Clinical Practice Performance According to Type of Practices and Satisfaction of Clinical Practice in Students at Child Health Nursing (아동간호실습 운영형태에 따른 간호학생의 임상실습수행도 및 실습만족도)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to explore clinical practice performance according to type of practice in students in pediatric nursing and the relationship with satisfaction of clinical practice. Methods: The subjects consisted of 531 nursing students (307 at a pediatric ward and 224 at a nursery) from 5 colleges of nursing. Data collected from March to June 2012 were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, AVONA and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: Clinical practice performance on direct nursing activity was significantly different according to the course on pediatric nursing, grade point average, and satisfaction of nursing major. Observation practice was different according to type of college, the course on pediatric nursing, grade point average, duration of practice and clinical educator in the pediatric ward. In the nursery, direct nursing activity was significantly different according to the type of college, the course on pediatric nursing, hospital type, and duration of practice. Observation practice was different according to type of college, satisfaction of a nursing major, and the clinical educator. In addition, significant correlations were found between clinical practice performance and satisfaction of clinical practice. Conclusion: Our research can assist effective pediatric nursing practice planning for nursing students.

Stress, depression, coping styles and satisfaction of clinical practice in EMT-paramedic students (응급구조(학)과 학생의 스트레스, 우울, 대처방법 및 임상실습 만족도)

  • Purpose : The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between stress, depression, coping styles, and satisfaction of clinical practice in paramedic students. Methods : The study was conducted to 221 paramedic students who have experienced clinical training from March until June in 2012. Questionnaires consisted of level of stress, depression, coping styles, and satisfaction of clinical practice. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results : The mean score of stress was $2.69({\pm}.69)$, depression was $19.09({\pm}9.41)$, coping styles was $3.17({\pm}.47)$, and satisfaction of clinical practice was $3.61({\pm}.58)$. Stress had a significant positive correlation with depression and a negative correlation with active coping and satisfaction of clinical practice. Depression had a significant positive correlation with passive coping and a negative correlation with satisfaction of clinical practice. Active coping had a significant positive correlation with passive coping and satisfaction of clinical practice. Conclusion : There was a positive effect on decreasing stress and depression in paramedic students, and encouraging positive coping when the students received counseling and instruction for clinical practice.

Self Efficacy, Fatigue, Communication Competence and Satisfaction of Clinical Practice and its Related Factors among Some Dental Hygiene Students (일부 치위생과 학생의 자기효능감, 피로, 의사소통능력과 임상실습 만족도와의 관련요인)

  • Purpose: This study was performed to provide basic educational data for improvement of satisfaction in clinical practice by investigating the relationship of clinical practice satisfaction with self-efficacy, fatigue and communication skill in dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey using a self-administered questionnaire was conducted among 205 second- and third-year students enrolled in an dental hygiene program at three colleges located in A and B province from March 10 to April 10, 2018. Results: Satisfaction level of clinical practice was significantly higher in the group more satisfied with their majors, with more healthy subjective health status, more satisfied with their interpersonal relationships, with a higher self-efficacy, with a lower fatigue, and with better communication skill. Clinical practice satisfaction had a significantly positive correlation with self-efficacy and communication skill and a significantly negative correlation with fatigue. Factors affecting clinical practice satisfaction in the subjects were communication skill, self-efficacy and fatigue. The total variance explained by all three variables was 20%. Conclusion: Further studies and development of education programs including a broad range of strategies for clinical training are warranted by reflecting those related variables to improve clinical practice satisfaction in dental hygiene students.

The Effects of Preceptorship on Nursing Students' Critical Thinking Propensity, Clinical Competency and Satisfaction of Clinical Practice (프리셉터쉽 적용이 간호학생외 비판적 사고성향, 입상수행능력 및 임상실습 만족도에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was to compare effects of preceptorship on nursing students' critical thinking propensity, clinical competency, and the satisfaction of clinical practice. Method: The subjects were 80 by preceptorship group and 51 by conventional method group. The data were analyzed by SPSS 12.0 program. Results: The subject's critical thinking propensity, clinical competency and satisfaction of clinical practices between the preceptorship group and the conventional method group revealed statistically significant difference. Subject's critical thinking propensity revealed significant correlations, along with the clinical competεncy and the satisfaction for clinical practice. And the clinical competency revealed statistically significant correlations with the satisfaction for clinical practice. Conclusion: Findings of this study reveals that the nursing students who had clinical practice by preceptorship showed higher scores in the critical thinking propensity, clinical competency, and the satisfaction for clinical practice than the conventional method group. Consequently, we are quite consciously encouraged to reinforce the preceptorship for realization of an effective clinical practice education for nursing students.

