In this study, we analyzed the end-of-chapter questions in 8 types of chemistry II textbooks for science teachers according to revised Bloom's taxonomy of educational objectives not only to raise interests of questions in textbooks but also acquire a basic material for using questions in textbooks effectively. The results of classification following Bloom's cognitive category showed that 'Understanding(44.7%)' level was the most, then 'Application(29.9%)', Knowledge(15.6%) and 'Analysis (9.5%)' in order, which is distinct difference from the result of classification of the end-of-chapter questions in college general chemistry books which was 'Application', 'Analysis' and 'Understanding' in order. Especially, questions of 'Evaluation' level were not found at all in any textbook investigated and 'Synthesis(0.3%)' level was very few. On the other hand, the percentage of questions in 'Understanding' and 'Executing Quantitative' which required specific algorithms was 70% of total with most of the questions in 'Application' were 'Executing Quantitative'.
The purpose of this study was to search pre-service teachers?and chemistry teachers?conceptions related to electrolysis process by predicting electrolysis products in NaI solution. A questionnaire developed by the researchers and following interviews were adopted for the research. By the methods, the conceptions of the groups were compared. Also, the relationship between their conceptions and explanations of chemistry II textbooks and general chemistry books was examined. From the analysis, it was found that most of the pre-service teachers had difficulties in using standard electrode potential when they predicted products of electrolysis. Most of the chemistry teachers could use standard electrode potential, but it was difficult to understand water electrolysis in redox reaction. The explanations of chemistry II textbooks also contained misconceptions.
This study was carried out to analyze inquiry area of the chemistry (II) textbooks which were published by the 7th curriculum. The study attempts to analyze the degree to which chemistry (II) textbooks reflected the guidelines of the 7th science curriculum and propose educational suggestions for the inquiry learning. The analysis of the inquiry area was carried out based on the suggested inquiry elements of the 7th science curriculum. Overall, for the analysis of inquiry elements, basic inquiry elements except classifying suggested by the 7th science curriculum were well reflected on the textbooks. However, for the integrated inquiry elements, interpreting data takes almost half of the total integrated inquiry elements. Other integrated inquiry elements except drawing conclusion and transforming data were reflected less than ten percent. Investigation was also reflected less than ten percent of all inquiry activity. And inquiry activities were limited in terms of variety with few projects and no field trip. The main essence of the 7th science curriculum is the emphasis on total inquiry learning through various integrated inquiry elements and inquiry activities for higher grade students. Thus it is suggested that teachers provide inquiry learning which can supplement the textbook.
A questionnaire on "atomic models and electron configuration" was performed on 34 of 11th grade and 38 of 12th grade students who took the Chemistry-II course in order to examine the degree of learning achievement. Also eight Chemistry-II textbooks published in the 6th curriculum were analyzed for the similarities and differences in dealing with this topic and possible improvements were discussed in conjunction with the questionnaire. The results of this questionnaire showed that the degree of learning achievement on the topics between two different classes were not much different in general, although a little difference was found. This indicates that the topics have been taught in early 11th grade but subsequent supplemental teaching has not been performed. To study on the topics of "atomic models and electron configuration" effectively and systematically, knowledge on the basic spectroscopy and quantum mechanics should be preceeded. However this could be practically difficult under the current high school curriculum. Therefore It would be necessary to describe the basic concepts for the quantum mechanics and spectroscopy schematically in the "Reference Materials" section of the textbook, even if it is not very long. On the other hand, the Chemistry-II textbooks analyzed in this work reveal, in general, to have the similar organization and explanation modes. However it has been analyzed that a connection between the Bohr and electron-cloud atomic models might be insufficient or position of electrons might be possible to be misunderstood by students in some textbooks.

The purpose of this study was to analyze inquiry activities in high school chemistry II textbooks on the revised 2009 curriculum. It also compared them to the textbooks based on the 7th curriculum, which were published by the same companies. The results in this study turned out to be as follows: First, the number of the activities and rate of inquiry activities per total pages were quite different from each publisher, and all of them decreased. Second, there were too many activities for specific inquiry process elements. Third, the types of inquiry activities differ slightly between each publisher. Experimenting and thinking were the most used while practicing was the least. Fourth, in the inquiry context, activities in scientific context were prevalent and activities in usual context were the second most common. Comparing to the text book on the 7th curriculum, the use of technical-social context increased, however, the technical-social context as well as the natural-environmental context were not used enough, as they constitute less than 10% of the activities. From these results, chemistry teachers should introduce a variety inquiry activities in chemistry curriculum for resolving those problems. Also, textbook developer should accommodate the results of research about science textbooks.
