Discrete topology optimization processes of structures start from an initial design domain which is described by the topology of constant material densities. During optimization procedures, the structural topology changes in order to satisfy optimization problems in the fixed design domain, and finally, the optimization produces material density distributions with optimal topology. An introduction of initial holes in a design domain presented by Eschenauer et at. has been utilized in order to improve the optimization convergence of boundary-based shape optimization methods by generating finite changes of design variables. This means that an optimal topology depends on an initial topology with respect to topology optimization problems. In this study, it is investigated that various optimal topologies can be yielded under constraints of usable material, when partial solid phases are deposited in an initial design domain and thus initial topology is finitely changed. As a numerical application, structural topology optimization of a simple MBB-Beam is carried out, applying partial circular solid phases with varying sizes to an initial design domain.

In the present study, the wave excitation forces acting on an array of porous circular cylinders are examined based on diffraction problems. To calculate the wave forces, the fluid domain is divided into three regions i.e. a single exterior region, N interior regions and N beneath regions, and the diffraction in each fluid region is expressed by an eigenfunction expansion method with using 3-dimension liner potential theory (Williams and Li, 2000). Especially, the present method is extended to the case of an array of truncated porous circular cylinders to calculate the heave forces as well as surge and sway forces. To verify this method, the numerical results obtained by eigenfunction are compared with these results obtained by higher order boundary element method (Choi et al., 2000). The numerical results obtained by this study are in good agreement with those results. By changing the numbers of porous circular cylinders, the angle of incident wave and the porosity rate of circular cylinders, the wave excitation forces such as surge, sway and heave on an array of truncated porous circular cylinders are investigated.

In this paper, we designed and manufactured the Ku-band circular waveguide antenna to do wireless communication with a ground radar as on-board antenna of missile. Using the MATLAB and the HFSS, we designed the circular polarizer which has a characteristic of circular polarization and broadband using the capacitive pin method, the feeder to feed coaxial line to circular waveguide, and a stopper to prevent a conductor material from being inserted. Then we simulated the designed antenna using the HFSS, obtained the gain and the radiation pattern. Because of a difficulty of manufacture, we established a manufacture process procedure. Antenna is manufactured with this procedure, test results of the manufactured antenna are the axial ratio of 1.37 ~ 1.72, the 3 ㏈ beamwidth of $72.23^{\circ}{\sim}78.54^{\circ},$ and the gain of 3.26 ~ 4.61 ㏈ within frequency band. We knew that these results are similar with simulation results. Also, we confirmed that the manufactured antenna is satisfied with requirement conditions through performance test, environmental test and flight test.

The large eddy simulation (LES) of the flow around a circular cylinder is not only affected by the sub-grid scale (SGS) model but also by the grid resolution of the computational domain. To study the influence of different grids on the LES results, the LES simulations of the flow around a circular cylinder with different grids at Reynolds number (Re) = 3900 was performed. A circular computational domain with different radial growth rates and circumferential and spanwise grid numbers was adopted for the simulations. Meanwhile, the aerodynamic forces, wind pressure coefficients, mean and instantaneous flow fields, and the effect of grid resolution on them were comprehensively analyzed. The results indicate that the lift coefficient, wind pressure coefficient, and recirculation length are significantly affected by the radial growth rate of the grid and the circumferential grid number. The spanwise grid number has a significant influence on the three-dimensionality of the flow and plays an important role in velocity fluctuations in the wake region. Nevertheless, the aerodynamic coefficients and recirculation length are not sufficiently sensitive to the grid number in the spanwise direction. By comparing the results, it can be concluded that suitable and reliable LES results can be obtained when the radial growth rate is 1.03 or 1.05, the circumferential grid number is 160, 200, or 240, and the spanwise grid number is 64. A radial growth rate 1.05, circumferential grid number 160, and spanwise grid number 64 are recommended to reduce the grid amount and further improve the efficiency.

