This study aims to perform damage identification for Da-Sheng-Guan (DSG) high-speed railway truss arch bridge using fuzzy clustering analysis. Firstly, structural health monitoring (SHM) system is established for the DSG Bridge. Long-term field monitoring strain data in 8 different cases caused by high-speed trains are taken as classification reference for other unknown cases. And finite element model (FEM) of DSG Bridge is established to simulate damage cases of the bridge. Then, effectiveness of one fuzzy clustering analysis method named transitive closure method and FEM results are verified using the monitoring strain data. Three standardization methods at the first step of fuzzy clustering transitive closure method are compared: extreme difference method, maximum method and non-standard method. At last, the fuzzy clustering method is taken to identify damage with different degrees and different locations. The results show that: non-standard method is the best for the data with the same dimension at the first step of fuzzy clustering analysis. Clustering result is the best when 8 carriage and 16 carriage train in the same line are in a category. For DSG Bridge, the damage is identified when the strain mode change caused by damage is more significant than it caused by different carriages. The corresponding critical damage degree called damage threshold varies with damage location and reduces with the increase of damage locations.

This paper introduces an identification method for nonlinear models in the form of rule-based Fuzzy-Neural Networks (FNN). In this study, the development of the rule-based fuzzy neural networks focuses on the technologies of Computational Intelligence (CI), namely fuzzy sets, neural networks, and genetic algorithms. The FNN modeling and identification environment realizes parameter identification through synergistic usage of clustering techniques, genetic optimization and a complex search method. We use a HCM (Hard C-Means) clustering algorithm to determine initial apexes of the membership functions of the information granules used in this fuzzy model. The parameters such as apexes of membership functions, learning rates, and momentum coefficients are then adjusted using the identification algorithm of a GA hybrid scheme. The proposed GA hybrid scheme effectively combines the GA with the improved com-plex method to guarantee both global optimization and local convergence. An aggregate objective function (performance index) with a weighting factor is introduced to achieve a sound balance between approximation and generalization of the model. According to the selection and adjustment of the weighting factor of this objective function, we reveal how to design a model having sound approximation and generalization abilities. The proposed model is experimented with using several time series data (gas furnace, sewage treatment process, and NOx emission process data from gas turbine power plants).

