The Relation of Consumer Value Variables and Clothing Information Exploration Behaviors (소비자가치 변인들의 관계와 의복정보탐색행동)

  • The purposes of this study were to reveal the relation of consumer value variables and to identify the difference of clothing information exploration behaviors on consumer value variables. The data were collected from 267 college women residing in Gwangju using a Questionnaire to general value, clothing value, consumption value and clothing information exploration behaviors. It were analyzed with factor analysis, cluster analysis, T-test, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis using statistical program SPSS 10.0. The results of this research were as follows: 1. Only one factor of general value had a significant influence on 'practical' of clothing value. All of general value and clothing value had a significant influence on the whole consumption value. 2. Clothing information search behaviors was divided into three factors: 'variety pursuit' 'active information collection' and 'uniqueness pursuit'. General value group had a significant difference in 'variety pursuit' and 'active information collection' behavior. Clothing value and consumption value group had a significant difference in all factors of clothing information search behaviors. By implication, this study could be explain each contributions of consumer values and suggest useful variable of consumer values in future clothing behaviors research.

The Effect of Clothing Involvement and Loyalty Orientation on the Information Search Behavior (의복관여도와 충성성향이 정보탐색 활동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of clothing involvement, store and brand loyalty orientation on the information search behavior. The study subjects comprised 298 females living in Seoul and Kyung-gi area. The data were analyzed with factor analysis, regression, cluster analysis, ANOVA and correlation analysis. Clothing involvement and information search behavior consisted of various factors. Clothing involvement, store and brand loyalty influenced information search behavior. Fashion and clothing involvement was the most important factor which influenced all loyalty and information search behavior(i.e. brand and store loyalty, personal and nonpersonal information search behavior). According to store and brand loyalty factors, female consumers classified into three groups : low loyalty, brand loyalty and store loyalty group. Three groups showed different clothing involvement, information search, clothing purchasing behavior and demographic variables. Therefore, loyalty orientation is the important factor which can describe the consumer behavior more effectively.

A Study on the Relationship of Use of Clothing Advertisements in Magazines as an Information Source to Clothing Involvement (잡지 의류광고의 정보원 이용과 의복관여도에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of use of clothing advertisements in magazines as an information source to clothing involvement. Questionnaires were administered to 131 women living in Sangju City during April of 2000. Data were analyzed by using factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe test. Attitude toward clothing advertisements in magazines was factor analyzed resulting three factors such as quality information & degree of use, fashion & brand information, and communication. Clothing advertisement was not considered as a useful information source and was not understood the message of advertisement clearly. There were significant differences between high involvement group and low involvement group in attitude toward clothing advertisements as information sources. High involvement group considered clothing advertisements as information sources more positively and used advertisements to search information about fashion and product quality. Also, significant differences were shown according to marriage state, age, and education level.

  • The purpose of this study is to make up an effective market strategy for distinguishing clothing shops through analysing the influences on store choice behaviors by demographical characteristics, clothing shopping orientations and information search activities as well as analysing the effects of information search activities according to clothing shopping orientations, together with clarifying the dimension of clothing shopping orientations and information search activities. Clothing shopping orientations were factor analyzed resulting five factors, such as Recreational Shopping, Store/Brand Loyalty, Economic Shopping, Fashion Synchronization, Careful shopping. Information search behavior were factor analyzed resulting five factors, such as mass media information, commercial media information, personal information, store information, past experience information. According to a result of looking into the influences of clothing shopping orientations on information search behaviors, as shopping orientation for pleasure, fashion synchronization orientation, brand store royal orientation & economical orientation go high, the search degree of store information & mass media information, commercial media information & personal information, past experience information and personal information raise up respectively more and more. The results of regression analysis at factors affecting the store choice behaviors are significantly different.

The Impact of Lifestyle Factors on Clothing Purchase Motives, Information Use, and Selection Criteria in Male College Students (남자대학생의 라이프 스타일 요인이 의복의 구매동기, 정보원활용, 의복선택기준에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of lifestyle factors on clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria in male college students. The sample included 241 male college students, and an instrument was developed based on the previous studies. The statistical analyses used for this study were factor analysis and multiple regression. The result of factor analysis showed that lifestyle consisted of six factors : clothing interest, serif-confidence, social participation, planned clothing purchase, family-orientation, and conservativeness. Clothing purchase motives consisted of conspicuous consumption motives, fashion and individuality motives, and economic motives. Clothing information use consisted of four factors: paper/display, personal advice, fashion show/clothing observation, and electronic media. Finally. clothing selection criteria consisted of practicability, fashion/individuality, and conformity, Multip1e regression revealed that there were significant effects of lifestyle factors on clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria. For example, self-confidence factor had a negative impact on conspicuous consumption motive, personal advice information use, and fashion/individuality criteria. The relative importance of lifestyle factors were different according to different dimensions of clothing purchase motives, information use, and selection criteria.