Acoustic holography makes it possible to reconstruct the acoustic field based on the measurement of the pressure distribution on the hologram surface. Because of the merit that one can obtain an entire three-dimensional wave field from the data recorded on a two-dimensional surface, the holographic method has been widely studied. Being an experimental method, holography has an unavoidable error which is generate by sampling in space and frequency domain and finite aperture size. Its magnitude is dependent on the space and frequency domain and finite aperture size. Its magnitude is dependent on the shape of hologram surface, acoustic holography may be classified into four types of holography : rectangular type planeholography, circular type plane holography, cylindrical holography and spherical holography. In this paper, four types of holography are studied by modal summation method. Numerical simulation is performed using a monopole source with varying parameters to find out effects to the estimation error in each holography. Experiments of circular type plane holography and cylindrical holography explain strong relation between the shape of hologram surface and the acoustic field.
This paper describes a simple method for evaluating the design wind loads for the structural frames of circular flat roofs with long spans. The dynamic response of several roof models were numerically analyzed in the time domain as well as in the frequency domain by using wind pressure data obtained from a wind tunnel experiment. The instantaneous displacement and bending moment of the roof were computed, and the maximum load effects were evaluated. The results indicate that the wind-induced oscillation of the roof is generally dominated by the first mode and the gust effect factor approach can be applied to the evaluation of the maximum load effects. That is, the design wind load can be represented by the time-averaged wind pressure multiplied by the gust effect factor for the first mode. Based on the experimental results for the first modal force, an empirical formula for the gust effect factor is provided as a function of the geometric and structural parameters of the roof and the turbulence intensity of the approach flow. The equivalent design pressure coefficients, which reproduce the maximum load effects, are also discussed. A simplified model of the pressure coefficient distribution is presented.
The present study is concerned with the thermoelastic interactions in a two dimensional axisymmetric problem in transversely isotropic thermoelastic solid using new modified couple stress theory without energy dissipation and with two temperatures. The Laplace and Hankel transforms have been employed to find the general solution to the field equations. Concentrated normal force, normal force over the circular region, concentrated thermal source and thermal source over the circular region have been taken to illustrate the application of the approach. The components of displacements, stress, couple stress and conductive temperature distribution are obtained in the transformed domain. The resulting quantities are obtained in the physical domain by using numerical inversion technique. The effect of two temperature varying by taking different values for the two temperature on the components of normal stress, tangential stress, conductive temperature and couple stress are depicted graphically.
The present research deals with the multi-dual-phase-lags thermoelasticity theory for thermoelastic behavior of transversely isotropic thermoelastic thin circular plate The Laplace and Hankel transform techniques have been used to find the solution of the problem. The displacement components, stress components, and conductive temperature distribution are computed in the transformed domain with the radial distance and further determined in the physical domain using numerical inversion techniques. The effect of rotation and two temperature are depicted graphically on the resulting quantities.
Chirality is ubiquitous in physics and biology from microscopic to macroscopic phenomena, such as fermionic interactions and DNA duplication. In photonics, chirality has traditionally represented differentiated optical responses for right and left circular polarizations. This definition of optical chirality in the polarization domain includes handedness-dependent phase velocities or optical absorption inside chiral media, which enable polarimetry for measuring the material concentration and circular dichroism spectroscopy for sensing biological or chemical enantiomers. Recently, the emerging field of non-Hermitian photonics, which explores exotic phenomena in gain or loss media, has provided a new viewpoint on chirality in photonics that is not restricted to the traditional polarization domain but is extended to other physical quantities such as the orbital angular momentum, propagation direction, and system parameter space. Here, we introduce recent milestones in chiral light-matter interactions in non-Hermitian photonics and show an enhanced degree of design freedom in photonic devices for spin and orbital angular momenta, directionality, and asymmetric modal conversion.
Effect of computational domain size in simulating of periodic obstacle flow has been investigated for the flow past tube banks. Reynolds number, defined by freestream velocity (U) and cylinder diameter (d), was fixed as 200, and center-to-center distance (P) as 1.5d. In-line square array was considered. Drag coefficient, lift coefficient and Strouhal number were calculated depending on domain size. Circular cylinders were implemented on a Cartesian grid system by using an immersed boundary method. Boundary condition is periodic in both streamwise and lateral directions. Previous studies in literature often use a square domain with a side length of P, which contains only one cylinder. However, this study reveals that size is improper. Especially, RMS values of flow-induced forces are most sensitive to the domain size.