Due to advances in hardware performance, user-friendly interfaces are becoming one of the major concerns in information systems. Linguistic conversation is a very natural way of human communications. Fuzzy techniques have been employed to liaison the discrepancy between the qualitative linguistic terms and quantitative computerized data. This paper deals with linguistic queries using clustering results on data sets, which are intended to retrieve the close clusters or distant clusters from the clustering results. In order to support such queries, a fuzzy technique-based method is proposed. The method introduces distance membership functions, namely, close and distant membership functions which transform the metric distance between two objects into the degree of closeness or farness, respectively. In order to measure the degree of closeness or farness between two clusters, both cluster closeness measure and cluster farness measure which incorporate distance membership function and cluster memberships are considered. For the flexibility of clustering, fuzzy clusters are assumed to be formed. This allows us to linguistically query close or distant clusters by constructing fuzzy relation based on the measures.
This paper deals with the problem of channel identification for Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO) slow fading channels using clustering algorithms. Due to the intrinsic memory of the discrete-time model of the channel, over short observation periods, the received data vectors of the SIMO model are spread in clusters because of the AWGN noise. Each cluster is practically centered around the ideal channel output labels without noise and the noisy received vectors are distributed according to a multivariate Gaussian distribution. Starting from the Markov SIMO channel model, simultaneous maximum ikelihood estimation of the input vector and the channel coefficients reduce to one of obtaining the values of this pair that minimizes the sum of the Euclidean norms between the received and the estimated output vectors. Viterbi algorithm can be used for this purpose provided the trellis diagram of the Markov model can be labeled with the noiseless channel outputs. The problem of identification of the ideal channel outputs, which is the focus of this paper, is then equivalent to designing a Vector Quantizer (VQ) from a training set corresponding to the observed noisy channel outputs. The Linde-Buzo-Gray (LBG)-type clustering algorithms [1] could be used to obtain the noiseless channel output labels from the noisy received vectors. One problem with the use of such algorithms for blind time-varying channel identification is the codebook initialization. This paper looks at two critical issues with regards to the use of VQ for channel identification. The first has to deal with the applicability of this technique in general; we present theoretical results for the conditions under which the technique may be applicable. The second aims at overcoming the codebook initialization problem by proposing a novel approach which attempts to make the first phase of the channel estimation faster than the classical codebook initialization methods. Sample simulation results are provided confirming the effectiveness of the proposed initialization technique.
The analysis of microarray data is essential for large amounts of gene expression data. In this review we focus on clustering techniques. The biological rationale for this approach is the fact that many co-expressed genes are co-regulated, and identifying co-expressed genes could aid in functional annotation of novel genes, de novo identification of transcription factor binding sites and elucidation of complex biological pathways. Co-expressed genes are usually identified in microarray experiments by clustering techniques. There are many such methods, and the results obtained even for the same datasets may vary considerably depending on the algorithms and metrics for dissimilarity measures used, as well as on user-selectable parameters such as desired number of clusters and initial values. Therefore, biologists who want to interpret microarray data should be aware of the weakness and strengths of the clustering methods used. In this review, we survey the basic principles of clustering of DNA microarray data from crisp clustering algorithms such as hierarchical clustering, K-means and self-organizing maps, to complex clustering algorithms like fuzzy clustering.
In data representation, the clustering performs a grouping process which combines given data into some similar clusters. The various similarity measures have been used in many researches. But, the validity of clustering results is subjective and ambiguous, because of difficulty and shortage about objective criterion of clustering. The fuzzy clustering provides a good method for subjective clustering problems. It performs clustering through the similarity matrix which has fuzzy membership value for assigning each object. In this paper, for objective fuzzy clustering, the clustering algorithm which joins principal components analysis as a dimension reduction model with bayesian learning as a statistical learning theory. For performance evaluation of proposed algorithm, Iris and Glass identification data from UCI Machine Learning repository are used. The experimental results shows a happy outcome of proposed model.
This paper proposes a finger crease pattern identification algorithm utilizing a clustering method. The algorithms has been developed for the use of biometric person identification system. Since the finger crease pattern may be well-imaged utilizing low cost imaging devices such as low-end CCD camera with LED lighting, the feasibility of commercialization of the algorithm and the system utilizing the algorithm may be well justified if the finger crease pattern is a reasonable choice for the biometric feature. In this paper, we exploit this possibility and show the potential of using the finger crease pattern as a feature for biometric person identification.
We introduce a hybrid identification of information granulation(IG)-based fuzzy model to carry out the model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. To optimally design the IG-based fuzzy model we exploit a hybrid identification through genetic alrogithms(GAs) and Hard C-Means (HCM) clustering. An initial structure of fuzzy model is identified by determining the number of input, the seleced input variables, the number of membership function, and the conclusion inference type by means of GAs. Granulation of information data with the aid of HCM clustering help determine the initial paramters of fuzzy model such as the initial apexes of the membership functions and the initial values of polyminial functions being used in the premise and consequence part of the fuzzy rules. And the inital parameters are tuned effectively with the aid of the GAs and the least square method. Numerical example is included to evaluate the performance of the proposed model.

In this paper, an approach to identify fuzzy rules is proposed. The decision of the optimal number of fuzzy rule is made by means of fuzzy c-means clustering. The identification of the parameters of fuzzy implications is carried out by use of genetic algorithms. For the efficinet and fast parameter identification, the reduction thechnique of search areas of genetica algorithms is proposed. The feasibility of the proposed approach is evaluated through the identification of the fuzzy model to describe an input-output relation of Gas Furnace. Despite the simplicity of the propsed apprach the accuracy of the identified fuzzy model of gas furnace is superior as compared with that of other fuzzy modles.

A design method of rule-based fuzzy modeling is presented for the model identification of complex and nonlinear systems. The proposed rule-based fuzzy modeling implements system structure and parameter identification in the efficient form of ``IF....,THEN...', using the theories of optimization theory , linguistic fuzzy implication rules and fuzzy c-means clustering. Three kinds of method for fuzzy modeling presented in this paper include simplified inference (type I), linear inference (type 2), and modified linear inference (type 3). In order to identify premise structure and parameter of fuzzy implication rules, fuzzy c- means clustering and modified complex method are used respectively and the least sequare method is utilized for the identification of optimum consequence parameters. Time series data for gas furance and those for sewage treatment process are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed rule-based fuzzy modeling. Comparison shows that the proposed method can produce the fuzzy model with higher accuracy than previous other studies.
