EMI Noise Source Reduction of Single-Ended Isolated Converters Using Secondary Resonance Technique

  • Aiming at the problems of large dv/dt and di/dt in traditional single-ended converters and high electromagnetic interference (EMI) noise levels, a single-ended isolated converter using the secondary resonance technique is proposed in this paper. In the proposed converter, the voltage stress of the main power switch can be reduced and the voltage across the output diode is clamped to the output voltage when compared to the conventional flyback converter. In addition, the peak current stress through the main power switch can be decreased and zero current switching (ZCS) of the output diode can be achieved through the resonance technique. Moreover, the EMI noise coupling path and an equivalent model of the proposed converter topology are presented through the operational principle of the proposed converter. Analysis results indicate that the common mode (CM) EMI noise and the differential mode (DM) EMI noise of such a converter are deduced since the frequency spectra of the equivalent controlled voltage sources and controlled current source are decreased when compared with the traditional flyback converter. Furthermore, appropriate parameter selection of the resonant circuit network can increase the equivalent impedance in the EMI coupling path in the low frequency range, which further reduces the common mode interference. Finally, a simulation model and a 60W experimental prototype of the proposed converter are built and tested. Experimental results verify the theoretical analysis.

  • In recent years, permanent magnets such as IPM (Interior Permanent Magnet) motors or SPM (Surface Permanent Magnet) motors that can obtain high efficiency and power density by inserting rare earth permanent magnets into the rotor are used. Research on the used electric motor is being actively conducted. Since it uses a permanent magnet, it has the advantage of high efficiency and high power density compared to reluctance motors and induction motors, but by inserting a permanent magnet into the rotor, it operates at high speeds and decreases reliability due to demagnetization of the permanent magnets, and increases the cost of rare earth metals. In this paper, in accordance with the development of future technology that can replace rare-earth permanent magnet motors and technological preoccupation of rare-earth reduction type motors and de-rare-earth motors, switched reluctance motors that do not require permanent magnets (Switched Reluvtance Motors) Motor, SRM) to drive driving control. Using the 3-phase SRM library provided by the PSIM simulation program, we will study the driving and control system modeling of SRM using the rotor position information sensor.

Implementation of Wireless Power Transmission System for Multiple Receivers Considering Load Impedance Variation (부하 임피던스 변화를 고려한 복수 수신기 무선전력전송 구현)

  • This paper proposes a single-input multiple-output (SIMO) self-resonant wireless power transmission system for transmitting power to multiple receivers and the characteristics are simulated and measured. A 600 mm diameter transmission single loop, a 600 mm diameter helical transmission resonant coil, an external diameter 900 mm planar spiral reception resonant coil, and an $80{\times}60mm^2$ flat plate square coil as a receiver are used to form a wireless power transmission system 600 mm away with the table structure. For optimal characteristics, the wireless power transmission coils are designed by EM simulation and equivalent circuit analysis, and the characteristics are simulated and measured. The variation of the efficiency with distance from the center of the spiral resonant coil is analyzed and the measured efficiency is 57% for one receiver and for the two receivers, the efficiency is 37% for each receiver.

Parametric Crack and Flexural Strength Analyses of Concrete Slab For Railway Structures Using GFRP Rebar (GFRP 보강근을 적용한 교량용 콘크리트 도상슬래브의 균열 및 휨강도 변수 해석)

  • In this paper, we presented an optimized crack and flexural strength analysis of a glass-fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar, used as reinforcements for in-site railway concrete slabs. The insulation performance of a GFRP rebar has the advantage of avoiding the loss of signal current in an audio frequency (AF) track circuit. A full-scale experiment, and three-dimensional finite element simulation results were compared to validate our approaches. Parametric numerical results revealed that the diameters and arrangements of the GFRP rebar had a significant effect on the flexural strength and crack control performances of the concrete track slabs. The results of this study could serve as a benchmark for future guidelines in designing more efficient, and economical concrete slabs using the GFRP rebar.

  • This paper presents the current-fed type LLC AC to DC high frequency resonant converter capable of ZVZCS(Zero-Voltage and Zero-Current Switching). The current-fed type LLC AC to DC high frequency resonant converter proposed in this paper could operate not only in ZVS(Zero-Voltage Switching) operation by connecting the resonant capacitors(C1, C2) in parallel across the switching devices but also in ZCS(Zero-Current Switching) operation of the secondary diode. The ZVS and ZCS operations can reduce the turn-on loss of the switching devices and the turn-off loss of the secondary diodes, respectively. The circuit analysis of current-fed type LLC AC to DC high frequency resonant converter proposed in this paper is addressed generally by adopting the normalized parameters. The operating characteristics of proposed LLC AC to DC high frequency resonant converter were also evaluated by using the normalized control parameters such as the normalized control frequency(μ), the normalized load resistor(λ) and so on. Based on the characteristic values through the characteristics of evaluation, an example of the design method of proposed LLC AC to DC high frequency resonant converter is suggested, and the validity of the theoretical analysis is confirmed using the experimental results and PSIM simulation.

