The barium rich region of the Y-Ba-Cu-O-C system includes a tetragonal perovskite-like phase, which possesses a wide homogeneity region toward yttrium, copper and carbonate ion on the one hand, and toward oxygen, on the other hand. Accounting for vacancies ($\square$-vacancy) this phase could be described by the general formula per unit cell: {Ba$_8$}[Y$_{3-z}$Cu$_{5-x}$$(CO_3)_n$$\square$$_{x+x-n}$]O$_{y{\pm}{\delta}y}$ (*). Here, cube-octahedral sites are represented in braces, while quasioctahedral ones with proper octahedral (Y, Cul), square (Cu2) and triangular (CO$_3$) configuration are shown in square brackets. The formula (*) was confirmed by full-profile Rietveld refinement based on X-ray diffraction data of YBa$_{5}$Cu$_2$O$_y$ (1-5-2 phase). Homogeneity region limits of the phase (*) at 96$0^{\circ}C$ in air were determined to be -0.33$\leq$x$\leq$1.80, 0.33$\leq$z$\leq$2.00, 0$\leq$n$\leq$3.
For fabrication of $BaTiO_3$ system Ferroelectric thick films, (Ba,Sr,Ca)$TiO_3$ (BSCT) powders, prepared by using the alkoxide-based sol-gel method, were doped $MnCO_3$ as acceptor and $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ as donor. $MnCO_3$ and $Dy_{2}O_{3}$-doped (Ba,Sr,Ca)$TiO_3$ thick films were fabricated by screen printing techniques on high purity alumina substrates. The structure and dielectric properties were investigated with variation of $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ amount. As a result of the differential thermal analysis(DTA), exothermic peak was observed at around $670^{\circ}C$ due to the formation of the polycrystalline perovskite phase. All the BSCT thick films, sintered at $1420^{\circ}C$ for 2h, showed the typical XRD patterns of perovskite polycrystalline structure and no pyrochlore phase was observed. The average grain size and thickness of specimens no doped with $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ was 1.32mm, 52mm, respectively. The relative dielectric constant decreased and dielectric loss increased with increasing amount of $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ dopant, the values of the BSCT thick films no doped with $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ were 4043 and 0.4% at 1 kHz, respectively. The relative dielectric constant gradually decreased in the measured frequency range from 0.1 to 100 kHz
The electrochemical characteristics from various particle sizes of $Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{2-{\delta}}$ (CGO91) in composite cathode comprised of the samarium-strontium doped layered perovskite ($SmBa_{0.5}Sr_{0.5}Co_2O_{5+{\delta}}$) and CGO91 have been investigated for possible application as a cathode material for an intermediate temperature-operating solid oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC). The area specific resistances (ASRs) of composite cathodes with CGO91 having smaller particle size ($0.4\sim42{\mu}m$) and SBSCO of 1 : 1 ratio (50wt% SBSCO and 50 wt% CGO91, SBSCO: 50) give the lowest ASR of $0.10{\mu}cm^2$ at $600^{\circ}C$ and $0.013{\Omega}cm^2$ at $700^{\circ}C$. However, composite cathodes with having relatively bigger CGO91 particle size show the two times higher ASR results than those of SBSCO : 50. From the 10 times thermal cycles in SBSCO : 50, the ASRs of SBSCO : 50 increased from $0.0193{\Omega}cm^2$ to $0.094{\Omega}cm^2$ at $700^{\circ}C$, however, the ASR value was maintained after 7 times of thermal cycling.
The perovskites with nominal compositions $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{1-x}M_xO_3$ (M=Co, Mn, Ni, x=0.1-0.3) were fabricated by a solid-state reaction method as cathode materials of low-temperature operating Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs). X-ray diffraction analysis and microstructure observation for the sintered samples were performed. The ac complex impedance were measured in the temperature range $600-900^{\circ}C$ in air and fitted with a Solatron ZView program. The electrical conductivity and polarization resistance of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{1-x}M_xO_3$ (M=Co, Mn, Ni, x=0.1-0.3) were characterized systematically. The porosities of the sintered samples were in the range of 25% to 38%. The polarization resistance of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Fe_{0.7}M_{0.3}O_3$ was $0.291{\Omega}cm^2\;at\;700^{\circ}C$.
$LaGaO_3$ thin film was prepared on Ni-Fe metal porous substrate by Pulsed Laser Deposition method. By the thermal reduction, the dense $NiO-{Fe_3}{O_4}$ substrate is changed to a porous Ni-Fe metal substrate. The volumetric shrinkage and porosity of the substrate are controlled by the reduction temperature. It was found that a thermal expansion property of the Ni-Fe porous metal substrate is almost the same with that of $LaGaO_3$ based oxide. $LaGaO_3$ based electrolyte films are prepared by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method. The film composition is sensitively affected by the deposition temperature. The obtained film is amorphous state after deposition. After post annealing at 1073K in air, the single phase of $LaGaO_3$ perovskite was obtained. Since the thermal expansion coefficient of the film is almost the same with that of LSGM film, the obtained metal support LSGM film cell shows the high tolerance against a thermal shock and after 6 min startup from room temperature, the cell shows the almost theoretical open circuit potential.
