유치원 아동과 어머니의 아동도서 접근관점의 관계성에 대한 사례 연구 (A case study of kindergarten children's reading stances and responses with relation to those of their mothers)

  • The case study describes kindergarten children's reading stances and responses with relation to those of their mothers'. Rosenbaltt's theory (1978) of aesthetic and efferent stances in used to characterize the relationship between the reader and the text. mother's reading stances are examined by observing each case study child's reading experience with his/her mother at home. In most cases differences in some children's preferred stances seemed to reflect differences in their mothers' stances. As a result, children took a different type of stance from the teacher's efferent stance and were perceived by the teacher to be slower with regard to literacy development, even though they had formed their own reading worlds. Interestingly enough, children with an aesthetic reading stance were welcomed among their peers during free play time. In contrast, children who took a stance congruent with the teacher's efferent stnace were perceived by the teacher to be on the right track with regard to literacy development, although their reading worlds seened to be limited. Interestingly, the children with efferent reading stances were not engaged in collaborative meaning negotiation processes with peers. The case study children with mothers who did not take an extreme type of stance, I.e., neither a very efferent nor a very aesthetic stance, seemed to choose a type of stance depending on a context.

교사들의 스마트 교육 수용과 유아 디지털 리터러시에 대한 인식 탐구 (Exploring Teachers' Perceptions and Beliefs about the Acceptance of Smart Education and Preschoolers' Digital Literacy)

  • 본 연구는 유아교사들을 대상으로 유아의 스마트 미디어 이용과 유아 디지털 리터러시에 대한 인식과 신념을 살펴봄으로써 스마트 교육을 활성화 할 수 있는 방안을 탐색해보고자 한다. 연구에서는 인터뷰를 통해 유아교사들이 스마트 교육 수용과 관련하여 어떠한 인식을 가지고 있는가를 살펴보았다. 연구 결과 유아교사들은 유아들의 스마트 미디어 이용에 대하여 긍정적이기보다는 부정적인 태도를 가지고 있었으며 스마트 교육의 제한적인 활용이 필요하다고 응답했다. 교사들이 가진 기술에 대한 부정적인 태도는 스마트 교육의 수용을 저해하는 장애물인 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 교사들의 인식 개선이 스마트 교육 활성화의 중요한 전제 조건임을 보여준다.

Anderson 모형을 이용한 노인의 사회서비스 이용 예측요인 (Predictors of Social Service Utilization of Elderly Using the Anderson model)

  • 전통적으로 Anderson 모형은 의료 및 사회서비스 이용에 대한 예측요인을 분석하는데 적합하다는 평가를 받는다. 따라서 본 연구는 선행연구를 토대로 Anderson 모형의 선행요인(성별, 연령, 교육수준, 거주 지역, 결혼상태), 가능요인(경제상태, 건강정보 이해능력, 복지관 이용 여부), 욕구요인(만성질환 보유 여부, 도구적 일상생활수행능력, 우울) 등을 구성하여 노인들의 사회서비스 이용 예측요인을 탐색하였다. 본 연구를 위해 SPSS 18.0을 이용하였으며, 충북 지역에 거주하는 329명의 노인들을 대상으로 하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 노인들의 사회서비스 이용에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 요인은 가능요인의 건강정보 이해능력과 복지관 이용 여부로 나타났다. 그 다음으로는 욕구요인 중에서 우울 수준이 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 선행요인 중에서는 성별이 큰 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과에 기초하여 노인들의 사회서비스 이용을 활성화하기 위한 몇 가지 방안을 제시하였다.

대학에서의 '아동미디어교육' 수업을 위한 액션러닝 사례 연구 (A Case Study on Action Learning for the College Course 'Media Education for Children')

  • 액션러닝은 실제 문제를 찾아 해결책을 찾는 과정을 통해 학습이 이루어지는 교수방법으로 최근 대학 수업에서도 그 사례 연구가 수행되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 서울에 위치한 S 대학교의 아동청소년학과에 개설된 '아동미디어교육' 수업에서 액션러닝 교수법을 실시하고 그 효과성 여부를 조사하는 것이다. Marquardt(2000)가 제안한 액션러닝의 구성 요소들과 과정에 따라 학생들은 아동의 뉴스리터러시 교육이라는 과제를 도출하였으며 초등 6학년을 위한 뉴스리터러시 교육 목적과 목표, 내용을 설정하고 교수학습방법을 개발하여 교육현장에 적용하였다. 액션러닝 수업에 대한 대학생들의 반응과 평가는 설문지와 구두로 수집되었다. 그들은 액션러닝 적용 수업 방식을 통한 능동적이며 자발적인 문제 탐구와 현장에서의 적용이 아동미디어교육 수업 목표를 달성하는데 도움을 주었다고 답하였다. 마지막으로, 액션러닝 수업방식의 필요 조건으로서 교육 현장과의 긴밀한 협조와 현장 적용 시 적절한 피드백의 중요성이 논의되었다.

