Scrotal pyocele secondary to gastrointestinal perforation in infants: a case series

  • Pyocele in infants is rarely described in the literature, but it is an emergent condition that requires rapid recognition and treatment to prevent testicular loss. If peritonitis due to gastrointestinal perforation occurs, abdominal contamination may spread through a patent processus vaginalis in an infant, which may lead to pyocele. We report the cases of three infants with scrotal pyocele due to the spread of infection or inflammatory material from the intraperitoneal cavity through a patent processus vaginalis. Two infants were surgically treated, while the other was treated with percutaneous aspiration and intravenous antibiotic administration. Although rare, pyocele should be considered in the differential diagnosis of acute scrotum in infants, especially in infants who previously had peritonitis due to gastrointestinal perforation.

학부모의 유치원복 디자인에 대한 선호 경향 - 부산지역을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Preferences of the Kindergarten Uniform Design for the Parents)

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the preferences of the uniform design for the preschool student's parents. 97 parents became subjects for the research and questionaries were analysed by distribution of frequency and percentage using SPSS V. 18.0. The results of this study could be summarized as followings. First, most of the parents preferred to wearing preschool uniform and expected further improvement in function, material and design. Second, the preferred form was semi formal style consisting of shirt, knit vest, knit cardigan, and coat. Third, the preferred colors were the mixing together bright colors and quiet colors in vivid and pastel tone. Fourth, functional materials to comfort in children's physical activities and to serve convenience in cleaning were preferred. In Conclusion, the preferred design characteristics were combined function to enhance comfort and convenience in children's physical activities with esthetics to present loveliness and modesty as preschool students.

어린이용품의 환경유해인자 표시 현황과 독성자료에 대한 연구 (Investigation of Labeling Status and Toxicity Data of Environmentally Hazardous Substances in Children's Products)

  • Objectives: Children are exposed to various environmental pollutants through contact with children's products. We investigated the KC mark, certification number, and contained substances labeled on children's products through market research and collected the toxicological data on these substances. Methods: The environmentally hazardous substances labeled on children's products (n=6576), including toys (n=2812), personal care products (n=2212), stationary/books (n=1333), and playground equipment (n=219) were examined. For the components that could be identified by CAS number, toxicological data on oral, inhalation, and dermal routes, cancer slope factor, and reference dose were collected. Results: Among the investigated products, KC marks or certification numbers were found for 4557 products (69.3%). Except for cosmetics and cleansers, the material information was labeled on most of the products. The frequency of labeling substance information in toys and stationary/books was low since this information could be omitted if KC certification was obtained. In the target products, 617 substances were identified by CAS number, and polypropylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, and polyester were the most frequently displayed. Chronic toxicity data was found for only 32.4% of individual components, and information on toxicity through the dermal route was also highly limited. Conclusion: Our study suggested that labeling guidelines should be required to identify the environmentally hazardous substances contained in children's products. In addition, the toxicological data on many ingredients in children's products were insufficient. The data gap for toxicity data should be filled for future risk assessment.

학령기 아동의 죽음인식에 관한 탐색적 연구 (A Inquiry of the Perception of Death in School Age)

  • 목적: 본 연구는 학령기 아동의 죽음인식에 대한 탐색적 연구를 통하여 그들의 죽음인식에 대한 주관적 구조와 유형을 탐색하여 학령기 아동에게 죽음인식을 이해하며 효과적인 죽음준비교육 프로그램을 개발 시행하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 시도하였다. 방법: 학령기 아동의 죽음인식에 관한 주관적인 구조와 유형을 탐색할 수 있는 Q방법론을 사용하였다. Q-모집단은 학령기 아동 20명을 대상으로 중립적 면담과 개방형 질문지를 이용하고 문헌연구를 통하여 총 132개의 진술문을 수집하였으며. Q표본은 비 구조화된 방법을 통해 23개의 진술문(Q-표본)을 도출하였다, P표본은 학령기 아동 31명(8세-13세)이었으며 Q카드를 이용하여 Q-분류를 실시하였으며, 수집된 자료는 PC QUANL 프로그램을 사용하여 분석하였다. 결과: 학령기 아동의 죽음인식 유형은 5개의 유형으로 분류되었다. 제 1 유형은 기능적형으로 죽음의 구성요소인 비역행성, 보편성, 비기능성, 인과성에 대한 주관적 인식이 두드러진 유형이었다. 제 2 유형은 사후 세계형으로 기독교의 종교적 배경을 가진 아동들과 직계가족의 죽음을 경험을 했으며 사후세계에 대하여 강한 내세 중심의 죽음인식이 두드러진 유형이었다. 제 3 유형은 종교형으로 죽어서도 가족과 친구들을 지켜볼 수 있다는 믿음이 강하기 때문에 사후세계에 대한 긍정적인 믿음이 확실한 유형이었다. 제 4 유형은 공포형으로 죽음에 대한 공포가 타 유형에 비하여 강한 유형이었다. 제 5 유형은 현실형으로 좋은 죽음에 대한 인식에 강한 긍정적인 동의를 보이는 유형이었다. 결론: 본 연구결과가 주는 간호학적 의의는 다음과 같다. 간호실무면에서 학령기 아동의 죽음인식의 주관성을 이해하는데 있어서 기존의 문헌이나 연구에서 중점적으로 제시하고 있는 죽음의 구성요소에 대한 이해의 차원에서 좀 더 확대되어 학령기 아동이 인지하는 죽음의 정의, 사후세계, 좋은 죽음에 대한 인지수준을 이해하고 유형별 특성에 따라 학령기 아동들의 효과적인 죽음준비교육 프로그램을 개발하는데 유용한 자료로 사용하여, 청소년기에 나타나는 죽음 경시풍조 및 만연된 자살을 예방하고 올바른 삶을 살아갈 수 있도록 밑거름이 되는 역할을 담당 할 것이다. 간호이론 면에서 학령기 아동의 죽음인식의 주관적 구조와 유형별 특성을 규명하고 탐색함으로써 학령기 아동의 죽음인식 모델 구축과 나아가 생명존중의 유용한 자료로 활용될 수 있다. 간호연구 면에서 학령기 아동에게 유형별로 긍정적인 죽음인식과 더 나아가 생명 존중의 측면에서 심리사회적 간호를 제공하기 위한 도구의 개발과 간호중재 전략의 효과를 규명하는 연구에 기여할 수 있다.

