The word "Sajeung(死證)" in "Huangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)" includes a warning to lead to death if it is treated wrongly as well as a definite diagnosis saying that it is impossible to care diseases. A disorder condition of the body means that the balance of Eum-yang(陰陽) are broken or O-haeng(五行) doesn't have a good circulation. The prediction to progress is very important as much as decision of whether it is Sajeung or not because it can be changed by the time of day or night and also by changes of the seasons. In addition, according to the relations between Sangsaeng(相生) and Sanggeuk(相克) of O-haeng patients' diseases fall into a dangerous condition at the time under control. But sometimes it can be a severe illness even they are full of vigor. When living and dying has to be determined, it is emphasized the significance of inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiring and palpation(望聞問切法). Especially this is the key point to study people's face and pulse.
Objectives : In this study, the relation of pathologic mechanisms of Samcho(三焦) in Hwangdineijing and Samcho-Sanghwa(三焦相火) is investigated for the purpose of understanding the concept of Samcho. Methods : The diseases and symptoms about Samcho(三焦) in Hwangdineijing and many important medical literatures including Sanghanlun(傷寒論) and Jinguiyaolue were selected and analyzed to overview the historical changes of pathologic mechanism about Samcho. Results : In comparison of the Pathologic Mechanisms of Samcho, the explanation of that in many medical literatures is different from that in Hwangdineijing, that is to say, the cause of diseases related to hyperactivity of Sanghwa became the main conditions of pathogenesis about Samcho while the blockage of qi stream through Samcho. Conclusions : The clinical expression of Samcho pathogenesis is fever with perspiration that means exhaustion of body fluid not only general fever of whole body.

Objectives : Through the comparative study on cases of acupuncture therapy in Sanhanlun(傷寒論), it would be expected to comprehend the theory of acupuncture for external contraction(外感). Methods : It has been done to analyse provisions of Sanghanlun, Hwangdineijing(黃帝內經), Nanjing(難經) related with acupuncture, and to compare the symptoms reported in Hwangdimingtangjing(黃帝明堂經) to Shanghanlun. Results : Most symptoms of the acupuncture points in Shanghanlun correspond with those in Hwangdimingtangjing. Visceral manifestation theory could explain the reason why some acupuncture points in Shanghanlun were selected, but Meridian theory could in 1 case only. Some provisions show that acupuncture was treated to increase the effect of medicines and the others to replace medicines. Conclusions : The main principle to select acupuncture in Shanghanlun were the effectiveness of each point and visceral manifestation. Acupuncture was tried to increase or replace the effect of medicines.

The four taboos in using Baekhotang as explained by Odang(吳瑭), are identical to the standard symptoms of Severe Exterior Heat Syndrome[表熱重證]. There are similarities between Sanghan and Onbyeong in using Baekhotang(白虎湯). But there are significant differences between Sanghan and Onbyeong in explaining the pathogenesis of human body. In pattern identification by the Wi-Gi-Yoeng-Hyeol(衛氣營血) system, body fluid[津液] is the key feature, whereas in that of the Yuk-Gyeong(六經) system, Yanggi(陽氣) is the point. Therefore, we can understand that the standard symptoms of pattern identification are slightly different. However, that Sanghan and Onbyeong present different explanations does not mean that the disease itself strictly 'belong' to one category. They are different approaches, not explanations for two different subjects. Therefore, Sanghan and Onbyeong should be studied in line with this concept.

