Design and Fabrication of an End-Launched Rectangular Waveguide Adapter Fed by a Coaxial Loop

  • An end-launched adapter combining a coaxial loop within a rectangular waveguide has been analyzed and designed. The accurate electromagnetic modeling of input impedance for the adapter design has been developed using a modal analysis method. Also, design parameters to improve the end-launched adapter have been investigated. Numerical and experimental results of the proposed model have been compared with the results of previous works, and verified by an electromagnetic simulator of High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The input voltage standing wave ratios (VSWRs) are smaller than 2 over the wide frequency band from 7.5 GHz to 10.5 GHz.

  • In this paper, frequency synthesizer that can be used in IMT-2000 was designed and fabricated using dual loop PLL(Phase Locked Loop). For improving phase noise characteristic Voltage Controlled Oscillator was fabricated using coaxial resonator and eliminated frequency divider using SPD as phase detector and increased open loop gain. Fabricated frequency synthesizer had 1.82㎓ center frequency, 160MHz tuning range and -119.73㏈c/Hz low phase noise characteristic.

  • A modified expression of mutual coupling ratio for a vertical coaxial loop system over a layered earth is derived by transforming the Bessel function of order 0 to that of order 1. This expression allows us to use a single $J_1$ filter instead of a combination of $J_0$ and $J_1$ filters, and produces a significant reduction of computer time and core storage. In this paper, the mutual coupling ratio for a three-layered earth is obtained by means of Anderson's adaptive filter (Anderson, 1979).

  • In this paper, the loop coupling model for the analysis of end launcher rectangular waveguide adapter are proposed. The formula of input impedance from this model are presented. The influence of propagation mode and higher modes in rectangular waveguide are analyzed and design parameters of the end launcher adapter are investigated. The computational results between the proposed theoretical analysis and the previous papers are compared and are verified by HFSS. The end launcher rectangular waveguide adapter consists of the coupling geometry which is connected the inner conductor of $50{\Omega}$ coaxial line through into the 17.6mm feeding loop in a WR90 commercial waveguide, and the VSWR is maximum 2.0 over operating frequency from 7.5GHz to 10.6GHz.

  • The temperature of underground water generally remains constant regardless of the season. therefore, it is possible to get plenty of energy if we use characteristics of underground water for both cooling and heating. This study evaluates efficiency of real size coaxial and U-tube type complex geothermal system which is combined with underground water well. This study also evaluates relative efficiency/adaptability through comparison with existing geothermal systems(vertical closed loop system, open loop system(SCW)). The heat exchange capacity of complex geothermal system according to temperature difference between circulating water and underground water shows very high significance by increasing proportionally. The temperature change of underground water according to injection energy, shows very high linear growth aspect as injection thermal volume heightens. As a result of evaluation of heat exchange volume between complex geothermal system and comparative geothermal system, coaxial type has 26.1 times greater efficiency than comparative vertical closed type and 2.8 times greater efficiency than SCW type. U-tube type has 26.5 tims greater efficiency than comparative vertical closed type and 2.8 times greater than SCW type as well. This means complex geothermal system has extremely outstanding performance.

  • In 22.9[kV]-y distribution systems, underground cables are provided with 3-wire loop multiple-point ground in which each coaxial-neutral line of the distribution cable lines(A, B, C phases) is 3-wire common grounded at every connecting section. In the underground cable distribution systems, circulating current flows in the coaxial-neutral lines and its magnitude amounts to about $40{\sim}50[%]$ load currents, even though loads are balanced. This paper presents a new ground method to overcome such a problem and a comprehensive analysis in tows of current capacity of power cables, induced voltage of cable sheath, and electromagnetic interference voltage from power cable lines.

  • In this paper, a compact planar multi-loop self-resonant coil of high quality factor with a coaxial cross section is proposed for effective wireless charging. The proposed coil has high Q-factor and a resonant frequency of a coil can be easily controlled by adjusting distributed capacitance. For designing the coil, a self-inductance and a distributed capacitance are calculated theoretically. The self-inductance is calculated from the sum of the mutual energies between small circular loops that are made by dividing the cross section of the coil. To verify its properties and calculation results, the self-resonant coils are fabricated by using a coaxial cable with characteristic impedance of $50{\Omega}$. The measured frequencies are very consistent with the calculated ones. In addition, the resonant frequency can be adjusted slightly by the tuning parameter ${\gamma}$. The resonant coils are applied to a tablet PC, the Q-factors of the Tx and Rx resonant coils are 282 and 135, respectively. As a result of measurement when height between the two resonant coils is 4.4 cm, the power transfer efficiency is more than 80 % within a radius of 5 cm.

  • L자형 루프를 이용하여 주파수대역이 6-18 GHz인 동축-이중릿지도파관 변환기를 상용 소프트웨어인 HFSS를 이용하여 설계한 후 제작하였다. L자형 루프는 동축-구형도파관 변환기에 이미 이용되고 있는 구조로써, 이를 동축-이중릿지도파관 변환기에 적용한 것이다. 제작 후 측정결과 대역폭이 6-18 GHz로 3:1 이상을 만족하며, 최대 삽입손실이 -1.52 dB 이었다.

  • The high-speed data service is on the increase and on the development because of using the coaxial cable which hold the most part of subscriber's loop, the transmission rate in a subscriber line has influenced by an external-electromagnetic factor such as the falling of a thunderbolt and the electromagnetic induction on transmission line. this external environment gets the noise of a communications line and then has an influence to the transmission speed and quality for the high-speed data service. this paper makes an analysis of noise characteristic appeared a subscriber communications line, measures a transmission speed per each cable-distance and resolves these relationship by putting the noise, which has affected extensively the transmission quality of ADSL service, into a subscriber line.

  • A simulation on bootstrapping circuit has been performed by modelling a coaxial cable as a transmission line. It is shown that the bootstrapping circuit could be unstable due to the transmission line effect though an ideal amplifier is used. While the conventional bootstrapping circuit does not cancel the input capacitance of the input buffer, a new bootstrapping circuit that cancels input capacitance of the input buffer has been proposed. The proposed bootstrapping circuit consists of the input buffer of which gam is larger than 1 and a feedback resistor to control the loop gain. The proposed bootstrapping circuit has higher input impedance than that of the conventional circuit.