열린수학교육의 방향 탐색 (Searching for the Directions of Open Mathematics Education)

  • This study aims to reflect the origin and the meaning of open education and to derive pedagogical principles for open mathematics education. Open education originates from Socrates who was the founder of discovery learning and has been developed by Locke, Rousseau, Froebel, Montessori, Dewey, Piaget, and so on. Thus open education is based on Humanism and Piaget's psychology. The aim of open education consists in developing potentials of children. The characteristics of open education can be summarized as follows: open curriculum, individualized instruction, diverse group organization and various instruction models, rich educational environment, and cooperative interaction based on open human relations. After considering the aims and the characteristics of open education, this study tries to suggest the aims and the directions for open mathematics education according to the philosophy of open education. The aim of open mathematics education is to develop mathematical potentials of children and to foster their mathematical appreciative view. In order to realize the aim, this study suggests five pedagogical principles. Firstly, the mathematical knowledge of children should be integrated by structurizing. Secondly, exploration activities for all kinds of real and concrete situations should be starting points of mathematics learning for the children. Thirdly, open-ended problem approach can facilitate children's diverse ways of thinking. Fourthly, the mathematics educators should emphasize the social interaction through small-group cooperation. Finally, rich educational environment should be provided by offering concrete and diverse material. In order to make open mathematics education effective, some considerations are required in terms of open mathematics curriculum, integrated construction of textbooks, autonomy of teachers and inquiry into children's mathematical capability.

아산시 거주 미취학 아동들의 신체계측 및 영양상태 조사 (Survey on Nutritional Status of Pre-school Children in Asan Measured by Anthropometric and Nutrient Intake Analysis)

  • The nutritional status of pre-school children is important for both physical growth and functional development. This study investigated the anthropometric, nutrient intakes and dietary quality of the pre-school children living in Asan for planning nutritional education program. The dietary intakes were measured by 2-day 24 hr recall recorded by children's mothers and the anthropometric data were collected by measuring children's weights, heights, and percent body fat at Asan Public Health Center. The children were 161 boys and 129 girls aged 5 and 6 years. When children's nutritional status was determined by their anthropometric status (underweight, normal weight and overweight) determined by z-score (normal range between -1.00 and 1.00), only 1.4% of the children belonged to underweight group while 55.7% and 42.9% belonged to normal and overweight groups, respectively. Significantly higher number of children belonged to overweight group for 5 year-olds. No differences were observed in nutrient intakes, nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) and index of nutritional quality (INQ) values among nutritional status groups. Intakes of the most nutrients were adequate, but NAR and INQ of calcium and zinc were low. When nutrient intakes, NAR and INQ were compared by sex or age, all nutrient intakes were appropriate except calcium and zinc intakes of 6 year-olds. Nutrient intakes of 5 years were higher than those of 6 years. The mean of nutrient adequacy ratio (MAR) was 0.85 and mean INQ was 1.51 for all participants. The nutritional management program for pre-school children in Asan would be directed differently by age groups and education material should contain contents educating to consume moderate amount of food for 5 year-olds and to increase intake of foods with mineral nutrients such as calcium and zinc for 6 year-olds.