지역아동센터 종사자의 사례관리 수행과 영향요인 (Case Management Performance of Community Child Center Workers' and Influential Factors)

  • Case management is becoming increasingly more important in the field of social welfare. The purpose of this study was to examine the practice of case management at community child centers and to identify factors influencing their performance. In addition, this study also analysed the performance level of case management at each stage and the factors influencing the level at each stage. For the purpose of this study, data obtained from about 181 community child center workers in Busan, Ulsan and Gyeongsangnamdo were analyzed. According to the results of the analysis, in Model 1 which represents the category of socio-demographic and personal factors, three factors namely gender, experience in case management, and interpersonal skills were found to be significantly influential and they have an explanatory power of 21.5%. Under the category of organizational factors in Model 2, four factors were found to be influential: experience in case management, interpersonal skills, availability of case management guidelines, and holding case conferences. These factors account for 33% explanatory power, 11.5% higher than that of Model 1. In Model 3 which represents the third category of community network literacy, three factors namely interpersonal skills, availability of case management guidelines, and ability to utilize networks were found to influence case management at community child centers, and they have an explanatory power of 43.4%, 10.4% higher than that of Model 2. For the practice of social welfare, these findings have the implication that community child center workers need to improve their interpersonal skills by cultivating communication skills, collaborative problem-solving skills, conflict-management skills, and other relevant skills. Furthermore, it is necessary to provide specific guidelines for case management, to have regular case conferences, to establish a community network, and to reinforce cooperation and mutual support among institutions within the network.

Healthcare access challenges facing six African refugee mothers in South Korea: a qualitative multiple-case study

  • Purpose: Following legal reform in 2013, the annual number of asylum seekers entering South Korea has increased from 1,143 in 2012 to 5,711 in 2015. We interviewed six African refugee mothers of young children regarding their health needs and barriers to access maternal child health services. Methods: We recruited mothers who had visited a clinic for immigrants between July 2013 and August 2015. Participants were African refugee women, aged over 18 years, who had given birth in Korea within the previous 5 years and had come to Korea over a year before recruitment. Interview questions examined participants' experiences in pregnancy and childbirth and concerns regarding their child's health status. Initial data analysis involved all researchers' immersion in the entire collection of transcripts. We then noted recurrent topics and themes and identified similar issues. Results: At the time of giving birth, 5 participants were asylum seekers and one had undocumented status. The following barriers impeded their access to maternal child healthcare: socioeconomic factors (unstable social identity, low economic status, difficulty obtaining health insurance), language barriers (lack of linguistically appropriate health information, limited access to translation services), and cultural barriers (religious and cultural differences). Weak social support also hindered access to healthcare soon after migration; however, social links with the community emerged as a key coping strategy following settlement. Conclusion: We identified barriers to maternal and child healthcare and coping strategies among African refugee mothers in Korea. Future research should assess refugees' health status and improve health access and literacy among refugee mothers.

어머니의 구강건강정보이해력이 유아 자녀의 구강건강상태와 행동에 미치는 영향 (Impact of Mother's Oral Health Literacy on Preschool Children's Oral Health Status and Behavior)

  • 이번 연구는 어머니의 구강건강정보이해력이 유아 자녀의 구강건강상태 및 행동에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 파악하여 모자 구강건강 증진에 기여하고자 편의표본추출법에 의해 선정된 경기도 평택시 소재 유치원 및 어린이집 8곳에 다니는 만 5, 6세 아동과 어머니 233명을 대상으로 조사연구를 시행하여 다음과 같은 주요 결과를 얻었다. 어머니의 구강건강정보이해력, 구강건강관리행동, 유아의 구강보건지식 태도 행동을 상 하위 25% 집단으로 나누어 구강건강정보이해력에 따른 유아자녀의 구강건강상태 차이를 비교한 결과, 어머니의 구강건강정보이해력은 우식유치수(dt), 우식유치수 및 충전유치수(dft)와 모두 유의한 차이를 보였고 상위집단일 경우 dt, dft가 더 적게 나타났다. 구강건강관리행동과 유아의 구강보건지식 태도 행동에 따른 유아의 구강건강상태는 dt에서만 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였고, 상위 집단일 경우 dt가 적게 나타났다. 구강건강정보이해력은 유아 자녀의 dt, dft와 부의 상관관계가 있었다. 또한, 유아의 구강보건지식 태도 행동, 구강건강관리행동과는 양의 상관관계를 보였다. 어머니의 구강건강정보이해력이 유아 자녀의 구강보건 지식 태도 행동에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위한 위계적 다중 회귀분석 결과, 어머니의 구강건강관리행동이 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤고, 이어 언어적 구강건강정보이해력, 유아 성별, 어머니 연령, 그리고 자녀수 순으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 어머니의 구강건강정보이해력이 유아 자녀의 구강건강 상태에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 일반적 특성, 구강건강관리행동, 유아의 구강보건지식 태도 행동을 통제한 상태로 다중 회귀분석을 시행한 결과, 언어적 구강건강정보이해력이 dt에 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤고, 기능적 구강건강정보이해력은 영향력이 없었다. 그러나 dft에는 다른 변수들을 통제하였을 때 두 개의 구강건강정보이해력 모두 독립적으로 가장 큰 영향력을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 종합할 때, 유아 자녀의 구강건강증진을 위하여 어머니의 구강건강정보이해력을 항상 고려해야 하며, 이를 반영한 구강보건교육이 시행되어야 할 것이다.

