A New AMOLED Pixel Circuit Employing a-Si:H TFTs for High Aperture Ratio

  • We propose a new pixel design for active matrix organic light emitting diode (AM-OLED) displays using hydrogenated amorphous silicon thin-film transistors (a-Si:H TFTs). The pixel circuit is composed of five TFTs and one capacitor, and employs only one additional control signal line. It is verified by SPICE simulation results that the proposed pixel compensates the threshold voltage shift of the a-Si:H TFTs and OLED.

Design of Temperature Stable FLL Circuit

  • The FLL(frequency locked loop) circuit is used to generate an output signal that tracks an input reference signal. The locking time of FLL is short compared to PLL(phase locked loop) circuit because the output signal of FLL is synchronized only in frequency. Also the FLL is designed to allow the circuit to be fully integrated. In this paper, the temperature stable FLL circuit is designed by using full CMOS transistors. When the temperature is varied from $-20^{\circ}C$ to $70^{\circ}C$, the variation of output frequency is about from -2% to 1.6% from HSPICE simulation results.

  • To prevent such accidents, molded case circuit breakers with improved short-circuit current interrupting capacity are needed. This paper is focused on understanding the interrupting capability with respect to double contact structure and puffer assisted self quenching that are based on the shape of the contact system in the current molded case circuit breaker. The new arc quenching structure for increasing the interrupting capacity of molded case circuit breakers is investigated by simulation and experiment.

  • In this literature, the CMOS current mode fout quadrant differentiator circuit is proposed. The implementation is base on an appropriate input stage that converts the input current into a compressed voltage at the input capacitor ($C_{gs}$) of the CMOS driver circuit. This input voltage use as the control output current which flow to the output node by passing through a MOS active load and use it as the feedback voltage to the input node. Simulation results with level 49 CMOS model of MOSIS are given to demonstrate the correct operation of the proposed configuration. But the gain of the circuit is too low so the output differentiate current also low. The proposed differentiator is expected to find several applications in analog signal processing system.

  • In integrated circuits, protection circuits are required to protect the internal nodes from the harmful ESD(Electrostatic discharge). This paper discusses the characteristics of the circuit components in ESD protection circuitry in order to analyze the ESD phenomina, and the design methodalogy of ESD protection circuits, using test pattern with a variation of the number of diode and transistor. The test devices are fabricated using a 0.8$\mu$m CMOS process. SPICE simulation was also carried out to relate output node voltage and measured ESD voltage. With increasing number of diodes and transistors in protection circuit, the ESD voltage also increases. The ESD voltage of the bi-directional circuit for both input and output was 100-300[V], which in higher than that of only output(uni-directional) circuit. In addition, the ESD protection circuit with the diode under the pad region was useful for the reduction of chip size and parasitic resistance. In this case, ESD voltage was improved to a value about 400[V].

Electromagnetic Actuator with Novel Electric Brake for Circuit Breaker

  • At the stroke end of an electromagnetic circuit breaker, the high speed of the mover makes a huge impact at the contact point, which induces the rebound problem of the mover that causes a breaker failure. Thus, a speed reduction equipment is required to address such problems. This study suggests to use an electric brake reduces the speed at the end of the stroke. The proposed circuit breaker which adopts the electric brake has a variable speed reduction function such that the continued rebound phenomenon ceases to occur. The electric brake is designed by the Finite Element Method (FEM) and the circuit and motion equations are solved using Time Difference Method (TDM). The comparisons between the simulation and experiments demonstrated the usefulness and validity of this study.

  • This paper presents a circuit to generate the current reference signal for single-phase harmonic elemination systems. Some of conventional methods for the current reference signal generation based on neural network algorithms. It requires complex circuitry to implement. the simplest method is to use analog filters. but it is difficult to obtain good current reference signals. So, we propose the harmonic detection circuit using GIC(Generalized Impedance Converter) for the purpose of low cost ,simple circuitry and high performance, Simulation and experimental results verify that the proposed circuit has better harmonic detection performance than conventional circuit.

  • With the wide-spread use of rectifier in electronic equipments, such problems as electronic components failures or equipment disorders have been occurred due to current harmonics. To overcome these problems, power factor correction circuits employing boost converter have been used. The switching stress of boost converter can be reduced by snubber circuit. Recently, research activities in snubber circuits have been directed to energy recovery snubber for improving the efficiency of power converter. In this study, a new passive snubber circuit which can recover trapped snubber energy without added control is proposed for boost converter The control of boost converter with proposed snubber is the same as the conventional one. In addition, the energy recovery circuit can be implemented with a few passive components. The circuit operation is confirmed through simulation.

교류발전기 병렬운전시 과도현상 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Transient Phenomenon Analysis at the instant of Parallel Running for A.C. Generators)

  • It is common knowledge amongst electrical and marine engineers that short-circuit in electrical system may cause large mechanical torque on generator and prime mover However, it is not so widely known that the faulty synchronizing of generators may cause even higher torques than that of short-circuit. In this study, the transient phenomena related to the parallel running of synchronous generators are analyzed and the exact computer simulation method is proposed. In result, maximum transient torque and current take place in case of $120^{\circ}$ voltage angle difference between Master and Slave and that may develop higher torque than the short-circuit according to a condition of synchronizing. When synchronizing in power system using only two generators higher torque and current occur Master, but using multimachine system those occur to Slave. The short-circuit of marine generator does not happen frequently but faulty synchronizing sometimes takes place, therefore, it is necessary for designers to consider these phenomena.

  • A first short stoke current which has a 10/350 ${\mu}s$ waveform is able to be generated by using the crowbar switch in R-L-C circuit. In this paper, a peaking circuit has been applied to make crowbar switch. Operate effective for generating 10/350 ${\mu}s$ waveform. According to simulation with PSpice, we have found that some value of inductance were more effective to trigger a crowbar switch. As a result of experimental test using crowbar switch with peaking circuit, the success rate of triggering crowbar switch is higher than the normal crowbar switch without peaking circuit.