We compared the understanding of 4 pre-service teachers of chemistry education major and 2 pre-service teachers of chemistry major related to conceptions of "properties of dilute solutions" chapter in high school Chemistry II textbooks. As results, few pre-service teachers understood fully the concepts of high school Chemistry II textbooks. Some pre-service teachers had misconceptions related to properties of dilute solutions. We found that few differences existed between the pre-service teachers' understanding regardless of whether they took a major in chemistry education of a education college or a major in chemistry of noneducation college. Most of the pre-service teachers who attended this research recognized the lack of practical knowledge in their pre-service teacher curriculum.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the safety contents presented in high school science textbooks of the 2015 revised national science curriculum. For these, we found safety contents in the inquiries and appendices of 63 science textbooks: integrated science, science inquiry experiment, physics I, II, chemistry I, II, biology I, II, and earth science I, II. We analyzed these safety contents using six safety factors based on the seven standards for safety education. The main results are as follows: First, 81(46.0%) inquiries among 176 curriculum inquiries contain safety contents, and these contents are mainly found in chemistry textbooks, and the least in 'science inquiry experiment' textbooks. Second, safety contents are found the most in 'laboratory safety rule', followed by 'safety symbol' and 'usage of protection equipment'. Third, the safety contents of appendices are mainly in 'laboratory safety rule' and 'accident treatment'. Based on these results of this study, it is concluded that these textbooks have problems; that there is a big difference in describing safety contents in each textbook; that these safety contents are not presented in detail and that the educational effect is reduced. Furthermore, the safety symbol is not standardized. We also discussed ways to improve the safety contents of science textbooks.
In this study, we tried to find out how heat and thermal energy terms are defined and used in Korean science textbooks, and to see if there are any differences in the meaning of these terms used in different areas of science. For this purpose, the contents of 52 science textbooks of elementary, middle and high school published by the 2009 revised curriculum were analyzed. The definition of the term heat is given in the middle school Science(1) and the high school Physics I and II textbooks. Most textbooks define heat as "energy transferred due to a temperature difference (Type I)". Only one textbook of Physics I defines heat as "transfer of energy due to a temperature difference (Type II)". The definition of thermal energy is mostly presented in the middle school Science (2) and the high school Physics I textbooks. Physics I textbooks define the thermal energy as "molecular kinetic energy (Type III)", while Science(2) textbooks define it as Type I or "energy causes temperature change or phase transition of matter (Type IV)". In the texts of textbooks, heat is mainly used as the meaning of Type I or Type III. Thermal energy is mainly used as Type III, but it is also used as Type I in the high school Physics and Chemistry textbooks. The meanings of heat and thermal energy terms used are differed by the area of science. They are mainly used as type I or type III in Physics and Chemistry textbooks, and used as type III in Life Science and Earth Science textbooks.

The purpose of this study was to investigate explanations of high school chemistry II textbooks and the diversity of chemistry major teachers' thinking types related to dilute solution properties for finding the sources of students' difficulties. Eight kinds of textbooks were analyzed, and the teachers' thoughts were searched by a questionnaire developed for inquiring teachers' preference of explanation types. We analyzed teachers' responses from individual interviews after the questionnaire to discern their deeper thoughts. From the results, it was found that the explanations of the textbooks were not clear enough to have scientific conceptions. The figures and explanations of the textbooks do not match either. It was also found that chemistry major teachers' thoughts were not solid when they suffered cognitive confliction by different situation with their thoughts.
The purpose of this study is to analyze comparatively and improve the preparation of chlorine gas in the high school chemistry II textbooks on the basis of the revised curriculum. From the results of the preparation experiment of chlorine gas which is commonly dealing with 9 kinds of textbook in the nation, we have found some problems and have suggested the solution of these problems. The problem is the students may inhale the chlorine gas that is to be injurious on the human body, so the research is focused on safe experimental method without inhalation of chlorine gas. The simple conviction method of character in laboratory is to propose at 5 kinds.
