Objectives Bedding in childcare centers (CCCs) can hold house dust mite (HDM) allergens. This study examined whether HDM allergen levels can be reduced through the distribution of an educational newsletter on bedding control to parents of CCC children in Korea. Methods All 38 CCCs were measured for Der 1 (sum of Der f 1 and Der p 1) concentrations on classroom floors and bedding before the intervention. Educational newsletters on children's bedding control were sent to 21 CCCs by mail, and teachers were asked to distribute the newsletters to the parents of the children (intervention group). The remaining 17 CCCs were not sent newsletters (control group). The measurement of Der 1 concentrations in 38 CCCs was repeated after the intervention. Dust samples were collected with a vacuum cleaner and analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay methods. Results The Der 1 concentrations on the bedding were significantly higher than those on the floors in 38 CCCs at baseline (p < 0.05). Although changes of the Der 1 concentrations for the control group (n=17) were not significant, Der 1 concentrations for the intervention group (n=21) decreased significantly from 2077.9 ng/g dust to 963.5 ng/g dust on the floors and from 3683.9 ng/g dust to 610.4 ng/g dust on bedding (p < 0.05). Conclusions The distribution of educational newsletters on bedding control to parents may be an effective means of controlling HDMs in CCCs.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between an infant teachers' efficacy and job stress by demographic variables to provide the data for improving job conditions and teacher education. For this study, teachers who work in the childcare center located in Gyeongsangbukdo participated in a survey. The questionnaire was distributed from March 11. 2013 to March 29. 2013. The results were as follows; first, an infant class childcare teachers' efficacy was above average and general efficacy was higher than personal efficacy. There were significant differences in personal variable(age, marital status) and working condition(the type of facility, average working hours, average wage, the number of children). Second, an infant class childcare teachers' job stress was above average and that depended on the economy, the infant's parents, work, infant, individual, administration, and co-workers in decreasing order of influence. The job stress was significant differences in personal variable(age, martial status, experience, number of completed training) and working variable(the type of facility, average working hours, the number of children, average wage). These results indicate that improvement in the infant class childcare teachers' efficacy is more important than anything else in promoting their job conditions.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to develop assessment indicators and to verify the validity and reliability of the developed assessment indicators. Methods: A Delphi survey, focus group interviews, and content verification were conducted in order for experts to develop an evaluation index of the strengths of the day care center. A main survey was conducted on 438 daycare center principals and teachers to test their item quality, validity and reliability. Results: The final assessment indicators consisted of three areas, seven assessment criteria, 19 evaluation factors, 41 assessment items and a five-point rubric rating scale. As for the common strengths indicators, there were three assessment areas, five assessment criteria, 12 assessment elements and 22 assessment items. In regard to the selective strengths indicators, there were 3 assessment areas, 5 assessment criteria, 12 assessment elements and 16 assessment items. Conclusion/Implications: The efforts to confirm the strengths of daycare centers are expected to facilitate the identity building of the daycare center itself and for its organizational members to make a contribution to the qualitative improvement of childcare.
The purpose of this study was to explore leacher and peer relationships and child development in two types of early childhood program; halfway kindergarten and full-day childcare. The subjects were 90 four and half year old children and their teachers enrolled in 10 kindergartens and 20 childcare centers in Seoul. Each teacher evaluated her children with six scales developed by NICHD Early Child Care Research Network(1996); child-leacher relationship, peer relationship, social competence, adaptive language, behavior characteristics, and behavior problems. The data were analyzed by ANOVA. The results of this study were as follows: First, the girls in both programs had closer relationship with their teachers than the boys. The boys in the daycare were less dependent than those of kinder; on the other hand, the girls in the daycare were more dependent than those of kinder. Second, there was no significant difference in peer relationship between the children in both centers. Third, the girls of both centers scored higher than the boys in social competence. Fourth, in the child's adaptive language, both boys and girls were well developed, but girls were higher than boys, especially in kinder Fifth, the children in both centers behaved attentively in the groups, but in particular, the girths were more attentive. Finally, most of children were received low scores in the behavior problem scale.

The subjects were 279 teachers employed in childcare centers in K Province. Data was collected by questionnaires, which required self-report by teachers. The collected data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation, hierarchial regression, by using SPSS Win 19.0. The results of our study was as follows. First, main effects of teachers' covert narcissism and supervisors' servant leadership on teachers' organizational cynicism was observed. teachers' covert narcissism was positively associated with teachers' organizational cynicism. and supervisors' servant leadership was negatively associated with teachers' organizational cynicism. Second, supervisors' servant leadership was a better predictor of teachers' organizational cynicism than teachers' covert narcissism. Purpose: Immunization is one of the simplest and most effective approaches for protecting the health of children from preventable infectious disease. This study assessed the immunization statuses of children presenting to childcare centers in Korea and compared the sociodemographic factors of children with age-appropriate immunization for DTaP4 with those with delayed immunization for DTaP4. Method: A national mail survey was used to collect data on the children's immunization history and sociodemographic information. A total of 248 mothers returned completed questionnaires for their children. Results: The overall immunization coverage for HepB, a series of DTaP and polio and varicella was above 95%. However, the percentage of age-appropriate immunizations of vaccines ranged from 45.3% to 69.0% depending on the vaccines. Only the age of the child was a significant factor for delayed immunization for DTaP4. Conclusion: To fully protect children from vaccine-preventable disease, childcare providers can playa role in monitoring the immunization statuses of children in their care centers to ensure that they all receive all childhood immunizations on time.

It undertakes for single-parent families with children in elementary and middle schools to determine limitations that prevent single-parent families from obtaining in existing policies and legislation. The study introduces policy guidelines to ensure childcare for single-parent families. The results are follows. First, the basic policies supporting single-parent families should be broadened to include not only low-income, single-parent families but also higher-income, single-parent families, which would allow all such families to be given first priority at childcare centers. Second, to resolve discrimination and prejudice toward single-parent families, articles about education and single-parent families should be included in the Single-Parent Support Act. Third, substantial and customized support policies tailored to the growth-stages of children are needed. Finally, various family types, such as single-father or multi-cultural single-parent families, must be considered.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has conducted the Dietary Education Projects at Childcare Centers since 2015. This study provides preliminary data for early childhood dietary education programs, by evaluating the outcomes of the projects. This survey enrolled 212 participants whose children had participated in the projects, and 142 non-participants. Comparing the perception of importance towards each educational program of the projects, dietary education program gained significantly higher importance than other subjects included, and was significantly higher in the participants than in non-participants. In the preference for food group survey for children, vegetable and seaweed preferences were higher among participants than non-participants, indicating that participation in the dietary education projects contribute towards increase in preferences for vegetables and seaweed, which children generally dislike. No significant differences were observed in children's dietary habits between participant and non-participant groups, thereby suggesting that the education projects were insufficient for inducing dietary habit changes. In order to accomplish effective improvement of dietary habits, the education projects need further improvements to achieve systematic and long-term plans.
