Research Trends of Fashion Field among Chinese Students in Korea - Focused on Graduate Degree Thesis - (재한 중국인 유학생의 패션 분야 연구 동향 - 대학원 학위논문을 중심으로 -)

  • Since the mid 2000s, a large number of Chinese students have come to Korea to study. This study investigates the research trends of Chinese students studying in the fashion field in Korea. For this study, a total of 235 graduate degree theses on fashion written by Chinese students in Korea (from 1992 to 2014) were collected through the RISS website. Various keywords were used to find the theses, including fashion, clothing and costume. Factors used in the analysis of these theses were the number of theses per year, major of the student, research trend of specific areas and research target area. The results are as follows: Most of the theses were written by Fashion/Clothing majors (141 theses/60% of the total), while other majors - such as Business Administration, International Trade, Economics, Journalism/Broadcasting, and Movie Entertainment - made up the rest (94/40%). The theses researched in the study were focused on a specific field in fashion. Fashion Marketing/Socio-Psychology of Clothing was the most popular field (113/48.1%), and Fashion Design/Aesthetics came in second (87/37.0%). Other topics, such as Costume History, Clothing Construction/Textile Science, Costume Culture, followed. Chinese student's research target area was very limited, with Chinese Study being the most popular area, and Korean and Chinese Comparative Study coming in second.

Nutritional Intake, Body Mass Index and Depression Among Chinese College Students in an Urban Area of South Korea (일 지역 중국인 유학생의 영양소 섭취 상태, 체질량지수와 우울의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate nutritional intake, body mass index (BMI) and depression, and to elucidate depression in relation to nutritional intake and BMI among Chinese college students studying in South Korea. Methods: A descriptive study design was adopted. Data were collected from 170 Chinese college students in South Korea June-August, 2019. In this study, 24-hour dietary records were obtained and BMI was measured. Nutrient intakes were calculated from the dietary records using the CAN-PRO software. Depression was assessed using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Results: Of 170 participants, 19 (11.2%) were underweight and 42 (24.7%) were overweight. Female, single, and non-smoking participants were underweight. There were 97 (57.1%) participants experiencing depression, and 99 (58.2%) consuming lower protein than the recommended nutrient intake resulting in insufficient nutrients. The intake of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, pantothenic acid, calcium, iron, and selenium was much lower than the standard. Depressive participants were significantly greater among the underweight participants and those consuming insufficient nutrients in terms of protein, pantothenic acid, and selenium. Conclusion: An intervention program is required to improve nutritional status, which should be a part of the strategies to manage depression for Chinese college students in South Korea.

  • This paper has done a study of Chinese-Korean cooperative multimedia design education. Sino-Korean school of multimedia was set up by Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES) and Korea Dongseo University in October 2002. We have created "3.5+0.5 Teaching Model". In this model, Chinese and Korea professors take courses together. Firstly, paper points our the Chinese government policy background of Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in running schools and the development of Chinese-Korean cooperative multimedia design education in SUES. Secondly, by analyzing the multimedia design industry to understand the Chinese multi-media design education. Thirdly, paper made in-depth studies for "3.5+0.5 Teaching Model" so as to draw the experience of successes and problems. Through analysis of "Questionnaires for students' learning and living conditions in Dongseo University in 2009" by spss 16.0, paper made a research of mode of "A semester studying in Korea". Finally, paper points out the development direction of Chinese-Korean cooperative multimedia design.

Predictors of Acculturative Stress among Chinese Students in Korea (국내 중국 유학생의 문화적응 스트레스 영향요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the predictors of acculturative stress among Chinese students in Korea. Methods: Between October and December 2009, two hundred one Chinese students from three universities located in Cungnam province, were included in the current study using a questionnaire survey. Data analysis was done using SPSS/WIN 17.0 program. Results: The average score of acculturative stress was $38.50{\pm}6.97$. There were significant differences in acculturative stress according to educational level, economic status, type of residence, speaking skill in Korean, listening skill in Korean, grade point average, satisfaction for studying abroad, and perceived health status. The acculturative stress was significantly correlated with depression, resilience and social support. The strongest predictor of acculturative stress among Chinese students was depression. Conclusions: The findings suggest that developing programs to improve psychological health may provide a buffer against acculturative stress experienced by migrating Chinese students. Furthermore, more studies are needed to explore variables that influence on the international students' acculturation in Korea.

  • Purpose - This study aims to understand the relationship between Chinese local SNS usage and social capital building through Chinese international students in South Korea. A research model that illustrates the relationship between the SNS usage (i.e., intensity, communication and social capital building is proposed. Based on the analysis, this study will provide responses to the question of if SNS really presents the danger of trapping international consumers in their local comfort zone or enhance social capital for the users. Research design, data, and methodology - The survey questionnaire is circulated among the WeChat (a Chinese local SNS) users who are the Chinese international students studying in South Korea. The collected data is analyzed by structural equation method using SPSS and AMOS. Results - Proposed hypotheses of the positive relationships between the attachment of SNS use and both individuals' bridging and bonding social capital are supported. It's also supported that (1) interpersonal communication, (2) interpersonal communication with old friends, and (3) interpersonal communication for making new friends on SNS positively influence individuals' bridging social capital. Conclusions - This paper demonstrates the importance of intensity of WeChat use and interpersonal communication that impact Chinese international students' bridging and bonding social capital on WeChat.