Theoretical Heat Flow Analysis and Vibration Characteristics During Transportation of PCS(Power Conversion System) for Reliability (전력변환장치 캐비넷에서의 내부발열 개선을 위한 열유동 분석 및 유통안전성 향상을 위한 진동특성 분석)

  • PCS needs to freely switch AC and DC to connect the battery, external AC loads and renewable energy in both directions for energy efficiency. Whenever converting happens, power loss inevitably occurs. Minimization of the power loss to save electricity and convert it for usage is a very critical function in PCS. PCS plays an important role in the ESS(Energy Storage System) but the importance of stabilizing semiconductors on PCB(Printed Circuit Board) should be empathized with a risk of failure such as a fire explosion. In this study, the temperature variation inside PCS was reviewed by cooling fan on top of PCS, and the vibration characteristics of PCS were analyzed during truck transportation for reliability of the product. In most cases, a cooling fan is mounted to control the inner temperature at the upper part of the PCS and components generating the heat placed on the internal aluminum cooling plate to apply the primary cooling and the secondary cooling system with inlet fans for the external air. Results of CFD showed slightly lack of circulating capacity but simulated temperatures were durable for components. The resonance points of PCS were various due to the complexity of components. Although they were less than 40 Hz which mostly occurs breakage, it was analyzed that the vibration displacement in the resonance frequency band was very insufficient. As a result of random-vibration simulation, the lower part was analyzed as the stress-concentrated point but no breakage was shown. The steel sheet could be stable for now, but for long-term domestic transportation, structural coupling may occur due to accumulation of fatigue strength. After the test completed, output voltage of the product had lost so that extra packaging such as bubble wrap should be considered.

Torque Ripple Reduction Method With Enhanced Efficiency of Multi-phase BLDC Motor Drive Systems Under Open Fault Conditions (다상 BLDC 모터 드라이브 시스템의 개방 고장 시 효율 향상이 고려된 토크 리플 저감 대책)

  • A multi-phase brushless direct current (BLDC) motor is widely used in large-capacity electric propulsion systems such as submarines and electric ships. In particular, in the field of military submarines, the polyphaser motor must suppress torque ripple in various failure situations to reduce noise and ensure stable operation for a long time. In this paper, we propose a polyphaser current control method that can improve efficiency and reduce torque ripple by minimizing the increase in stator winding loss at maximum output torque by controlling the phase angle and amplitude of the steady-state current during open circuit failure of the stator winding. The proposed control method controls the magnitude and phase angle of the healthy phase current, excluding the faulty phase, to compensate for the torque ripple that occurs in the case of a phase open failure of the motor. The magnitude and phase angle of the controlled steady-state current are calculated for each phase so that copper loss increase is minimized. The proposed control method was verified using hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) of a 12-phase BLDC motor. HILS verification confirmed that the increase in the loss of the stator winding and the magnitude of the torque ripple decreased compared with the open phase fault of the motor.

A Study on the Effect of Process Variation on the Performance of Hybrid MOSFET-CNTFET based SRAM (공정 편차가 하이브리드 MOSFET-CNTFET 기반 SRAM의 성능에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구)

  • CNTFET, which is receiving high attention as a next-generation semiconductor candidate due to its higher performance and various utilization than traditional silicon-based semiconductor devices, is having difficulty in commercialization because its unique process deviation such as CNT placement has not yet matured. To overcome this difficulty, numerous studies have been continuously conducted to take advantages of CNTFET and compensate its weakness by implementing circuits, which are less affected by process deviation due to repetitive circuit placement, into MOSFET-CNTFET based hybrid circuits. This paper compares how much the performance of the hybrid SRAM can be changed by semiconductor process variation existing in the traditional MOSFET SRAM or CNTFET SRAM. Simulation results show that, if the CNT density can be maintained between 7 and 9 per 32nm, hybrid SRAM is about 2.6 times and about 1.1 times more robust to process deviation than conventional MOSFET SRAM in read and write operations, respectively.

Design of a Low EMI Data Transmitter for In-Vehicle Communications (낮은 전자기 간섭 특성을 가진 차내 통신을 위한 데이터 송신기 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a low EMI data transmitter employing a delay-locked loop for vehicles. For the low EMI characteristic, the transmitter has been designed to have low slew rate and employs the delay-locked loop to correct the amount of change in the slew rate due to process variations. According to simulation results, the proposed transmitter which the delay-locked loop has smaller slew rate change as compared to the conventional transmitter. The proposed circuit has been designed with a 65nm process technology and the data rate is 20Mbps with a supply voltage of 1.1V. As compared to a conventional transmitter, the proposed transmitter shows that variations of the slew rate become 53.6% lower in a fast condition and 13.07% lower in a slow condition.

A Study on Optimizing Unit Process Ring Pattern Design for High Voltage Power Semiconductor Device Development (고전압 전력반도체 소자 개발을 위한 단위공정 링패턴설계 최적화에 대한 연구)

  • Recently, the global demands for high voltage power semiconductors are increasing across various industrial fields. The use of electric cars with high safety and convenience is becoming practical, and IGBT modules of 3.3 kV and 1.2 kA or higher are used for electric locomotives. Delicate design and advanced process technology are required, and research on the optimization of high-voltage IGBT parts is urgently needed in the industry. In this study, we attempted to design a simulation process through TCAD (technology computer-aid design) software to optimize the process conditions of the fielding process among the core unit processes for an especial high yield voltage. As well, the prior circuit technology design and a ring pattern with a large number of ring formation structures outside the wafer similar to the chip structure of other companies were constructed for 3.3 kV NPT-IGBT through a unit process demonstration experiment. The ring pattern was designed with 21 rings and the width of the ring was 6.6 ㎛. By changing the spacing between patterns from 17.4 ㎛ to 35.4 ㎛, it was possible to optimize the spacing from 19.2 ㎛ to 18.4 ㎛.
