  • Lots of roadway tunnel have been almost constructed in forms of closely-spaced tunnel in korea. If closely-spaced tunnel is not constructed at a sufficient distance between tunnels, the problem of stability can occur. However, the case that can not secure a sufficient distance between tunnels can occur due to a difficulty in buying a lot and an issue of popular complaint and environmental disruption. Generally, tunnels are not influenced by each other when a center distance between tunnels is two times longer than tunnel diameter under the complete elastic ground and five times under the soft ground. In this study, the scaled model tests of closely-spaced tunnel by using homogeneous material were performed and induced displacements were measured around the tunnel openings during excavation. The influence of distance between tunnels on the behavior of closely-spaced tunnel was investigated.

  • The model tests of short pile with very small pile length/diameter(L/D) were performed in this paper. Varying the pile diameter, length, and the lateral loading point, the lateral resistance and behavior of very short pile were studied in this model tests. The experimental and analytical results are as follows. The lateral ultimate resistance of short pile in sands was the maximum at the point of h/L=0.75, regardless of pile length/diameter(L/D). As the pile diameter is larger, the lateral ultimate resistance of pile with L/D=1 decreases a little and the lateral resistance increases according to the ratio of pile length/diameter. As the lateral loads are acting on the pile, the displacement of pile head is maximum at the pile top of h/L=0, but minimum at the middle point of the pile. And if the loading point is under the middle of pile, the displacement of pile head occurs oposite in the loading direction, but its magnitude is very small.

  • Shotcrete is NATM technique after tunnel excavation as major tunnel support for ground stability, curtail of execution period and reduction of execution expenses instead of general lining method. It is trend using constantly shotcrete lining. This high-strength shotcrete is require to use as constantly shotcrete lining. This brought out the solution of environmental pollution and harmfulness about human. Accordingly, in this study Specimens of strength measurement was made to develop shotcrete possible to develop in early materials with Cement Mineral Accelerator as NATM method construction. It's compared with existing shotcrete material, Unconfined Compression test, flexural strength test were experimented. The fish poison test was experimented to evaluate an influence of environment. On results of test, Unconfined Compressive Strength and flexural strength was equivalent with 28-day strength of existing material. On results of fish poison evaluation research subject material was founded environmentally friendly for existing shotcrete.

  • In this study, a series of CID tests were performed on gypsum-cemented specimens to determin the cohesion intercept and the confined stress start to break the cementation bonds (${q_i}'_{(BP)}$). And the relationships between the unconfined compressive strength ($q_{ucs}$) and cohesion intercept or ${q_i}'_{(BP)}$ were investigated. From the experiments, it was concluded that the friction angle of cemented sands is not affected by cementation while the cohesion intercept of cemented sands significantly influenced by cementation and is constant before ${q_i}'_{(BP)}$. By an analytical interpretation, the failure strength of cemented specimen could be represented by summation of the failure strength of uncemented specimen and the unconfined compressive strength of cemented one. And the cohesion intercept of cemented specimen was represented as a linear relation with the unconfined compressive strength. Those analytical values of failure strength and cohesion intercept almost coincided with the experimental values of those. In addition, the ${q_i}'_{(BP)}$ also could be related with unconfined compressive strength linearly.

  • For the cassion type of breakwater under the condition of large wave loads, stability about lateral movement of breakwater was investigated by performing centrifuge model experiments. Prototype of breakwater was modelled by scaling down to centrifuge model and the soft ground reinforced with grouting was also reconstructed in the centrifuge model experiments. Sandy ground beneath breakwater was prepared with a soil sampled in field so that identical value of internal friction angle could be obtained. Centrifuge model experiments were carried out to reconstruct the construction sequence in field. Lateral static wave load was applied to the model caisson after the final stage of construction sequence was rebuilt and the measured lateral movement of caisson was compared with allowable value by the code to assess the stability about lateral movement of the breakwater.

  • The mechanical behavior of granular soils is affected by particle bonding including natural cementation. This study addresses a simple model of small strain stiffness and salt concentration based on wave measurements of salt-cemented particulate media. Published models of artificially cemented soils with different curing methods and several types of cementation agents are reviewed. Glass beads with the median diameter of D50 = 0.5mm are prepared in rectangular cells using the water-pluviated method in salt water with different concentrations. Piezo disk elements and bender elements embedded in the cell are used for the measurements of compressional and shear waves. The relationships between elastic wave velocities and salt concentration show an exponential function. The measured small strain stiffness matches well the predicted small strain stiffness based on micromechanics for simple cubic monosized sphere particles. This study demonstrates that the salt concentration in salt-cemented specimen may be evaluated by using elastic wave velocities.

  • Various soil characteristics for safe construction is necessary to understand the tests using the samples collected, and head in place an energy evaluation is conducted to evaluate the ground. In-Situ testing ground, Rod length and around the intrusive when the energy loss due to friction has been measured only in the head. Abstract The purpose of this agreement when increasing contract area of Rod agreement to transform the energy attenuation and the attenuation at the energy being delivered to evaluate. To this end, the same material used in the field test, laboratory test to apply Rod diameter and length have been considered, designed to perform the experiment was to use the Rod. Energy that raised at head of Rod, was increased and decreased by contracting type. The energy difference occurs in the head with the tip that shows the energy rating may be required at the tip is showing. Abstract The energy evaluation for the Rod field test to be at the basic sources and will be able to calculate the trusted information are measured from the tip.

  • In this study, the behavior of underground pipeline subjected to pile driving is examined using the verified finite element model based on the field experiment. Young's modules of surface soil is varied and elastic modulus of the other soil layer is fixed. The pile driving force model proposed by Mounir E. Mabsout in 1999 was used and it was functions of time and of force. The forcing function applied on this study considers the kinetic energy of ram located at 1.2m height with 7 tonf. The 3-layered pipeline is composed of steel(inner) pipe, PUR(Polyurethane Resin, filler) and HDPE(outer) pipe, and the length/diameter of main steel pipe is 20m/0.8m(O.D). It is used for district heating pipes in Korea. The results are expressed in terms of Von Mises stress, displacement, and vibration velocity for each soil condition. From the results of the analyses, PUR which is originally intended as a thermal insulation of inner pipe shows performance as a structural member which distributes external pressure.

  • Today, In-Situ testing for measureing geotechnical characterization are divided by Cone Penetration Test, Standard Penetration Test and Dilatometer Test, and will vary depending on soil conditions have been applied (Korea Geotechnical Engineering, 2006). However, these methods can be applied on sand or soft clay soil. Now, many studies are progressing for evaluating the stiffness characteristic of rocks and IGM. and Nam moon suk(2006) did Texas Cone Penetrometer Test for designing field penetration pile intruded at rocks and IGM. but, reliability of Texas Cone Penetration Test has confidence limits because TCPT is testing in Texas centrally, and energy dose not measure Woojin Lee, etc. (1998) did calculate Standard Penetration Test Hammer's dynamic energy efficiency by using dongjaeha analyzer. this research, we installed strain gage and accelerometer for supply existing equipment, and develop MCP that can use variety soils. this thesis, we measured energy at head and tip of Rod for evaluating energy that transport at free falling. As a result, Energy differences are occurred at head and tip of Rod.
