from the viewpoint of structural stability. If the structural reinforcements are not applied adequately in corner areas, significant displacement of retaining wall could occur. What is worse, the collapse of retaining system rarely happens. In this paper, 3D numerical analyses were performed to investigate the effect of the arrangement of diagonal and normal strut. From the analysis results, it is found that the spacing between diagonal strut and normal strut should be less than 4m to avoid excessive displacement due to excavation.

  • Many developing countries has been voltage unstable and the inter- change capability in Korea is limited by voltage instability. In analyzing voltage stability, load model has been considered as constant power, but actual loads vary as voltage changes. In order to incorporating voltage-dependent load model. we need the low-side of P-V curve that can not be obtained by general load flow algorithm. This paper proposes a modified GCF algorithm to obtain a full low-side of P-V curve and a accurate voltage assessment index considering load model. 5-bus sample system and 19-bus real power system are applied to simulate the proposed GCF. Also. the effect of reactive power compensation is illustrated in same systems.

  • The best index should show the margins to the operating limit at the present operating point without much efforts. Such voltage collapse proximity index has been proposed in this study. Differently from the normal procedure in which every bus load is increased at the same propotion, bus load increase toward the direction of T/L loss increase has been applied in this study. Sample studies show the usefulness and the practical applicability in voltage stability analysis.

  • The corrosion of steel rebars has been the major cause of the reinforced concrete deterioration. It is FRP rebar that is developed to solve problem of such steel rebar. FRP rebar in concrete structures should be used as a substitute of steel rebars for that cases in which aggressive environment produce high steel corrosion, or lightweight is an important design factor, or transportation cost increase significantly with the weight of the materials. But FRP rebar have only linearly elastic behavior; whereas, steel rebar has linear elastic behavior up to the yield point followed by large plastic deformation and strain hardening. Thus, the current FRP rebars are not suitable concrete reinforcement where a large amount of plastic deformation prior to collapse in required. The main objective of this study was to develop new type of hybrid FRP rebar. The manufacture of the hybrid FRP rebar was achieved pultrusion, braiding and filament winding techniques. Tensile and interlaminar shear test results of hybrid FRP rebar can provide its excellent tensile strength-strain behavior and interlaminar stress-strain behavior.

  • This paper describes an extension or a pair or multiple load flow solutions and nose curve method developed for voltage stability analysis or AC power systems to AC/DC systems. In this approach the converters are regarded as voltage dependent loads. Assuming that the converters at the unstable (-mode) solution consume the same power equal to the power at the stable (+mode) solution, the unstable solutions or the nose curves arc determined. This method is very efficient since estimating voltage collapse point and voltage stability margin arc determined by a few iterations of multiple load flow solutions. Also the method has the advantages that since the structure or Jacobian matrix is same with that of AC load flow, modal analysis or voltage stability is readily applicable if desired.
