Corrosion Resistance of Zn and Cu Coated Steel Pipes as a Substitute for Cu Pipe in an Air Conditioner System

  • We investigated the corrosion resistance of Zn and Cu coated steel pipes as a substitute for Cu pipe in an air-conditioner system. In addition, the galvanic corrosion tendency between two dissimilar metal parts was studied. The corrosion resistance of the Cu electroplated steel was similar to that of Cu, while the corrosion rate of the Zn electro- galvanized and the galvalume (Zn-55 % Al) coated steels was much higher and not suitable for Cu substitute in artificial sea water and acidic rain environments. Furthermore, the galvanic difference between Cu electroplated steel and Cu was so small that the Cu coated steel pipe can be used as a substitute for Cu pipe in an air-conditioner system.

Durability of Various Anti-Corrosive Organic Coatings in Marine Environment for Twelve Years

  • In order to clarify the durability of protective coatings for maritime steel structures, various anti-corrosive organic coated steel samples were exposed for twelve years in semitropical marine environment at Miyakojima Island, Okinawa, JAPAN. Samples were various organic coated steel pipes, 4.0 m in length and 150 mm in diameter. While the bare steel pipe entirely corroded in 4.5 mm thickness in four and half years, these organic coated steel pipes exhibited protective appearances after twelve-year-exposure except for the defect in the coatings. Polyethylene (PE) lining pipe exhibited a good protective performance. Urethane painted pipe was also good but some barnacles stuck to its surface. A combination of petrolatum tape and FRP cover showed sufficient corrosion resistance for steel surface. The correlation in results between exposure and laboratory acceleration test was examined. It was found that salt spray test (SST) results corresponded to rusted area of scratched portion and that adhesion change of coating layer corresponded to the rotating immersion test result. Among the on-site measured data, volume resistivity is utilized for the index of corrosion protection performance of organic coating.

PE 피복형 파형강관의 플랜지 이음부 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on Flange Coupling Design of Polyethylene Corrugated Steel Pipe)

  • The concrete pipe(Hume, PC) and polyethylene(PE) pipe are usually used for dram pipe in local market. Hume pipe, however, is heavy and needs the high cost of construction and PC pipe has a disadvantage to easily occur the deformation by the outside pressure even though it is light and constructible. The corrugated steel pipe coated with polyethylene is used increasedly because it is durable, constructible and economical. However, it is not used for sewage or waste water because it is hard to guarantee the watertight property on the coupling part. In this study, we studied on the flange coupling and the method of its construction to guarantee the watertight property and easy to use. If the developed flange coupling and method are used on a construction field, the economical property, constructible property and structural safety can be guaranteed.

터널 배수공의 재질에 따른 스케일 부착 특성에 관한 연구 (Bond Characteristics of Scale According to the Drainage Pipe's Material in Tunnel)

  • 지하수에 의하여 터널 내로 유입된 수산화칼슘($Ca(OH)_{2}$)이 이산화탄소($CO_{2}$)와 차량의 배기가스($SO_{3}$) 등과 반응하여 그 반응물이 터널의 배수공 내에 침전되어 배수공 클로깅 현상이 발생하였다. 대부분의 반응물은 화학분석 결과 칼사이트의 탄산칼슘 ($CaCO_{3}$)인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 일반적으로 터널의 배수공으로 사용되는 PVC관과 새로운 재질의 배수공인 테프론 코팅강관, 실리콘오일 코팅관, 아크릴관에 CaO 수용액과 터널 배수공 유출수를 흘려보내어 스케일 부착형태를 분석함으로써 배수공의 재질이 스케일 부착에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 그 결과 PVC관에서 가장 많은 양의 스케일이 생성되었고 아크릴관, 실리콘오일 코팅관, 테프론 코팅강관의 순으로 관 표면에 스케일이 적게 부착되었다. 그러나 장기적 시험결과 테프론 코팅강관의 경우 관표면이 터널 유출수에 포함되어 있는 토사로 인하여 손상되어 코팅재의 탈락, 강관의 부식 등이 발생하여 내구성에 문제가 있었다.

폴리에틸렌 코팅 가스배관의 광범위탐상을 위한 유도초음파 모드 선정 및 결함 검출 (Guided Wave Mode Selection and Flaw Detection for Long Range Inspection of Polyethylene Coated Steel Gas Pipes)

  • 폴리에틸렌 코팅 가스배관의 결함탐상을 위해 광범위 비파괴탐상기법인 유도초음파를 적용하였다. 가스배관의 내경은 190.7mm, 두께는 5.3mm, 그리고 바깥 표면은 $1.9{\pm}0.5mm$의 폴리에틸렌 층으로 코팅되어 있다. 폴리에틸렌 코팅 배관의 외면에 0.5MHz 탐촉자와 가변각 웨지를 사용하여, 비축대칭 유도초음파를 가진 시켰다. 주파수와 위상속도 조정을 통하여 가스배관의 결함 탐상을 위한 적절한 모드를 찾아내고, 모드의 특성을 단시간 퓨리어 변환을 이용하여 분석하였다. 결함탐상 결과를 두께 손실 및 원통형 관통결함에 대한 인위결함에 대해 나타내었다. 그리고 가스배관에 인위적으로 삽입한 두께 손실과 원통형 관통결함에 대한 검출 성능을 평가하였다.

