Under the concept of global economy, the enterprises are assigning design and production environments around the world in different areas. In shipbuilding companies, a serious problem of information exchange emerges as companies use traditional hardware and very distinct softwares appropriate to their field of expertise. To overcome the decreased productivity due to the interruption of information, the concept of simultaneous engineering and concurrent design becomes very significant. In this article, the concept of collaborative design based on internet environments is described. Especially, the core technologies to achieve collaborative design environments among shipbuilding companies, ship owners, ship classification societies, model basin, and consulting companies are adopted.
본 연구는 협동작업환경에서의 CAD(Computer Aided Design)/CASE(Computer Aided Software Engineering)와 같은 공학 디자인 프로세스를 인지학적으로 지원하기 위한 CSCW 시스템을 개발하는 데 그 목적이 있다.

In this paper, a robot automation methodology for chemical drum assembly in semiconductor industries are presented. Robot automation is essential to resolve safety issues in which operators are directly or indirectly exposed to chemicals or fumes in assembling dispense heads on chemical drums. However, the chemical drum assembling process involves complex and difficult tasks, such as mating male/female keycodes and fastening screws with large-diameter, which may be very difficult to be performed by a single-arm robot with a commercial rigid F/T sensor. In order to solve the problems, a method for assembling a chemical drum using dual-arm collaborative robot system, compliance F/T sensor, robot vision and gripper is presented.
Concurrent Engineering (CE) has presented new possibilities for successful product development by incorporating various product life-cycle functions from the earlier stage of design. In the product design, geometric representation is vital not only in its traditional role as a means of communicating design information but also in its role as a means of externalizing designer's thought process by visualizing the design product. During the last dozens of years, there has been extraordinary development of computer-aided tools intended to generate, present or communicate 3D models. However, there has not been comparable progress in the development of 3D-CAD systems intended to represent and manipulate a variety of product life-cycle information in a consistent manner. In the previous research, the authors proposed a novel concept called Minus Volume (MV) to incorporate various design information relevant to product life-cycle functions. This paper proposes the use of the MV concept for the collaborative design environment, where many team members are geographically distributed over the networked environment, including Internet, Intranet, WWW, etc. A prototype 3D-CAD system is implemented based on the MV concept and illustrated with the successful implementation of collaborative design example.
The introduction of recommender systems to existing online services is now practically inevitable, with the increasing number of items and users on online services. Popular recommender systems have successfully implemented satisfactory systems, which are usually based on collaborative filtering. However, collaborative filtering-based recommenders suffer from well-known problems, such as popularity bias, and the cold-start problem. In this paper, we propose an innovative collaborative-filtering based recommender system, which uses the concepts of Experts and Novices to create fine-grained recommendations that focus on being novel, while being kept relevant. Experts and Novices are defined using pre-made clusters of similar items, and the distribution of users' ratings among these clusters. Thus, in order to generate recommendations, the experts are found dynamically depending on the seed items of the novice. The proposed recommender system was built using the MovieLens 1 M dataset, and evaluated with novelty metrics. Results show that the proposed system outperforms matrix factorization methods according to discovery-based novelty metrics, and can be a solution to popularity bias and the cold-start problem, while still retaining collaborative filtering.
The web-based group collaborative systems are emerging as enterprise-wide information systems. Since data in group collaborative systems are apt to be shared among multiple concurrent users and modified simutaneously by them, the web-based group collaborative systems must support synchronous collaboration in order to provide users with synchronized and consistent views of shared data. This Paper proposes an active web server which can facilitate synchronous collaboration in web-based group collaborative systems. To accomplish such a goal, the active web server manages dependency relationships between shared data and web browsers referencing them and actively propagates changing details of the shared data to all web browsers referencing them. And, this paper examines usefullness and effectiveness of the active web server to apply it to the ball-bearing design example of concurrent engineering design systems. The prototype system of the active web server is developed on a commercial Object-oriented Database Management System (ODBMS) called OBJECTSTORE using the C++ programming language.
Group collaborative systems are recently emerging to support a group of users engaged in common tasks such as group decision making, engineering design, group scheduling, or collaborative writing. This paper provides an change management framework for the group collaborative system to facilitate managing dependency relationship between shared objects and dependent user views, and coordinating change and propagation activities between the two in distributed computing environments. Specifically, the framework adopts an object-oriented database paradigm and presents several object constructs capturing dependency management and change notification mechanisms. First, it introduces change management mechanisms with transient shared objects and secondly, it extends them into presistent object computing environment by integrating transaction management mechanisms and change notification mechanisms. A prototype change management framework is developed on a commercial object-oriented database management system.
The emergence of collaborative learning to the public is to tackle the user's privacy issue in centralized learning by bringing the AI models to the data source or client device for training Collaborative learning employs computing and storage resources on the client's device. Thus, it is privacy preserved by design. In harmony, blockchain is also prominent since it does not require an intermediary to process a transaction. However, these approaches are not yet fully ripe to be implemented in the real world, especially for the complex system (several challenges need to be addressed). In this work, we present the performance of collaborative learning and potential use case of blockchain. Further, we discuss privacy issues in the system.
As computer system and information/communication technology develop rapidly, nowadays CSCW(Computer Supported Collaborative Work) system appears, through which it is available to work on virtual space without any restriction of time and place. Most of Un systems depend on a special network and groupware. The systems of graphics and CAD are not so many because they are characterized by Hardware and application software. In this paper, we propose a web-based collaborative CAD system which can be jointly worked on Internet WWW being independent from any platforms. It can generate and handle objects easily using lava 3D, and it can transmit, print, and store them. The interactive work for designing objects can be also carried out through dialling with each other. This system is executed in the environment of Client/server. Clients connect to the server through lava applet on WWW. The server is implemented by lava application, and it consists of three components : connection manager which controls the contact to users, work manager which keeps viewing in concurrency and provides virtual work space sharing with others, and solid modeler which generates 3D object.