Effects of Clinical Practice Satisfaction on Major Satisfaction Based on the Survey of Satisfaction of Clinical Laboratory Science Students on Clinical Practice (임상실습에 대한 임상병리(학)과 학생들의 만족도 조사를 바탕으로 임상실습 만족이 전공 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the satisfaction of clinical laboratory science students practiced in clinical practice. In addition, the satisfaction of clinical practice and the satisfaction of the clinical practicum affecting the major satisfaction were investigated. From February 20, 2019 to March 10, 2019, a questionnaire survey was conducted on clinical laboratory science students who performed clinical practice in eight weeks of 2018. A total of 344 people were selected for the final analysis data. The questionnaire was comprised of 46 items, which consisted of three items of the general characteristics and 43 items of the clinical practice satisfaction. The satisfaction level of the clinical practice evaluation part was lowest in average 3.88 points. Male students were more satisfied with clinical practice than female students. The satisfaction level was higher in the group with more than the average degree of satisfaction than the group with less than the average. The factors that affect the satisfaction of clinical practice and the degree of satisfaction with majors are the satisfaction with the clinical practice time and satisfaction with interpersonal relationships.

Effect of clinical practice of dental hygiene students on professional identity (임상실습이 치위생 전공학생의 전문직 정체성에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study aimed to get the data necessary for dental hygiene students to perceive the need for establishing a professional identity as dental hygienists and developing a program which reinforce pride as a preliminary professional. Methods : The subjects were 695 dental hygiene students in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Chungcheong areas. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Results : 1. The professional identity of dental hygiene students was 3.02 points, and the satisfaction with institutes for practice was 2.96 points. 2. The higher the satisfaction with the major was, the higher the identity was. Also, the identity was high when the frequency of clinical practice was 1 (3.11 points) and when they selected their major which corresponds with his aptitude (3.20 points). 3. The satisfaction with clinical practice was high when they didn't have any experience in dental clinic before clinical practice and when the satisfaction with the major was high. 4. Regarding the correlation between the professional identity and the satisfaction with clinical practice, the higher the satisfaction with clinical practice, the higher the professional identity. 5. The effective variables regarding the professional identity were satisfaction with a major, satisfaction with clinical practice, and frequency of clinical practice. Conclusions : The professional identity of students may be established through school education involving clinical practice. The identity of students may affect the occupational satisfaction, the identity and the work efficiency of dental hygienists in the future. Thus, it is deemed necessary to have a continued collaborative relationship between a school and an institute for clinical practice so that students may establish their correct views and identity.

Satisfaction towards clinical training institution according to clinical practice contents in the dental hygiene students (치위생과 학생들의 임상실습내용에 따른 실습기관별 만족도)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the satisfaction towards clinical training institution according to clinical practice contents in the dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 382 dental hygiene students of five colleges in Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongsangnam-do from August 20 to September 30, 2013. The data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 20.0 program for t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation analysis. The questionnaire consisted of the general characteristics of the subjects and the satisfaction towards the clinical training institution. The satisfaction was composed of 44 questions including the general satisfaction, practice contents, practice guide, training time of practice, training environment, practice evaluation, and personal relationship by Likert 5 point scale. Results: The students were most satisfied with the practice contents of the dental university hospitals. The dental hospital and dental clinics were the most satisfied choice in the personal relationships. Public health center dental clinics bestowed the students with the most satisfied practice guidance, time, environment, and evaluation. Practice contents and practice time were the most influential factors to dental hygiene department satisfaction to the students. Conclusions: In order to enhance the clinical practice satisfaction, it is necessary to have the continuous relationship with the clinical training institution. The practice satisfaction is influenced by the contents and environment of the clinical training institution.

