Consumer's impulse buying behavior is extensive in everyday contexts. Credit cards promote spending by making the transaction simpler and by removing the immediate need for money. College students grown up in a credit card society attain cards at college's time and keep cards for 10 years over. In an effort to extend understanding of consumer behavior across cultures, this paper examines the cultural differences of impulse buying behavior and credit card use between Korean and American college students, and to investigate the relationships between impulse buying behavior and credit card use in each group. Data were obtained from student credit card users attending universities in metropolitan areas in Korea(N=154) and America(N=194). Data were analyzed using by Confirmatory Factor Analysis, MANOVA, MDA, and Regression. The results indicated there are significant differences of fashion-oriented impulse buying and credit card use between American and Korean college students. The impulse buying behavior is likely to increase for both Korean and American students who use credit cards for spending. Findings suggest that credit card use is important in predicting impulse buying behavior across these two cultures. Implications are drawn for the increasing global phenomenon impulse buying behavior and credit card use.
The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationships among shopping orientation, information source, service duality, and impulse buying behavior of the elderly women, which nay provide insights related to silver fashion market in Korea. Data were obtained from 50's and 60's women living in Busan(N=285), and analyzed Using by factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha and t-test. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Comported to unimpulse buying group, impulse buying group was more likely to be influenced by hedonics shopping orientation, economic shopping orientation, personal shopping orientation, and convenient shopping orientation. 2. for information source, impulse buying group seemed more to use various information sources than unimpulse buying group, such as advertising of newspaper, magazin or TV, experience, salespersons' opinions. 3. For perceived service quality, impulse buying group was more likely to be effected by events of store, product advertisement, and opening/closing time of store. But demographic characteristics doesn't significant differences between impulse-group and unimpulse-buying group of elderly women. This study suggests some implications and strategies for silver fashion market.
Impulsive buying behavior is an important aspect of consumer behavior and is of significant interest to researchers and retail management alike. It is a familiar from of in-apparel store behavior because of its social-psychological characteristics. The objectives of this study were to find out the variable(5) influencing impulsive and non-impulsive buying behavior, as well as to investigate the causal relationships between variables related to impulsive buying behaviors in boutiques. A questionnaire was completed by 345 boutiques customers in Busan, Korea. Demographics showed that consumers were more educated and had higher incomes than average consumers in Korea. Data was analysed by discriminant analysis and path analysis. Results showed that "Clothing involvement" was the most influencing variable determined impulsive buying behavior. "Self-monitoring" proved negatively influencing on impulsive buying behavior in boutiques. Consumers with low interest in apparel reacted positively to the in-store purchasing situation, and did negatively to their affective factors. As a result, they provided the useful information for consumer behavior researchers and boutiques retailers.

The purposes of the study were to define the clothing evaluative criteria concept as an internal evaluative criteria and buying evaluative criteria based on the Engel-Kollot-Blackwell's consumer behavior model, and to explore the differences between internal evaluative criteria and buying evaluative criteria imprically. The study also aimed to find out the differences between internal evaluative criteria and buying evaluative criteria according to clothing items(underwears, pajama, jeans, blouse, two-pieces, coat) The questionnaires were administered to college female students living in Seoul. Means and Standard Deviations were calculated, and Discriminant Analysis were used for statistical inferences. The results were as follows: In underwears, internal evaluative criteria were comfort and fiber, while toying evaluative criteria was color. In pajama, internal evaluative criteria was comfort and fiber, while buying evaluative criteria was good buy. In jean, internal evaluative criteria was fit and suitability to individual, while buying evaluative criteria was suitability to individual and price. In blouse, internal evaluative criteria was beauty and harmony with other clothing. In two-pieces, internal evaluative criteria was color and beauty, while buying evaluative criteria was suitability to individual. In coat, internal evaluative criteria was textile and color. In conclusion, as shown in the results above, the evident differences between internal evaluative criteria and buying evaluative criteria and buying evaluative criteria were testified, therefore evaluative criteria should he defined as internal evaluative criteria and buying evaluative criteria, and study of evaluative criteria should be explored according to clothing items.

