  • The high plateaus in west China may provide suitable sites for astronomical observations with the institute's middle-range telescopes and possibly with larger telescopes. Under China-Japan collaborations for site survey in west China, we have been conducting searches for good sites and monitoring their characteristics over several years. As recent results of our site survey show, sites in west Tibet are revealed with a high possibility of good astronomical observations. Weather characteristics at Gar in Ali, Tibet, show its high clear-sky ratios, especially in winter, comparable to Mauna Kea, Hawaii. But it has some wind problem in winter, where stronger wind speeds, over 20m/sec, occur frequently even though the sky is clear. To find calmer sites, we have conducted numerical simulations for the Ali area using the Japan Meteorological Agency NonHydrostatic Model. We have found another site, named ZoZo Hill, near Gar. We will continue to monitor the Gar site to clarify weather characteristics over the whole year and hopefully start to negotiate for site monitoring at ZoZo Hill this year.

  • This study analyzed the characteristics of vegan fashion produced by H&M and ZARA with respect to materials, design, development, production, and marketing to create social value. The results of this study are significant because they can be used as a reference to develop a vegan fashion market. Regarding the research method, this study assessed the concept and status of veganism through a literature review and examined vegan fashion case studies by analyzing official websites and media content. The study's scope covers the period from 2005, when H&M was the first SPA brand to create a vegan product line, until 2019. The characteristics of Global SPA's vegan fashion were as follows. Regarding materials, alternative materials were developed and an expanded use of organic materials was implemented. Regarding design, development was achieved through design collaboration and upcycling. In terms of production, an animal welfare policy was adopted and a sustainable supply chain was established. Marketing employed a campaign aimed at encouraging increased consumer participation. The findings regarding the social value of H&M and Zara's vegan fashion were as follows. First, a cyclical economy was realized through circular recycling in the entire process of resource selection, production, and waste disposal. Second, because product consumption indicated the importance of ethical consumption and sustainable consumer participation, corporate financial activities were created based on shared values to accomplish the social outcome. Third, collaborations with luxury brands or vegan fashion designers built a collaborative ecosystem in which vegan fashions were released and consumer participation campaigns were implemented.

  • Purpose: In recent years, many attempts have been made to examine the effects of forest therapy on health and to develop related policies. This study aimed to explore the current status of health promotion programs using forests provided by public health centers and to identify program diffusion strategies employed within different communities. Methods: For this descriptive study, we analyzed the 5th regional public health care program plans and explored the perceptions of health care workers attached with the programs using open-ended questionnaires and a focus group interview. Results: This study confirmed the necessity for health promotion programs using forests, as well as administrative and educational demands for such programs. The target population of the programs ranged from individuals with specific diseases to healthy local residents. In addition, the programs covered a wide range of topics, including disease management and health promotion strategies. However, the number of well-structured regional specialized programs remained limited. Collaboration among local governments, schools, and public health centers was found to be ineffective. Conclusion: To further disseminate health promotion programs using forests, the central government will need to develop well-structured programs, provide funding and resources to support local governments, and focus on raising public awareness of the health benefits of forest therapy.

  • The usage of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in building projects has enabled improvement in project planning, implementation and collaboration process amongst various stakeholders within architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. However, variations exist in the current practices of BIM implementation and coordination process in the industry. These variations result in inconsistent degree of BIM use across the construction industry. This inconsistency gives rise to several managerial and technological challenges such as data interoperability issues and purposeful integration and exchange of information within the BIM components. In order to tackle the issue, it is essential to analyse the different BIM approaches employed by the industry practitioners. BIM guidelines serve as a critical link between the BIM model, and its subsequent execution. They therefore provide the best reflection of BIM application and processes. This research paper aims to address the variations existing in BIM practices across the construction industry. It includes an extensive study of 21 existing, publicly available BIM-based guidelines in order to establish an understanding of the present state of practice and deduce issues and concerns related to them. All guidelines analysed in this paper are first categorised based on authorship and the release date for efficient comparison. The points of similarity and difference between them are thereby realized and outlined. In addition, the transition of project implementation process from traditional methods to BIM technology is also explained. The existence of inconsistencies in the BIM guidelines reviewed in this paper reflects the need of a BIM 'Code Compliance Check'. The Code Compliance Check will serve as a regulatory project guideline that will further improve the potential of BIM by incorporating a consistent BIM modelling methodology for the entire construction industry.

  • Due to the usefulness of the collaborative filtering, it has been widely used in both the research and commercial field. However, there are still some challenges for it to be more efficient, especially the scalability problem, the sparsity problem and the cold start problem. In this paper. we address these problems and provide a novel distributed approach based on agents collaboration for the problems. We have tried to solve the scalability problem by making each agent save its users ratings and broadcast them to the users friends so that only friends ratings and his own ratings are kept in an agents local database. To reduce quality degradation of recommendation caused by the lack of rating data, we introduce a method using friends opinions instead of real rating data when they are not available. We also suggest a collaborative filtering algorithm based on user profile to provide new users with recommendation service. Experiments show that our suggested approach is helpful to the new user problem as well as is more scalable than traditional centralized CF filtering systems and alleviate the sparsity problem.

  • Current technology does not emphasize closer connection through group collaboration, but rather underlines the distances and separations that are visible in today's society. As the interpretation of our territory of life which is still based on the model of the 'physical' of industrial era is no more valid, a different 'sense of belonging' corresponds to this new notion of territory. The main idea is how to make the sense of community to connect actual space with one child from each place. Therefore, the subject of this thesis is to design the system making children from distance to be closer, developing 'learning community' connecting with two classes across the globe. The contents include its studying in respect to the development of a non-geographical 'learning community' based on co-evolution, and to the system design of conceptual models for the community. In conclusion, the physical interface design is suggested to let user develop accurate mental models of the system.

  • For many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), innovation activities to lead a market with technology development and a globalization strategy tend to be a haphazard process due to a lack of capabilities. Thus, this paper aims to explore success factors of the global leading SMEs in Korea that are not only the first mover through technology innovation but also outstanding in export. The analysis utilizes data from Korean Innovation Survey (KIS) and statistical analyses such as t-test and chi-square are performed to compare global leading SMEs and normal SMEs, concentrating on various factors such as information sources, collaboration and non-technology innovation activities. The results indicate that critical success factors involve information from outside companies (information from conferences and government institutes) and government supports through logistic regression analysis. This research suggests a strategic direction for policy makers to promote innovation and growth in SMEs.