$LaBO_3$ (B = Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, and Ni) perovskites, the most common perovskite-type mixed ionic-electronic conductors (MIECs), are promising candidates for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cell (IT-SOFC) cathodes. The catalytic activity on MIEC-based cathodes is closely related to the bulk ionic conductivity. Doping B-site cations with other metals may be one way to enhance the ionic conductivity, which would also be sensitively influenced by the chemical composition of the dopants. Here, using density functional theory (DFT) calculations, we quantitatively assess the activation energies of bulk oxide ion diffusion in $LaBO_3$ perovskites with a wide range of combinations of B-site cations by calculating the oxygen vacancy formation and migration energies. Our results show that bulk oxide ion diffusion dominantly depends on oxygen vacancy formation energy rather than on the migration energy. As a result, we suggest that the late transition metal-based perovskites have relatively low oxygen vacancy formation energies, and thereby exhibit low activation energy barriers. Our results will provide useful insight into the design of new cathode materials with better performance.
Barium cerate ($BaCeO_3$) related perovskite ceramics currently dominate the high-temperature proton conductor field. Unfortunately, these materials have very stringent environmental limitations necessitating the costly and complex conditioning or cleaning of the application feed-gas. Commercial realization has been hampered, in part, because of the reactivity of $BaCeO_3$ with $CO_2$, and to some extent $H_2O$. And sintered $BaCeO_3$ decomposed at a rate comparable to the powder samples. In this article, the chemical stability and the structural changes of $BaCe_{0.9-X}Y0.1La_XO_{3-\delta}$ (X=0, 0.1, 0.2) have been systematically investigated in the atmosphere containing carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) and water vapor ($H_2O$). The sintering characteristics were studied in $1600^{\circ}C$, sintered pellets disintegrate and decompose upon contacting boiling water on the surface only.
It is known that small amount of MgO in excess is often added to develop pure perovskite single phase of PMN-based composite, however, extra MgO precipitates in grains and inhibits densification of PMN. In this study PMN-PT-BT (PBT) powder was prepared by a conventional mixed oxide method using $(MgCO_3)_4{\cdot}Mg(OH)_2{\cdot}5H_{2}O$ instead of MgO. The precursor was heated at $500^{\circ}C/1h$ and its surface was modified with MgO sol. This effect was investigated in the aspects of sintering and dielectric properties. Small amount of added MgO sol ($0.5{\sim}1.0wt\%$) enhanced sintering substantially below $1000^{\circ}C$. The PBT with $0.5wt\%$ MgO sol sintered at $900^{\circ}C/2h$ had density of $7.62\;g/cm^3$, room temperature dielectric constant of 14800, loss of dielectric constant of $1.1\%$, which were comparable to those of the PBT sintered at $1000^{\circ}C/2h$. It was noticeable that the extra MgO precipitated mostly on triple points and grain boundaries and resulted in inhibition of grain growth.
Newly structured metal-supported solid oxide fuel cell was fabricated and characterized by impedance analysis and galvanodynamic experiment. Using a cermet adhesive, thin ceramic layer composed of anode(Ni/YSZ) and electrolyte(YSZ) was joined with STS430 metal support of which flow channel was fabricated. $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}Co_{0.4}Mn_{0.6}O_3$ perovskite oxide was used as cathode material. Single cell performance was increased and saturated at operating time to 300hours at 800$^{\circ}C$ because of cathode sintering effect. The sintering effect was reinvestigated by half cell test and exchange current density was measured as 0.005A/$cm^2$. Maximum power density of the cell was 0.09W/$cm^2$ at 800$^{\circ}C$. Numerical analysis was carried out to classify main factors influencing the single cell performances. Compared to experimental IV curve, simulated curve based on experimental parameters such as exchange current density was in good agreement.

Pb($Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48}$)$O_3$ ceramic thin films were fabricated from an alkoxide-based solution by Sol-Gel method. Pb($Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48}$)$O_3$ co-ramic thin films were formed by spin coating method on Pt/$SiO_2$/Si substrate at 4000[rpm] for 30 [sec]. Coated specimens were dried on the hot-plate at 400[$^{\circ}C$] for 10[min]. The coating process was repeated 6 times and then sintered at temperature between 500 ~ 800[$^{\circ}C$] for 1 hour. The ferroelectric perovskite phases precipitated under the sintering of 700[$^{\circ}C$] for 1 hour. Pb($Zr_{0.52}Ti_{0.48}$)$O_3$ thin film sintered at 700[$^{\circ}C$] for 1hour showed good dielectric constant (2133) and dielectric loss (2.2[%]) Properties. The switching voltage, switching time and leakage currents density were 3.0[V], 1.7[${\mu}$sec] , 160[pA/$\textrm{cm}^2$] repectively.