  • Today, design is considered to have competitive power for a county, so there has been various efforts such as education, publicity and development, etc. Design has long been a national material, and Korea Institute of Design Promotion(KIDP) was inaugurated for the purpose of education, publicity, development and the management, public ownership, support of the contents. Laying stress on the results, however, the design education for children which would be the heart of a world design power is short of both investment and systematic study of education. Now that the design education for children is being active, the cultural spaces are needed to transform the current system focused on schooling and textbooks into the participating, experiential ones by the interesting, educational, and entertaining presentation. The children design exploratorium should make children have their own feelings, and present communicative methods considering children's cognition and behaviors. So, in this study, I'd like to analyze characteristics of the participating and experiential exhibition, and present a children design exploratorium as an alternative plan by the application of adequate methods to the exhibition medium, and the analysis of current exploratoriums' features case by case. The children design exploratorium is the place to maximize the educational effect of design by children's easier and exciting participation, which would offer an unique exhibition place for children to comprehend designs. In this study, on the basis of the alternative presentation of children design exploratoriums, I would refer to the future direction of the 21st century pavilions, the search for the exhibition items for active design education, and the contribution to practical plans.

유아 언어교육에 대한 교사의 인식 및 요구 - 유아 언어교육의 목적, 내용, 방법, 평가 및 요구를 중심으로 (The early childhood teacher's recognition and demand on children's language education - focused on purpose, contents, method, evaluation and the required facts of children's language education)

  • This study had been done to investigate that early childhood teacher's recognition and demand on children's language education and 20 early childhood teachers were interviewed individually who work at state-owned/ public-owned/ private-owned kindergardens residing G, I, and K cities in Jeollabuk-do. First, the purpose of language education was recognized on the formations of essence, concept, expertise, technique and attitude toward language. Second, the contents of language education must be selected by children's experience that they encounter in ordinary life based on oral language and written language. Besides, early childhood teachers strongly felt the necessity of new contents of language education, although they thought of insufficiency of their knowledge on the issue. Third, the method of language education was mainly accomplished by teaching material and objects. Besides, they were aware of looking for new organized teaching methods and also concerned of the importances of teacher's attitude and group formation method. Fourth, the evaluation of language education must be acquired by desirable evaluation method that was based on the recognition of children's unrealistic language capabilities, even though they had recognized the difficulty to do because of knowledge insufficiency. They also showed the tendency of negligence on the evaluation of language education. Fifth, the required facts for early childhood teachers on language education were development and supply of teaching materials, demand on teacher's education and appropriate evaluation method, and cognitive changes on language education by public toward the written language.

Children's Bent Wooden Chair Design Using High Frequency Heat Molding Technique - Focused on Change of Kindergarten Environment -

  • Consumers' expenditure is getting larger on children due to their parents' compensation for increase of double-income family life and decrease of birth rate caused by high economic growth. Increase of demand on children items in the market leads the necessity of development of furniture for children. This study is aimed to design children chairs that meet the environment for children. In this study, the age of children is defined to be 5~7 years old. In order to investigate what causes environment change, this study covers roughly change of environment, change of learning program and use of environment-friendly material. In such scope, we drew out the factors that the chairs for children shall be equipped with. Case studies were done through such drawn factors. The scope of the furniture for children is limited to the chairs for children among the ones made in either Korea or overseas. As a result, we could draw out such keyword of the furniture as storage, mobility, environment-friendly, object style image, preferred color, functionality and safety, based on which we could plan the design and make the final result through high frequency round molding manufacturing process.

체험 마케팅에 의한 직업체험관의 특성에 관한 연구 - 어린이 직업체험 중심으로 - (A Study on the Characteristics of Vocational Experience Facilities in Accordance with Experience Marketing - Focused on Vocational Experience Facilities for Children -)

  • This study has the purpose to review the way of experience element and property of space design appearing in vocational experience space and accumulate basic study material for children's vocational experience space and build systematic and specialized modules. Analysing the marketing elements of experience space through pilot research to arrange frame of analysis, and in a determined range, experimental marketing's property appearing in children's vocational experience center is analysed. This researcher analysed experimental displaying space's function of recognition, emotional, behavior, sense marketing and experimental marketing induced from pilot research on space design expressive elements of experimental marketing when it is applied to spaces through the frame of analysis with the combination of total 8 kind's experience display space function such as investigative, conceptional, aesthetic, entertaining, logical, relative, participating, and comprehensive experience based on 5 vocational experience spaces located in Seoul and Gyeonggi, opened after 2010, being operated at present with more than 500 pyeong (about 1,650 square meter) and targeted for children, after this researcher visited the site directly to make check list with the frame of analysis together with the staff and administrator in charge of vocational experience education. As a conclusion, vocational experience center is a space of edutainment helping children experience various profession more easily to find their interest and to bring up their dream. By analysing current vocational experience center through the element called experimental marketing, current status of vocational experience center could be known. the experience itself in vocational experience center becomes a merchandise. Instead of mere experience, so as to get professional experience and new information, new experiences should be provided by incessant variation and development. This study is to build basic research data for children's vocational experience space, however not only drawing specialty of vocational experience center through the connection of enterprises based on the contents arranged above but also systematic and specialized modules are expected to be built in next researches.