The effect of verbal violence, clinical practice stress, and coping with stress on nursing students' major satisfaction during clinical practice (간호대학생의 임상실습 중 경험한 언어폭력, 임상실습 스트레스 및 스트레스 대처가 전공 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the effect of verbal violence, clinical practice stress, and coping with stress on the major satisfaction in nursing students during clinical practice. Methods: A cross-sectional study was used. A survey was conducted from May 3 to May 10, 2022, on 200 nursing students who were in their junior and seneior years at two universities in Gyeongsangbuk-do. Descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé's test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression analysis were employed to analyze the data. Results: Major satisfaction was found to be significantly negatively correlated with verbal violence (r=-.30, p<.001) and clinical practice stress (r=-.15, p=.032) and to be positively correlated with coping with stress (r=.24, p<.001). Their satisfaction with clinical practice (β=.29, p=.037), verbal violence (β=-.23, p<.001), coping with stress (β=.16, p=.015), religion (β=.14, p=.041), and clinical practice stress (β =-.13, p=.048) explained 19.3% of the variance in nursing students' major satisfaction during clinical practice. Conclusion: A verbal violence and coping with stress program for nursing students should be developed to increase nursing students' major satisfaction during clinical practice.

The Relation between the Problem Solving Ability and Clinical Practice Satisfaction of Dental Hygiene Students (일부 치위생과 학생의 문제해결능력과 임상실습만족도와의 관계)

  • Objectives: This study was carried out to provide basic materials to draw up measures for courses operation and effective clinical practice operation for the cultivation of future effective problem solving ability by identifying the relationship between problem solving ability and clinical practice satisfaction of dental hygiene students. Methods: This study targeted 215 dental hygiene students from 3 universities located in Gyeonggi-do from November 30 to December 4, 2015. We analyzed the data with frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test. One-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, Regression analysis by using SPSS. Results: Clinical practice satisfaction between grades according to the general characteristics of the study subjects was analyzed and as a result, clinical practice satisfaction showed a significant difference depending on grade (t=-2.355, p=.019), major satisfaction(F=9.548, p=.000), health status(F=4.909, p=.008). The problem solving ability according to the general characteristics of the study subjects was compared and as a result, the problem solving ability score of students 'living apart from their family or living in lodgings' was found to be higher than that of students 'living with their family' (p=.023) and the problem solving ability of students who answered 'satisfied' with their major was higher than that of students who answered 'moderate' (p=.000). As the problem solving ability and major satisfaction are higher and health status is better, clinical practice satisfaction showed higher results (p<.01). Conclusions: The above results showed a correlation between the problem solving ability and clinical practice satisfaction of dental hygiene students and clinical practice satisfaction showed higher scores as the problem solving ability level was higher. Therefore, efforts to enhance dental hygiene students' clinical practice satisfaction are considered necessary by developing and providing a program to strengthen students' problem solving ability.

Influence of achievement motivation and self concept on clinical practice satisfaction in the dental hygiene students (치위생과 학생의 성취동기 및 자아개념이 임상실습 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of achievement motivation and self concept on clinical practice satisfaction in the dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 206 dental hygiene students in Jeonnam from December to October, 2013. The questionnaire consisted of 6questions of general characteristics, 6 questions of achievement motivation, 18 questions of self concept, and 23 questions of clinical practice satisfaction. Cronbach's alpha was 0.881, 0.889, and 0.935 in achievement motivation, self concept, and clinical practice satisfaction, respectively. The data were analyzed by t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results: Clinical practice satisfaction showed a significant difference by grade(p<0.05), personality(p<0.05) and satisfaction of major(p<0.01). Clinical practice satisfaction had a positive correlation with achievement motivation(r=0.508, p<0.01) and self concept(r=0.324, p<0.01). Multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that clinical practice satisfaction was related with achievement motivation(p<0.05) and self concept(p<0.01). Conclusions: The clinical practice satisfaction depends on achievement motivation and self concept. It is necessary to develop the program to improve satisfaction level of clinical practice by achievement motivation and self concept.
