A Lossless Image Compression Algorithm using Adaptive DPCM (적응형 DPCM 부호화를 이용한 이미지 무손실 압축 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a lossless compression algorithm using adaptive DPCM(Differential Pulse Coded Modulation) for enhancing the compression ratio. To improve the compression efficiency, various DPCM modification algorithms have been proposed. Proposed algorithm presents 16 DPCM methods and adaptively selects the DPCM method for each block. The experimental results show that proposed DPCM algorithm has better performance on compression ratio than JPEG standard.

A Full Rate Quasi-orthogonal STF-OFDM with DAC-ZF Decoder over Wireless Fading Channels

  • In this letter, we propose a quasi-orthogonal space-time-frequency (QOSTF) block coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) that can achieve full symbol rate with four transmit antennas. Since the proposed QOSTF-OFDM cannot achieve full diversity, we use a diversity advantage collection with zero forcing (DAC-ZF) decoder to compensate the diversity loss at the receiving side. Due to modulation advantage and collected diversity advantage, the proposed scheme exhibits a better bit-error rate performance than other orthogonal schemes.

  • 무선 환경에서는 한정된 주파수 자원과 소비전력을 고려하여 시스템을 설계하여야 한다. 이와 같은 조건을 만족하는 모뎀기술이 Trellis Coded Modulation(TCM) 방식이다. TCM의 복호 알고리즘으로는 확률적인 최적의 경로추적 알고리즘인 Viterbi 복호 알고리즘을 적용한다. 본 논문에서는 오디오 데이타의 무선전송을 위한 무선모뎀시스템의 수신단에 필요한 Viterbi 디코더를 설계하였다. 설계된 Viterbi 디코더는 고음질의 2채널 무선 오디오 신호(705,6kbps) 처리를 목적으로 하였다. 수신된 데이터에 8-level soft decision을 적용하였다. ACS(Add Compare Select)부와 TB(Traceback) 메모리 블럭은 데이터의 고속처리를 위해 병렬로 설계하였고, traceback depth는 50으로 하였다, 시뮬레이션 결과 설계된 Viterbi 디코더는 1bit, 2bit 등 랜덤하게 발생하는 에러에 대해 정정 능력이 우수하였다.

  • H.263부호기에서 정지영상 부호화를 위한 부가 부호기법인 Annex I는 기존의 JPEG, MPEG-1, -2와는 달리 부호화하고자 하는 현재 블록의 DCT 계수를 기부호화된 블록의 DCT 계수들을 이용하여 예측부호화 (Differential Pulse Coded Modulation; DPCM)를 행하고, 이를 통한 부호화 이득의 향상을 얻고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이런 H.263 Annex I의 예측기법을 공간영역에서의 의미를 수학적으로 유도한다. 이를 통해서 H.263 Annex I의 예측기법의 비효율성을 지적하고, 영상신호의 특성에 맞게 예측방식을 수정한다. 제안된 DCT 계수 예측 방식과 기존의 H.263 Annex I 방식의 이론적인 예측성능을 평가하고, H.263 부호기에 적용하여 제안방식의 효율성을 검증한다.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the channel coding scheme of DVB and ISDB standard for high-speed satellite broadcasting. Also, this paper proposed optimal parameters of decoder with variable coding rate for implementation. According to the optimal parameters, the pragmatic TCM of rate 213, 5/6, 819 was modeled by VHDL. The results designed by VHDL can be verified.

A Fast Timing Recovery Algorithm for Turbo-coded System

  • We proposed a new type of timing recovery scheme to work with a system that uses BCJR (Bahl-Cocke-Jelinek-Raviv) decoding algorithm and BPSK modulation. The unknown timing offset is estimated by the modified Mueller and $M\ddot{u}ller$ estimator with the aid of the decoder. Timing offset can be acquired as soon as the symbols are received and be updated symbol by symbol. The simulation results for turbo codes whose decoder uses BCJR algorithm show a satisfactory performance even in case of severe timing jitter.

A Reduced Complexity Decoding Scheme for Trellis Coded Modulation

  • In this paper, we propose a technique used to simplify the trellis diagram, thus, reduce the complexity of Viterbi decoder in term of the number of Compare-Select (CS) operations needs in decoding process. It is shown that if the branch metrics are properly decomposed into orthogonal components. The trellis diagram can be modified that each original state with large number branches terminating to it can be broken into a number of sub-states having smaller number of branches terminating to them. Simulation results shown that the newly proposed technique can be used reduced the complexity of 8 and 16 PSK-TCMs without degrading the BER performance.

  • 구조 광을 이용한 3차원 정보 획득 방법으로는 레이저 스캐닝 기술과 다양한 패턴을 투영 기술, 그리고 컬러 패턴을 이용한 기술 등이 존재한다. 여러 장의 이진 패턴을 사용하는 경우, 여러 장의 패턴영상을 영속적으로 투영해야 하므로 움직이는 물체가 있는 경우 3차원 복원이 불가능한 단점을 지니고 있으며, 이를 보안하기 위해 그레이 혹은 컬러 패턴을 사용하여 패턴의 영상수를 줄일 수는 있으나, 이 경우엔 깊이 맵의 해상도의 한계와 컬러 오브젝트로 인한 에러 발생 문제가 발생 한다. 본 논문에서는 PWM(Pulse Width Modulation)방식을 이용하여 이진 패턴과 컬러 패턴의 문제점을 보완할 수 있게 단일 영상, 즉 "One-Shot"으로 스캐닝 하는 알고리즘을 제시한다.

  • Recent studies have been received much attention on underwater laser communication, which is capable of high data rate. However, in underwater laser communication, distortions caused by absorption and scattering induced performance degradation. A typical way to improve performance is to apply channel coding technique. In the beginning of studies, simple methods such as RS and BCH coding techniques were applied. However, due to distance expansion and performance improvement, channel coding methods with low error probability such as LDPC coded method were applied. In this paper, we analyzed the performance according to the size of the code word N, the distance between the transceivers and the size of the M of the M-ary PPM modulation scheme. Simulation results show that parameter M of M-ary PPM is most effect on performance.

A Study on PAR Improvement of OFDM system using SLM-PTS Combine Method and ETD-Turbo Code (SLM-PTS 결합기법 및 ETD-Turbo부호를 적용한 OFDM 시스템에서의 PAR 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we propose a high-speed adaptive PTS method which eliminates high PAR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) and we compare the proposed method with other conventional methods. In addition, we have designed a combined type SLM-PTS scheme to reduce PAR and evaluate the performance. The system used for evaluating PAR performance can be constructed as COFDM (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) applying ETD(Enhabced Time Diversity)-Turbo coding scheme. All the analyses in this paper are focused on the system characteristics according to IFFT's point and modulation method and the performance evaluation are based on the PAR reduction rates. As a result, the SLM-PTS combination method reveals good PAR reduction rate and remarkable reduction in the amount of calculations. Especially, in the case of combine-3 scheme, we can achieve approximately $3.7\~3.9$ dB PAR reduction on a basis of 10-5 BER level. Moreover, we can eliminate the side information in COFDM system because of its adaptive characteristics in evaluating PAR reduction rate, so that the additional errors can be omitted.