아동의 그림일기에 나타난 글과 그림 간의 의미 구성 방식 (An Analysis of Meaning Construction between Texts and Pictures in Children's Picture Diaries)

  • Digital technology has advanced rapidly and it is anticipated that multimodal ways of meaning-making will become increasingly important. Consequently, teaching multimodal literacies is becoming a major issue in education. This study focuses on the use of picture diaries as a means of teaching multimodal literacies. Picture diaries are one of the basic and unique multimodal texts used in lower elementary level classes in Korea. A further advantage is that it is a promising text model which can be taught in unplugged ways. In order to explore the educational implications of using such picture diaries, this study sought to analyze the ways in which twenty four $1_{st}$ graders in an elementary school constructed meaning with written language and pictures in composing picture diaries. 251 picture diaries composed during several months of their $1_{st}$ grade period were analyzed based on the constant comparative method. The results indicated that the students utilized both written language and pictures in diverse and creative ways to provide their audience with more comprehensive meaning. These results indicate that teachers need to consider their students as active multimodal meaning-makers and provide their students with more opportunities to practice multimodal meaning-making and share their experiences.

한글 자음과 모음에 대한 유아의 지식이 단어 읽기에 미치는 영향 (The Effects of Alphabet Knowledge on Korean Kindergarteners' Reading of Hangul Words)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationship of kindergarteners' alphabet knowledge to their ability to read words, in connection with the features of the Korean alphabet 'Hangul'. A total of 289 children aged four to six from three kindergartens in Busan participated in the study. The main results are as follows. To begin with, the participants showed continuous development in the knowledge of consonant names, vowel sounds, the vowel stroke-adding principle, and the alphabet composition principle. Meanwhile, discontinuous development was found in the knowledge of consonant sounds and the consonant stroke-adding principle, which indicated that kindergartners could show differential speed in various sub-skills of literacy development. The kindergartners' naming of consonants developed before their recall of consonant sounds, and the knowledge of consonant sounds had an effect on the knowledge of vowel sounds. Children had difficulty in treating more complicated letters of the alphabet stroke-adding principle test, and eve syllables of the alphabet composition principle test. Most importantly, the children's alphabet knowledge was strongly related to their ability to read words written in Hangul, as kindergarteners with a greater knowledge of alphabet names, sounds, and principles were shown to read words better.

A Multifactorial Interpretation of a Teenager's Suicide: Based on Krystal's Death in Casual Vacancy

  • Objectives: It is hard to accumulate research data on adolescents' suicide, because friends and family of the suicide completers might be reluctant to share the experience. To overcome the lack of information on adolescent suicide victims, the authors examined the risk and protective factors for adolescents' suicide from a character in a novel. Methods: Krystal, an adolescent female in the novel The Casual Vacancy by Joanne Rowling, failed to overcome her unfortunate circumstances and committed suicide. The authors analysed Krystal's case based on the guideline for patients with suicidal behaviours to address the complicated situation of her death. Results: Krystal grew up in a poor and dangerous environment. Despite the environmental hardships, she developed ego maturation with affectionate help from Mr Fairbrother, an assistant coach of the Girls' Rowing Team and a parish councillor. The sudden passing away of Mr Fairbrother brought on a crisis of identity for Krystal. In addition, a villainous character raped her and her brother drowned to death, which brought her great sorrow. She felt helpless and committed suicide. Conclusion: In spite of many risk factors for suicide, Krystal was able to keep her life with a few protective factors, a younger brother in the home, and a sense of responsibility for the family. After the loss of her brother, however, she collapsed in a moment. Krystal's suicide might not only be a personal choice but a breakdown of the social protection system for the youth.