PE 선피복 파형강관의 부식 및 마모 특성 (Corrosion and Abrasion Characteristics of PE Sheet Laminated Corrugated Steel Pipe)

  • Feasibility of using PE sheet laminated CSP(Corrugated steel pipe) to sewers were tested via corrosion and abrasion tests for PE sheet laminated CSP; 1) corrosion test for PE film and PE coated plate, 2) corrosion test for joint of PE sheet laminated CSP, 3) corrosion test for outside of PE sheet laminated CSP, and 4) abrasion test for inside of PE sheet laminated CSP. The results for the corrosion and abrasion tests are as follows. 1. Results for corrosion tests on PE films and zinc coated steel plates that were coated with PE films show that the surfaces of both PE were not changed compared to those of original PE samples. Furthermore, PE films maintained strong adhesion on the steel plates even though they were exposed to sewage and seawater provided cutting planes of the steel plates were treated with molding. But, results for corrosion tests on the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting planes of the steel plates were treated without molding show that steel plates have been corroded if they were exposed to sewage and seawater. 2. Results for corrosion tests on joints of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel using sewage show that gathering rust was observed at cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel after 180 days, but PE film was not flaked off. However, PE film at cutting plane was flaked off when PE sheet laminated corrugated steel was exposed to seawater. Furthermore, flaking process was severely progressed at lockseam points of which the surfaces were not smooth. 3. Results for laying PE sheet laminated corrugated steel under the ground show that the surface of untouched PE film was almost identical to that of original PE film. However, the spots that were previously cut off by a knife and a cutting plane of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel have flaked off. 4. As a result of abrasion tests conducted with PE sheet laminated corrugated steel and sand, brilliance and thickness of PE was not greatly changed under the severe abrasion conditions. Therefore, the durability of PE sheet laminated corrugated steel for abrasion was determined to be good.

Adsorption behaviour of film-forming amine on pre-oxidized carbon steel surface

  • The maintenance of condenser main pipe is the key to achieve film-forming amine maintenance effectiveness. In this work, oxygen content, pH and temperature of the solution were controlled to simulate the condition of condenser main pipe, and magnetite coated carbon steel sample was prepared by pre-oxidization. CAM was used to characterize the hydrophobicity of film formed samples. Hydrophobic film was formed on pre-oxidized carbon steel samples when octadecylamine concentration reaches 20 mg/kg. SEM, EDS, EIS, and PD were used to characterize the influence of octadecylamine concentration on maintenance effectiveness. It was found that the maintenance effectiveness was enhanced and the corrosion rate was suppressed with the increase of octadecylamine concentration. FIB and TEM were used to detect the adsorbed octadecylamine film thickness founding that octadecylamine adsorbed onto the surface of pre-oxidized carbon steel by multi-layer adsorption mechanism.

토양의 함수율에 빠른 상수도용 도복장 강관의 부식거동에 관한 연구 (Corrosion behavior of coated steel pipes for water works with water content of soil)

  • The corrosion rate of buried steel pipes for water works was investigated under soil environment. Steel pipe shows various characteristics caused by complicated environment condition of underground and especially the corrosion rate of it depends on the resistivity of soil controlled by content of water. In this paper, the corrosion behavior of steel pipe was observed by polarization test under soil and the silica sand in the water content range of 0-50%. Generally it is well known that the resistivity of soil decreased rapidly over 15% water content. In fact the corrosion rate, corrosion potential, and corrosion consumption (MPY) of steel pipe were shown very different aspects within 20% water content.

연료가스 배관용 탄소강관의 잔존강도에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Residual Strength of the Carbon Steel pipe using in Fuel Gas)

  • 국내에서는 연료 가스 배관용 탄소강관으로 KS D 3631의 기준을 따르도록 되어있으며, 탄소강관이 지하에 매설되는 경우 부식을 방지하기 위해 강관에 합성수지로 피복을 한다. 피복은 부식 방지 조치를 하는 것으로 압축된 연료가스를 이송하는데 필요한 강도는 원관인 탄소강관이 그 역할을 수행한다. 따라서 탄소강관에 결함이 발생하였을 때, 그 결함에 따른 강도를 평가하는 것이 중요한데 국내에는 잔존강도를 평가하기 위한 방법이 부족하다. 결국 국외 기준인 DNV RP F101 또는 ASME B31G의 기준에 따라 잔존강도를 평가하는데, 그 결과가 국내 배관에 적용 타당성이 있는지 검증이 부족하며, 85% 이상의 결함에 대해서는 예측 할 수 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 KS D 3631의 배관을 이용하여 인위적 결함을 가공하여 잔존강도를 평가하기 위한 실험을 수행하였다. 그 결과 폭에 따라서 일정한 잔존강도의 차이를 보이며, 국내 연료 가스용 배관에는 DNV RP F101이 적합하다는 결론을 도출하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 결함 깊이가 큰 경우에 대한 결과와 타당한 국의 기준을 파악하기 위한 결과를 포함하고 있어, 배관의 잔존강도를 이용한 위험성 평가 등에 유용하게 활용될 것으로 기대한다.

부식 생성물 분석법을 이용한 상수도 금속관의 부식거동에 관한 연구 (Study of Drinking water pipeline Corrosion Mechanism by using Scale Analysis)

  • Carbon cast iron and Zinc coated steel were the most widely used portable water of supply and distribution Pipeline system. The leaching of red water in portable water could produce sericus environmental sanitary problems. Due to the red water was the most alternative to inner scale of metal pipeline. So this study was conducted the impact of red water on scale products, and was evaluated by the corrosive metal contaminants of 20 fears over. Surface tests, metal surface composition measurements of samples XRF, XRD, and SEM(EDS), analysis were used to investigate the corrosion characteristies of carbon cast iron and Zinc coated steel. As the contaminants of Fe increased the red water of carbon castiron pipe increased due to the scale products amount of $Fe_2O_3$ (Hemite).
