Background: 8,000 children in North Korea died before they reached the 1 year after births in 2013. The high mortality rate of children under five years of age is mainly caused by infectious diseases and malnutrition. The need for national pediatric immunization and supply of vaccines will be vital when the abrupt reunification occurs. Objective: The purpose of this study is to scrutinize the pediatric immunization coverage of North Korea. Additionally it is to estimate the amount and the costs needed to vaccinate. Methods: The target population is the children of North Korea. The method is based on a pre-survey and an interview of North Korea defectors. The target interviewees searched for are as follows; doctors, teachers, and others. The interview includes questions on mortality rates and immunization coverage. The analysis is largely based on the statements of the health care providers within the selected group. Results: The interviewees are 8; 7 female and 1 male. The birth years range from 1956 to 1982. 3 out of 8 are former health care providers; a doctor, a pharmacist, and a nurse. The morbidity rate of infectious diseases exceeds the data from WHO. The immunization coverage is nearly 0% after 1980s. In order to ensure the welfare of North Korean children, at least 8,234,000 vaccine doses, requiring over 105 million U.S. dollars, are needed. Conclusion: The morbidity rate of infectious disease in North Korea is conspicuous. The preparation for supply and expenditure of vaccines is vital.
Objective: This study aims to examine the level of parental perceptions and practices on parental role responsibilities for children enrolled in preschools and to verify the differences. Methods: A total of 301 parents whose children were attending preschools participated in this study. The collected data were analyzed for frequency, factor analysis, and reliability. In addition, the t-test and the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) were performed. Results: First, there are relatively high levels of perception and practices of parental role responsibilities. Second, parental perception of parental role responsibilities is higher than the level of actual performance. Third, although parents were highly aware of their role responsibilities, there is a great expectation of the role of preschools for the development of the social competence of children. Fourth, parents value the level of practice of role responsibilities in preschools relatively high. Conclusion/Implications: Support systems are needed to reduce the gap between parental perception and practice of their role responsibilities for children enrolled in preschools.
With the increasing number of children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), very early-onset IBD (VEO-IBD), defined as IBD that is diagnosed or that develops before 6 years of age, has become a field of innovation among pediatric gastroenterologists. Advances in genetic testing have enabled the diagnosis of IBD caused by gene mutations, also known as monogenic or Mendelian disorder-associated IBD (MD-IBD), with approximately 60 causative genes reported to date. The diagnosis of VEO-IBD requires endoscopic and histological evaluations. However, satisfactory small bowel imaging studies may not be feasible in this small population. Both genetic and immunological approaches are necessary for the diagnosis of MD-IBD, which can differ among countries according to the available resources. As a result of the use of targeted gene panels covered by the national health insurance and the nationwide research project investigating inborn errors of immunity, an efficient approach for the diagnosis of MD-IBD has been developed in Japan. Proper management of VEO-IBD by pediatric gastroenterologists constitutes a challenge. Some MD-IBDs can be curable by allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. With an understanding of the affected gene functions, targeted therapies are being developed. Social and psychological support systems for both children and their families should also be provided to improve their quality of life. Multidisciplinary team care would contribute to early diagnosis, proper therapeutic interventions, and improved quality of life in patients and their families.
Purpose: This study was to provide understanding of the meaning of the transition experiences in pregnancy and childbirth among the married immigrant women. Methods: Data was collected through a face-to-face interview from 11 married immigrant women. Their conjugal lives were followed using the hermeneutics phenomenological method developed by van Manen: focusing on the meaning of lived experience. Results: The essential themes that were associated with the transition experiences of the participants' lives during pregnancy and childbirth were as follows: "entering a strange world filled with chaos and tension where they feel like outsiders", "being pregnant and giving birth in increasingly difficult times", "giving birth to a child, which strengthens them to persevere through painful life experiences", "receiving greater support from their families". Conclusion: It contributes a deeper understanding of the essence of the transition experiences of married immigrant women who undergo pregnancy and childbirth after immigration. On the basis of this understanding, this study would be likely to highlight the importance of establishing an appropriate health and medicare systems and the expert network of nursing care for immigrant wom.
