  • Calculating minimal cut sets is a typical quantification method used to evaluate the top event probability for a fault tree. If minimal cut sets cannot be calculated or if the accuracy of the quantification result is in doubt, the Monte Carlo method can provide an alternative for fault tree quantification. The Monte Carlo method for fault tree quantification tends to take a long time because it repeats the calculation for a large number of samples. Herein, proposal is made to improve the quantification algorithm of a fault tree with circular logic. We developed a top-down iteration algorithm that combines the characteristics of the top-down approach and the iteration approach, thereby reducing the computation time of the Monte Carlo method.

  • In this article, a recording system for nuclear radiation detection by means of circular radial deflection as an instrument and its applications are described. In the electronic circuit of the instrument, the linearity of a deflected pulse on a circular sweep is especially contribed by employing a multiplying circuit, not to mention the one of a circular time base itself. A sequence of random pulses was recorded on a circular sweep of the CRT screen by means of one cycle unblanking due to a logic circuit. It seems that the intrument is suitable for measuring a decay curve of a short-lived nuclide and its pulse spectrum

  • Parallel optical arithmetic techniques have been developed using the correlation property of optical phase conjugate wave generated by degenerated four wave-mixing. In this paper, conventional rectangular-type coded pattern used for optical logic system is replaced by circular one for effective beam coupling in a photorefractive $BaTiO_3$ material. By adequately adjusting the distance between circular-type pixels of the input pattern and grouping the correlated output, optical binary half addition/subtraction, binary multiplication and, matrix-matrix computation are demonstrated.

  • This paper describes the use of fuzzy control and decision making to simulate the control of traffic flow at an intersection. To show the value of fuzzy logic as an alternative method for control of traffic environments. A traffic environment includes the lanes to and from an intersection, the intersection, vehicle traffic, and signal lights in the intersection. To test the fuzzy logic controller, a computer simulation was constructed to model a traffic environment. A typical cross intersection was chosen for the traffic environment, and the performance of the fuzzy logic controller was compared with the performance of two different types of conventional control. In the hardware verifications, fuzzy logic was used to control acceleration of a model train on a circular path. For the software experiment, the fuzzy logic controller proved better than conventional control methods, especially in the case of highly uneven traffic flow between different directions. On the hardware si e of the research, the fuzzy acceleration control system showed a marked improvement in smoothness of ride over crisp control.

  • The approach and landing phase of a re-entry vehicle is composed of Steep Glideslope phase, Circular Flare phase, Flare Maneuver phase. The trajectory planning algorithm with geometric parameters is studied in this paper for on-board trajectory planning. This algorithm generate reference trajectory rapidly considering safe landing of re-entry vehicle. In this paper, the Mamdani Fuzzy PD type controller for longitudinal and lateral control is designed which has robustness of nonlinear system. In addition, the simulation is performed including initial downrange and crossrange errors, and the results shows that the proposed fuzzy logic controller has good performance.

  • The interpolator is usually built in hardware (logic circuitry), and the interpolator fabricated in a single LSI chip is recently made use of in most NC controllers, making the system more compact. However, the LSI interpolator not only has the technical difficulties but also requires high cost, in its fabrication. To solve these problems, we tried to find the method of interpolation by software, and succeeded in developing a program which, executed by INTEL's 8085 microprocessor, can distribute the input pulses of up to 4.0 [Kpps] for the linear interpolation and 3.0 [Kpps] for the circular interpolation. This paper presents the algorithm used to reduce the execution time and the flow chart of the interpolation program, and also shows the possibility of software interpolation. The interpolation program designed in assembly language is presented in the appendix.

  • A fuzzy controller of a manipulator with artificial rubber muscles is proposed. The fuzzy logic controller as a compensator is described to control the trajectory tracking of a -two link manipulator, where computed torque control method has already assumed to be applied. We shows that the fuzzy compensator with a simple adaptive scaling technique is effective for the robust control when there exist model uncertainties and/or untuned feedback gains. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is illustrated by some experimental results for a circular path tracking.

  • According to David Hume, a deductive demonstration for inductive inference is not possible, because inductive inference is not deductive; and an inductive demonstration for inductive inference is not possible either, because such a demonstration is circular. Thus, on his view, there is no way of justifying inductive inference. Ever since Hume raised this problem of induction, a fair number of philosophers have tried to solve it. Nevertheless there is still no solution which is plausible enough to receive wide endorsement. According to Wilfrid Sellars, we cannot justify inductive inference by any theoretical reasoning; we can vindicate it only by a certain sort of practical reasoning. In this paper, I defend this Sellarsian proposal by developing and explaining it.

  • This essay attempts to suggest a third way to interpret probabilities based on diagnoses of weaknesses and strengths of the objective and the subjective interpretations. While the objective interpretations capture important intuitions in employing probability, it can provide the definitions of probability only in a circular way. Although the subjective interpretations seem to avoid this problem, it also fails to understand how one can extract certain information from the ignorance of a given system. It will be suggested that these problems can be bypassed if we consider probabilities as theoretical structure, which provide significant generalizations about the world.

  • H.264 video coding standard is widely used due to the high compression rate and quality. The motion compensation is the most time-consuming and complex unit in the H.264 decoder. The performance of the motion compensation is determined by the calculation of pixel interpolation and management of the reference pixels. The reference pixels read from external memory using efficient memory management for data reuse is necessary along with the high performance interpolators. We propose the architecture of a motion compensation unit for H.264 decoders. It is composed of 2-dimensional circular register files, a motion vector predictor and high performance interpolators with low complexity. The 2-dimensional circular register files reuse reference pixel data as much as possible, and feed reference pixel data to interpolators without any latency and complex logic circuits. We design a motion compensation unit and a intra-prediction unit and integrate them into a prediction unit and verify the operation and the performance.