Technologies such as television shopping channels and the internet expand consumers' impulse purchasing opportunities. The interest in national differences of consumer behavior was growing and highlighted the importance of understanding the national context of consumer behavior in an increasing globalized marketplace. The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of fashion involvement and hedonic consumption on impulse buying for Korean and American young consumers, and to compare the differences between two groups. A questionnaire was developed from literatures reviewed. Data were obtained from students attending universities in Korea(N=413) and the U.S.(N=290). Using structural equation modeling, the results indicated that the proposed model of this study was appropriate to explain the effects of fashion involvement and hedonic consumption on impulse buying for Korean and American young consumers. The model showed that fashion involvement and hedonic consumption played important roles in triggering impulse buying for two groups. In addition, American consumers were more likely to influence fashion involvement and hedonic consumption on impulse buying than Korean consumers. The results provided some insights into globalized retail marketing theory supporting the national aspects of impulse buying. Future research and managerial implications are addressed.

Consumers nowadays spend more time using computers and are getting used to buying products through the Internet(Park, 2002), and therefore, understanding consumers' impulse buying behavior in an online shopping context is also important for retailers. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between online apparel impulse buying behavior and the two risk dimensions of apparel involvement(i.e., risk importance, risk probability). The data were collected using an online survey with a structured questionnaire. A total of 339 college students were used in the study. The results of MANOVA showed that the impulse buyer group perceived the risk importance and risk probability of apparel involvement significantly lower. Based on the results, the two hypotheses were supported. From the results of the present study, it is concluded that the two risk dimensions of apparel involvement are negatively related to online impulse buying behavior of apparel products. From the results of the present study, it is concluded that the risk dimensions of apparel involvement are closely related to the online apparel impulse buying behavior.

This study compares the expected values of appearance management for the suit buying behavior of men in two age groups: (20s-30s and 40s-50s) to investigate the effect of male consumers' expected values in regards to appearance management on the purchase behavior of men's suits between two generations. A survey was carried out with male consumers between the ages of 20 and 50; a total of 135 responses were analyzed by descriptive analysis, factor analysis, a reliability test, an independent samples t-test, MANOVA, ANOVA, and regression analysis. The results of this study were as follows: 1) From a result of the factor analysis on male consumers' expected value of appearance management and the information sources and purchase evaluative criteria for buying men's suits, each of three variance assessments clearly showed factorial structures. 2) There were significant differences between those in their 20s-30s and those in their 40s-50s in terms of male consumers' expected values of appearance management, their information sources, and their purchase evaluative criteria when buying men's suits. 3) As a result of looking at the differences in the effects of expected values of appearance management on men's suit buying behavior according to age (generation), the younger generation in this study showed that men's suit purchasing tendency was affected by the managing appearance factor for internal reasons such as enjoyment and self-satisfaction. On the other hand, the assessment of the older generation revealed that appearance management for external reasons such as showing social power, good human relationships, and conformity influenced their suit purchase behaviors.
The purpose of the present study was to investigate the differences in purchase behaviors, buying motives of secondhand clothing and the perception toward secondhand clothing products among the groups as determined by their gender and age. Data were collected by a pilot test and the final questionnaire survey administered to 450 subjects in the age range from 20 to 59, living in Seoul; 430 were used for data analyses. The results showed that 3 factors for buying motives (distinction, affordability, and quality & attractiveness) and 2 factors for perception toward secondhand clothes (positive and negative perceptions) were formulated. Women tended to buy more secondhand clothing products for themselves as well as their family, and put more importance on most of selective criteria than men did. The young were more likely to have negative perception and to buy at diverse places. Those having experiences of buying secondhand clothes showed more positive perception on such products. It is expected that this study provides basic information needed for secondhand apparel companies to develop their marketing strategies to increase customer satisfaction.