This study sought to understand the requirements of registered institutions and parents of beneficiary children's through a satisfaction survey conducted at Center for Children's Foodservice Management (CCFSM) and to improve quality to create a model example of site-based meal safety management in accordance with population trends. In 2019, the comprehensive satisfaction level of the director and parents rose 2.4 points and 2.9 points, respectively, compared to the previous year, and the comprehensive satisfaction level of the director and parents continued to rise from 2015 to 2019. The gap between the highest and lowest institutions is narrowed to 13.5 points year-on-year from 21.4 points. National Institute of Food and Nutrition Service will need to make efforts to upgrade regional centers through (Human Resource Development(HRD) training to strengthen their job-specific capabilities and minimize the standard deviation of each center. Since local centers are distributed across the country and have field-oriented service support systems, CCFSM will need to manage the healthy eating habits of the underprivileged, provide information necessary to establish proper eating habits, strengthen education, and establish a customized food safety service system.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to examine the perceptions of early childhood educators about the role of middle managers in daycare centers. Methods: A survey was conducted with 254 educators including directors, middle managers, and teachers working at daycare centers located in Jeonbuk. An interview was then conducted with 18 educators working at six different centers. IPA for the survey and thematic analysis were performed for the interview contents. Results: The results show that all the participants perceived that communication among managers, daycare staff, and related organizations should be improved most urgently; in the interview, middle managers as a solver of the uncomfortable relationship between directors and teachers and as a linker between generations were emphasized. Also, the directors and middle managers recognized that the skills to have as middle managers needed to be improved most urgently, and the teachers recognized nothing needed to be improved urgently. Different emphasis for the need of supports for environment and systems was made in the interview by each position. Conclusion/Implications: The study discussed the necessity of the official position of middle managers in a daycare center to promote the professionalism of early childhood educators.
Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the tendency of research in relation to childcare curriculum for 0 to 2 year-olds, and then to analyze and understand the results of precedent research about the status of the operation of Childcare Curriculum. Methods: The analytic data utilized in this research contains a total of 45 research results about childcare curriculum for 0 to 2 year-olds. Results: First, the research methods were focused on quantitative research. Regarding research topics, the status of the operation of Childcare Curriculum, and contents and programs of Childcare Curriculum received high attention. Second, while, childcare teachers showed an awareness of the Childcare Curriculum, they made few efforts to investigate and understand it in depth. It was reported that a lack of multiple support systems would serve as an obstacle to the operation of Childcare Curriculum. Conclusion/Implications: There is a need for childcare centers, academic circles and the government to pay an even greater deal of attention to the childcare curriculum for 0 to 2 year-olds. In addition, structural and policy support is required, such as revitalizing case-based teacher training, lowering the ratio of teachers to children, and improving working conditions for infant teachers.
Objective: This study aims to examine the impact of young children's playfulness and self-esteem on their creative personality. Methods: The sample consisted of 332 four- and five-year-old children enrolled in kindergartens and daycare centers in Incheon. Teacher-report measures of playfulness, self-esteem, and creative personality scales were used for data collection instruments. The collected data were analyzed using t-test, analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: Firstly, significant differences were found in all variables based on children's gender, while age and birth order did not show statistically significant differences. Secondly, young children's playfulness and self-esteem were found to have a positive impact on their creative personality. Specifically, among the sub-variables, cognitive spontaneity and humor in playfulness, along with competency in self-esteem, showed relatively higher levels of impact on young children's creative personality. Conclusion/Implications: The study findings emphasize the necessity of comprehensive support systems that foster playfulness and self-esteem to enhance young children's creative personality. This includes providing proper teacher training and a range of instructional materials, along with parental education.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to verify whether teachers' interpersonal competence serves as a mediator between perceived social support in the workplace, as perceived by childcare teachers, and their level of job satisfaction. Methods: The participants of this study comprised 422 childcare teachers employed in childcare centers across Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province. Correlation analysis was performed using the collected data to examine the relationships between variables. Additionally, regression analysis was carried out to validate the mediating role of interpersonal relationship competence in the association between workplace social support and job satisfaction. Results: The study's findings revealed a positive correlation between interpersonal competence and job satisfaction. The study successfully confirmed the mediating role of interpersonal competence among childcare teachers in the connection between workplace social support and job satisfaction. Conclusion/Implications: The results suggest that enhancing the job satisfaction of childcare teachers requires identifying diverse social support systems within childcare centers that influence them. It is imperative to formulate strategies that highly value social support and concurrently enhance interpersonal skills.

The purpose of this study is to determine what factors affect the marital life of multicultural families. In-depth interviews were conducted with 15 immigrated females and their husbands living in Yongsan-Gu, Seoul, Korea, by open-ended questionnaire. The interviews took place on September 11, 2008, and October 11, 2008. The major findings can be summarized as follows: Through the content analysis of the informants' responses, three major factors were found to influence the successful adjustment of the married female immigrants: personal factors, familial support, and social support systems. Among the personal factors, the self-esteem of the married couples is relatively high. However, the factor of the economic living conditions of the multicultural families indicates some difficulty. Finally, considering the level of self-development of the female immigrants' husbands, an older husband was viewed more negatively than a younger one. In terms of familial support, the most important factor affecting the adjustment of a foreign wife is the trust of her husband and her relationship with the husband's family. Accordingly, educational programs are necessary to promote multicultural understanding and the couples' relations. In social support systems, the female immigrants experienced neglect, as far as multicultural prejudice in society. Therefore, in order to revitalize the self-esteem of immigrants, we need to reach out to multicultural families. The center for support of multicultural families provides opportunities to find training, upgrade education for employment, and expand their social network. In addition, it is necessary for the national public relations industry to recognize improvements regarding the adjustment of multicultural families.
