Purpose: This research proposes a new modified Recency-Frequency-Monetary (RFM) model by extending the model with spatial analysis for supporting decision-makers in discovering the promotional target market. Research design, data and methodology: This quantitative research utilizes data-mining techniques and the RFM model to cluster a university's provider schools. The RFM model was modified by adapting its variables to the university's marketing context and adding a district's potential (D) variable based on heatmap analysis using Geographic Information System (GIS) and K-means clustering. The K-prototype algorithm and the Elbow method were applied to find provider school clusters using the proposed RFM-D model. After profiling the clusters, the target segment was assigned. The model was validated using empirical data from an Indonesian university, and its performance was compared to the Customer Lifetime Value (CLV)-based RFM utilizing accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. Results: This research identified five clusters. The target segment was chosen from the highest-value and high-value clusters that comprised 17.80% of provider schools but can contribute 75.77% of students. Conclusions: The proposed model recommended more targeted schools in higher-potential districts and predicted the target segment with 0.99 accuracies, outperforming the CLV-based model. The empirical findings help university management determine the promotion location and allocate resources for promotional information distribution and student recruitment.
To quantitatively assess the correlation between subsystems within a port cluster and the overall coordinated development of the port group, the current paper evaluates the coordinated development of port clusters. First, we construct an evaluation index system for the coupling and coordination of port clusters. Next, we introduce the contribution index of port subsystems, coupling degree, and coupling coordination degree functions to formulate a coupling coordination evaluation model for the port cluster. Finally, we use the Yangtze River Delta port cluster as a case study for validation, specifically using empirical data from 2012 to 2021. The findings reveal distinct phased characteristics in the coupling and coordination of port clusters in the Yangtze River Delta, marked by a notable transition from "maladjustment" to "coordination." Further, sustained high coupling values over a decade indicate a significant level of competition and cooperation among ports within the Yangtze River Delta port cluster. Over time, this competitive and collaborative dynamic has progressively evolved toward a more positive and structured direction. Lastly, it is expected that the evaluation model proposed in this paper can be extrapolated to other port clusters to gauge the extent of coordinated development, thereby facilitating horizontal comparisons and vertical analyses.
MAPSI(Management and Analysis for Polyketide Synthase Type I) has been developed to offer computational analysis methods to detect type I PKS(polyketide synthase) gene clusters in genome sequences. MAPSI provides a genome analysis component, which detects PKS gene clusters by identifying domains in proteins of a genome. MAPSI also contains databases on polyketides and genome annotation data, as well as analytic components such as new PKS assembly and domain analysis. The polyketide data and analysis component are accessible through Web interfaces and are displayed with diverse information. MAPSI, which was developed to aid researchers studying type I polyketides, provides diverse components to access and analyze polyketide information and should become a very powerful computational tool for polyketide research. The system can be extended through further studies of factors related to the biological activities of polyketides.
Blue Straggler Stars(BSS) affect their host star cluster in various parameters like color, dynamics, etc. For this reason, it is important to know how to relate BSS frequency and evolution of their host stellar system. To statistical study about global properties of open clusters as the environments of BSS formation, we use three catalogues - (1) two galactic open clusters catalogues including BSS candidate, (2) Milky Way Star Cluster (MWSC) survey data. Then, we compare with the data of two BSS catalogues for test of the result of Marchi et al. 2006. We also investigate the radial mass distribution in open cluster, because it is possible that changing the gradient of radial mass distribution cause increasing the BSS frequency. When we group the open cluster into having BSS or not and other criteria, the groups show slight discrepancies, but we show some important results.

In this paper, the ultra water-repellent thin films were prepared by RF PECVD. On the basis of surface morphology, chemical bonding states and plasma diagnostics, a formation model of clusters for the ultra water-repellent films was discussed from considerations of formation process and laser scattering results. Moreover, using laser scattering method, the relative change of quantity of nano-clusters or size of agglomerates could be confirmed. From the results, the films were deposited with nano-clusters and those of agglomerates, which formed in organosilicon plasma, and formation of agglomerates were depended on the deposition time.