Information Search Behavior in Functional Sportswear Purchasing -Focused on Clothing and Sports Concern- (기능성 소재 스포츠웨어 구입시의 정보이용행태 -의복 및 스포츠 관심의 영향-)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the information search behavior in functional sportswear purchasing by clothing and sports concern variables. Functional sportswear means sportswear made of functional clothing materials. The information search behavior in this study included information sources, information seeking attributes, information search differences between when consumers buy functional sportswear and when they purchase nonfunctional sportswear, and information characteristics. For this purpose, 500 questionnaires had been distributed to university students and 409 of which were used in the study. For data analysis, frequency, reliability analysis, factor analysis, and t-test were used. The results were as follows: first, the friends showed to be the most effective information source of functional clothing materials sportswear and internet revealed to be the information source that made the most frequent use of. The experts appeared to be the most reliable information source. Second, the more the students were concerned about clothing and sports, the more important they considered information seeking attributes. Third, in the aspects of information search differences between when consumers bought functional sportswear and when they purchased nonfunctional sportswear, only sports concern variables showed to be significant. The last, regardless of clothing and sports concern variables, it was found that customers considered all the information characteristics important.

Consumer Information Processing and Evaluation in Clothing Purchase Decision Making (의복구매시의 정보처리와 평가과정)

  • The objectives of this study were to identify 1) the steps of information processing and evaluation in clothing purchase decision making, 2) evaluative criteria and determinant attributes at each step, 3) decision making rule, and 4) the effect of clothing involvement on information processing and evaluation. The data were obtained 71 female adults using questionnaire, observation and protocol in real shopping behavior. Consumer's information processing and evaluation was a circulated process composed of multi-steps. Consumer considered aesthetic and intrinsic evaluative criteria to be important and used compensatory and noncompensatory rule together at each decision making step. Clothing involvement had an partial effect on information processing and evaluation.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among fasion leadership, Social character, clothing conformity and fashion information source. For this purpose, a causal model was to be constructed and empirically tested. Fashion leadership is divided into fashion opinion leadership and fashion innovativeness and is appropriated to the model. The following conclusions were derived from the data analysis. 1. Social character has direct effects on clothing conformity, but indirect effects on fashion information source. 2. Significant interaction between clothing conformity and fashion information source was found. 3. In a fashion opinion leadership model, social character, clothing conformity, and fashion information source have significant direct effects on fashion opinion leadership 4. In a fashion innovativeness model, social character and fashion information source have significant direct effects on fashion innovativeness, and clothing conformity indirect effects through the fashion information source. 5. The explanatory power ($R^2$) was higher for the fashion opinion leadership model than for the fashion innovativeness model.

  • Illusory Correlation Effect(ICE) is a cognitive error that arises from overestimating particular stimulus of an individual or a group. This may cause formation of stereotypes of the individual or the group and may also lead to generating various biased judgments. this study investigated the Illusory Correlation Effect of clothing style and considered the effect of Preview information. The results Provided evidence for the existence of an illusory correlation between a wearer and clothing style. Also, an illusory correlation was influenced information of stimuli attributes. This implies subjects perceived stimuli more distinctively when previous information was provided.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare clothing values and clothing purchasing behaviors between Korean and American college students, especially men. Also this study was to analyze the clothing values effect on the clothing purchasing behavior. For the practical study, 200 questionaries were surveyed, 110 from Korea and 105 from American. The average and frequency, t-test, $\chi^2$, multi-variate analysis of variance and factor analysis were used for this study. The result showed, first, there were little differences in the clothing value aspect. Both Korean college men and American college men considered the theoretical value to be most important, however, the American college men were higher than the Korean college men for theoretical, economic and political values. Compared to the Americans, the Koreans considered social clothing value to be more important but theoretical, economic and political values were less important. Second, there were some differences in most of all the clothing purchasing behaviors. There were slight differences in the reasons for the purchases between Korean and American college men. Both of them said that they purchase clothes to satisfy their needs. Regarding the information sources for the purchase, The Korean college men were slightly higher than the American college men for the media information sources and lower than them for the human information sources. Regarding the place where the clothes were purchased, the Korean college men preferred to make purchases at department stores, and the American college men preferred shopping malls. Regarding the monthly expenses for clothing, less than 50,000 won($50) was the average for most of the Korean women, but most of the American college women spent 100,000~150,000 won($150) per month. Third, the clothing value was different in the reason for purchasing, the purchasing information source, the purchasing place, and the monthly expenses for the clothing.