  • The article purpose is 'Reading Chinese translation text as a Korean integrated education for Chinese students'. Although number of foreign students has increased rapidly to the economic growth of Korea, the influence of Korean Wave, and the popularity of Korean popular culture like K-pop at domestic universities but the problems of their curriculum have been found in many places. Korean literary education through novel text has an important place in Korean studies, but literary education is often excluded in Korean language education as a foreign language education. Chinese students already have background knowledge of Korean translation novels through Chinese novels. They can get the learning effect as the Korean language study. Second, they can compared with Korean national violence and Chinese national violence through 'Red Revolution' and understand about Korean-Chinese understanding of the times, social and cultural phenomena, Third, they are able to study the theory of literature itself. also It was the educational purpose pursued by the humanities. Chinese students develop their Korean language skills by studying the Brothers which are translated into Korean, and we can see the similarities and differences of national violence by comparing Korea's '4.19' with China's 'Cultural Revolution' After comparing people, background, dynamics of the space where they are located, we can raise awareness of the historical and social problems of both countries. It is possible to study subjects' memories of space, change of local meaning, the formation of urban space or individual space in the text in the specific space where national violence occurs. In this way, the method of learning Korean integrated education through Brothers of the Chinese translation novels makes an opportunity to look at national violence in the Korean-Chinese space of the 1960s and 1970s. It has a subjective perspective from subordination to the nationality of the modern nation-state. This is an educational effect that can be obtained through reading a Chinese translation novel as a Korean language integrated education.

A Comparative Study of Housing Consciousness and Space Usage between Korean and Chinese College Students (한·중 대학생의 주의식과 공간사용방식 비교연구)

  • Housing can be defined as the vessel containing human life and each country has considerably different form and culture of it. This study aims to understand the society's common cultural values of house selection, decision making, an various housing issues. Consequently, applying a multidisciplinary approach, this project seeks to explore the correlations between people and housing, and between society and housing, to better understand the thought and culture of the housing residents. In order for doing it, adopting cultural value of housing as a tool, a comparative cultural study of housing values in East Asia starting from Korea and China will be conducted. Through such a comparative cultural study, it will be ultimately possible to grasp the locality and uniqueness of specific cultures with more clarity. A survey using questionnaire was conducted on 126 Korean Students and 145 Chinese students who are studying at K University in Seoul on a random sampling basis. The results of survey are as follow. Both Korean and Chinese college students gave higher values on neighborhood environment, convenience of transportation, privacy and safety, and to be given a higher value. On the other hand, they gave lower values on the symbolism of social status. Korean university college students gave higher considerations in the list of , , and than Chinese. Chinese college students gave higher consideration in the list of , and than Koreans. Even though this study has some limitations in generalizing the findings, we can understand the identity of Koreans and Chinese through the comparative study.

Health Status and Resilience according to Acculturation Types among Chinese Students in Korea (국내 중국 유학생의 문화적응 유형에 따른 극복력과 건강상태)

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the health status and reported resilience according to acculturation type among Chinese students in Korea. Methods: The subjects were 386 Chinese students studying in three universities in Chungnam province. The data were collected by standardized questionnaires and SPSS/WIN 15.0 program was used to analyze the data with descriptive statistics, Chi-square, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: Subjects reported the following Acculturation type: integration (26.7%), assimilation (28.5%), separation (32.4%), and marginalization (12.4%). The reported resilience was significantly different according to economic status. The health status was significantly different according to religion and economic status. Acculturation type was significantly different according to age, educational level, length of stay, type of residency and economic status working style. The health status and resilience were significantly different according to acculturation type. Conclusion: The findings suggest that integration of acculturation type is most useful to health status and resilience among Chinese students in Korea. Future studies need to examine acculturation type as coping strategy for foreign students' adaptation.

Influence Factors on Acculturative Stress among Chinese Students Studying in Korea: Focusing on Spiritual Well-Being (중국인 유학생의 문화적응스트레스 영향요인: 영적안녕을 중심으로)

  • This study was conducted to identify factors affecting acculturation stress among Chinese students in Korea. 239 Chinese students in Korea were surveyed using a structured questionnaire from September 1, 2014 to January 31, 2015. The results were as follows. The subjects' acculturation stress was 3.29 out of 5. Their overall spiritual well-being was 3.10 out of 5, and their existential spiritual well-being and religious spiritual well-being were 3.67 and 2.54, respectively. On the other hand, demand for religious activities was 4.37 out of 6. Factors affecting acculturation stress among Chinese students in Korea were age, school year, period of stay in Korea, Korean language skill, demand for religion, and existential spiritual well-being, and their explanatory power was 36.1%. These findings suggest that religious activities need to include programs not only for guiding their lives of faith but also for improving their understanding of Korean culture and their Korean language skill and supporting their practical lives while studying in Korea.