The purpose of this study was to identify korean agricultural extension workers' Perception of role ambiguity according to restructuring of Agricultural Administrative Systems. The target population of this study was selected from 21 centers out of 156 centers. The subjects for study were 728 agricultural extension officers by the cluster sampling drawn from the sampled 21 agricultural extension centers in four clusters. A survey questionnaire was utilized to measure variables of this study. It consisted of role ambiguity scale and demographic items. In this study, role ambiguity scale was translated from the existing scale. Through a pilot test and final survey, reliability and validity of these scales were examined. The data were collected by mail. A total 420 questionnaires out of 728 from 21 agricultural extension centers were returned. After data cleaning, 410 responses were used for analysis. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were applied for data analysis. Major findings of the study were as follows. There were significant differences of the degree of role ambiguity among the local extension workers divided by four clusters. Especially, the degree of role ambiguity of restructured local administrative system were more higher than other clusters, comparatively. Thus, the factors causing the role ambiguity to agricultural extension officers need to be measured it in-depth.
Traditional kernel-level communication systems for clusters are dependent upon computing platforms. Futhermore, they are not easy to use and do not provide various functions for clusters. This paper presents an architecture and various implementation issues of a kernel-level communication system, KCCM(Kernel level Cluster Communication Module), for linux cluster. The KCCM provides asynchronous communication services as well as standard synchronous communication services using send and receive. The KCCM also automatically detects and recovers connection failures at runtime. This allows programmers to use KCCM when they build mission critical applications over TCP-based connection-oriented communication environments. Having developed using standard socket interfaces, it can be easily ported to various platforms. The experimental results show that the KCCM provides good performance for asynchronous communication patterns.
Clusters can provide scalable and flexible architectures for parallel computing servers and data centers. Their performance prediction has been a very challenging issue. Existing performance measurement methodologies are able to measure the performance of servers already constructed. Thus they cannot provide a way to predict the overall system performance in advance when designing the system at the initial phase or adding more nodes for more capacity. Therefore, the performance modeling and prediction methodology for large-scale clusters is highly required. In this paper, we suggest a methodology to predict the performance of large-scale clusters, which consists of measurement, modeling and prediction steps. We apply the methodology to a real cluster server and show its usefulness.
In this article, we conducted molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the effect of applied strain and temperature on irradiation-induced damage in alpha-zirconium. Cascade simulations were performed with primary knock-on atom energies ranging between 1 and 20 KeV, hydrostatic and uniaxial strain values ranging from -2% (compression) to 2% (tensile), and temperatures ranging from 100 to 1000 K. Results demonstrated that the number of defects increased when the displacement cascade proceeded under tensile uniaxial hydrostatic strain. In contrast, compressive strain states tended to decrease the defect production rate as compared with the reference no-strain condition. The proportions of vacancy and interstitial clustering increased by approximately 45% and 55% and 25% and 32% for 2% hydrostatic and uniaxial strain systems, respectively, as compared with the unstrained system, whereas both strain fields resulted in a 15-30% decrease in vacancy and interstitial clustering under compressive conditions. Tensile strains, specifically hydrostatic strain, tended to produce larger sized vacancy and interstitial clusters, whereas compressive strain systems did not significantly affect the size of defect clusters as compared with the reference no-strain condition. The influence of the strain system on radiation damage became more significant at lower temperatures because of less annealing than in higher temperature systems.

Image segmentation is to divide an image into similar parts or objects. This paper presents a segmentation system which consists of a fuzzy neural network and a set of image processing filters. The fuzzy neural network does not need initialization of weights. Therefore it does not have the underutilization problem. This fuzzy neural network controls the size and number of clusters by the vigilance parameter instead of fixing the number of clusters at the initial stage. This fuzzy neural network does not require large amount of memory as in Fuzzy c-Means algorithm. Two satellite images were segmented using the proposed system. The segmented results show that the proposed system is better on segmenting images.