Objective : In this study, I would like to emphasize the importance of context in studying quoted verses in "Donguisusebowon". Method : First, methodology applied in researches on "Donguisusebowon" quotations were organized. Next, in order to examine the effects of the aforementioned methodology, several quoted verses were approached in such method. Result : First, the verse, 'In cases of Dry-Feces(大便秘燥), Rheum undulatum Linne(大黃) could be used in the medicinal formulas and treatment, but not Croton tiglium Linne(巴豆)'. In the texts of Shanghanlun(傷寒論), Zhang, Zhongjing(張仲景) prescribed Sammulbaeksan(三物白散) in treating 'Gyeolhyung due to Excessive cold'(寒實結胸), which includes Croton tiglium Linne(巴豆). From this, we can see that Lee, jema's statement in "Donguisusebowon" is false. Conclusion : Lee, jema's mistake was that he accepted Shanghanlun(傷寒論) as quoted in "Donguibogam", instead of the original text, accidently quoting Heo, jun's source of reference.
Objectives : Records on medicinal liquor in medical texts and major culinary texts of the Joseon period were examined and compared to identify their relevance. Methods : Liquors that include medicinal ingredients in the Donguibogam, Sangayorok, Suunjapbang, Eumsikdimibang, and the Gyuhapchongseo and Juchan were collected. Similarities and differences of each entry were compared following thorough examination. Results : Direct citing of medical texts or specialized medical descriptions in the culinary texts or descriptions of medical liquor composed of various medicinals close to formula compositions are evidences that medical knowledge influenced culinary texts. Conclusions : Descriptions on medicinal liquor in medical texts and culinary texts could be said to have influenced each other.
Objectives : This study aims to increase efficiency of the prescription similarity analysis method that uses drug composition ratio. Methods : The controlled experiment compared result generation time, generated data quantity, and accuracy of results between previous and new analysis method on the 12,598 formulas and 61 prescription groups. Results : The control group took 346 seconds on average and generated 768,478 results, while the test group took 24 seconds and generated 241,739 results. The test group adopted a selective calculation method that only used overlapping data between two formulas instead of analyzing all number of cases. It simplified the data processing process, reducing the quantity of data that is required to be processed, leading to better system speed, as fast as 14.47 times more than previous analysis method with equal results. Conclusions : Efficiency for similarity analysis could be improved by reducing data span and simplifying the calculation processes.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the satisfaction of students who participated in a role play using the syndrome differentiation CPX (Clinical Performance Examination) scenario in Korean Medicine Classics class, and to find out whether the results were correlated with self-assessment of treatment skills and subject achievement. Methods : In the Korean Medicine Classics class in the first semester of 2022, 44 first-year students in the Department of Korean Medicine completed theoretical education and formative evaluation on the subject of internal damage fever, and then role-played using CPX scenarios. Among them, 41 students consented to the study. Students who agreed to the study answered the satisfaction questionnaire consisting of 13 questions in 2 areas on learning methods and effects, and self-evaluation was conducted according to the evaluation items of medical technology consisting of 23 questions. Satisfaction and self-assessment results were analyzed for correlation, and additionally, correlation with Korean Medicine Classics subject achievement was also analyzed. Results : The result of student satisfaction with the role play was 4.87±0.06 while the result of student self-assessment of clinical skill was 4.73±0.16. The student satisfaction with the role play showed statisticallysignificant correlations with the self-assessment of clinical skill and quiz score of Korean Medical Classics while it did not show correlations with the total score of Korean Medical Classics and paper test. Also, the self-assessment of clinical skill did not show correlations with the total score of Korean Medical Classics, paper test, and quiz. Conclusions : Even though the students who performed the role play using the syndrome differentiation based CPX scenario highly assessed their clinical skill and showed high satisfaction, it did not show significant correlation with the achievement of Korean Medical Classics.
Objective : Malaria(瘧疾) is a disease that's main symptom is paroxysm - a cyclical occurrence of sudden coldness followed by rigor and then fever. Since the introduction of the cause and mechanism of malaria(瘧疾) in the "Suwen(素問)", including Cold malaria(寒瘧), Warm malaria(溫瘧), Heat malaria(癉瘧) and Wind malaria(風瘧), there has been over 20 different kinds of malaria, each of which are introduced in multiple medical texts. Method : Through comparison between "Suwen(素問)" and other medical texts, the categories, causes and mechanisms of malaria can be analysed and organized to overview the whole feature of it. Results & Conclusion : External pathogens of malaria(瘧疾) are wind(風), cold(寒), summerheat (暑), dampness(濕), miasmic toxin(瘴), pestilence(疫), ghost(鬼). Internal pathogens of malaria(瘧疾) are dietary irregularities(飮食不節), overexertion and fatigue(勞倦), phlegm(痰), seven emotion(七情). Malaria can be categorized into four groups according to the pathological mechanism that leads to paroxysm. They are latency of disease(伏氣), external contraction(外感), internal damage(內傷), and combination of disease(合病). Malaria-Paroxysm(瘧疾發作) occurs when the three following factors collide strongly : defense qi(衛氣), latent qi(伏邪) and external pathogen(新邪). When collision of the three factors takes place in the interior(裏), the body experiences chills. When it takes place in the exterior(表), the body experiences fever. The cyclical occurrence of Malaria-Paroxysm follows the circulation of defense qi.
Objectives : The paper uses recitation test, one of the study and evaluation methods in the Korean Medical Classics, to provide a basis upon which thoughts can be given to the education of Korean Medicine, and furthermore the essence of education itself. Methods : 1. The paper reviewed how recitation tests were performed in Goryeo and Joseon. 2. The paper introduces the methods of applying recitation test to the education of the Korean Medical Classics and their results. The paper furthermore discussed possible improvements. 3. The paper pondered on the traditional aspects of the significances (principles) of recitation tests and their cognitive neuroscience aspects. Results : 1. The imperial examinations for medical officers during Goryeo and Joseon both performed recitation tests, and the subject of these tests were given more weight than other subjects. 2. Recitation test is a form of education that revolves around the learners. It requires a detailed plan of execution for it to be effective. 3. The significances (principles) of recitation test are reviewed from the aspect of cognitive neuroscience, and the deductions from the traditional aspects are made into "conceptual abstract, come to things & run out knowledge, and flash back." Conclusions : Recitation test was the humanity's way of conserving and conveying knowledge & wisdom from the times before the invention of letters. This method is the oldest education method of acquiring concepts that are generalized and made abstract through indirect experiences. This method is still effective today. In the education of the Korean Medical Classics, this method was used to supplement the public education method and create an education method that revolves around individual learner in a way that utilizes the strengths of education in apprenticeship.
