Dual Functional Gd(III)-DOTA Liposomes for Cancer Therapy and Diagnosis as a Theragnostic Carrier

  • Development of dual functional liposome has been studied for cancer theragnostics. Therefore, we focused on ultrasound-sensitive liposomes with doxorubicin (DOX) and gadolinium (Gd) as a theragnostic carrier having a potential for cancer therapy and diagnosis. In this study, Gd(III)-DOTA-modified sonosensitive liposomes (GL) was developed using chemically synthesized Gd(III)-DOTA-DPPE lipid. Sonosensitivity of GL to 1 MHz ultrasound induced 25% of DOX release. The relaxivities ($r_1$) of GL were $7.33-10.34\;mM^{-1}s^{-1}$, which was higher than that of MR-bester$^{(R)}$. Intracellular delivery of DOX from GL by ultrasound irradiation was evaluated according to ultrasound intensity, resulting in increase of uptake of DOX released from ultrasound-triggered GLs compared to GL3 or Doxil$^{(R)}$ without ultrasound. Taken together, this study shows that the paramagnetic and sonosensitive liposomes, GL, is a novel and highly effective delivery system for drug with the potential for broad applications in human disease.

  • Analyzed are recent advances in design of novel boronared conjugates of synthetic and natural porphyrins and chlorins. These compounds showed high efficacy as cytotoxic agents for tumor cells in culture and as phototoxins in photodynamic therapy of tumor xenografts. Thus, boronated porphyrins and chlorins emerge as promising class of anticancer agents with potentially multiple advantages: the chemotherapeutic drugs alone and photo- and radiosensitizers in binary treatments.

  • This review describes the overall knowledges of parkinson's disease. There are involved the causes. chemical characteristics, clinical features including tremor. bradykinesia, and rigidity. evaluation of movement disorders. and physical therapy of parkinson's disease. People who are diagnosed with parkinson's disease experience movement disorders that, if not managed, can lead to considerable disability. Before treated with parkinson's disease, it is important to recognise the pathogenesis of that. Then we need to develop physiotherapeutic programs based on the pathophysiology of parkinson's disease.

  • Parkinson's disease(PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the functioning of the basal ganglia, a brain area that contributes to the control of movement. The disease is caused by the death of nerve cells in the brain that produce dopamine, a chemical messenger. The cells affected usually produce a neurotransmitter(a chemical that transmits nerver impulses) called dopamine, which acts with acetylcholine, another neurotransmitter, to fine-tune muscle control. In Parkinson's disease, the level of dopamine relative to acetylcholine is reduced, adversely affecting muscle control. When the supply of dopamine is depleted, the function of the basal ganglia is disrupted and its ability to control movement deteriorates. The result is that PD patients experience moderate rigidity, difficulty in initiating movements and slowness in executing them, and a rhythmical tremor at rest. Although the cause of Parkinson's disease is not known, genetic factors may be involved. About 3 in 10 people with the disorder have an affected family member. About 1 in 100 people over the age of 60 in the US have Parkinson's disease. And Parkinson's disease is slightly more common in men. The course of the disease is variable, but drugs may be the best effective in treating the symptoms and improving quality of life. But, The doctor may arrange physical therapy to help with physical mobility problems. It is important to continue to exercise and take care of your general health. Try to take a walk each day. Stretching exercises can help you maintain your strength and mobility. So, This papers will serve about the information of PD for clinical physical therapist. Finally, The aim of review is increasing approach method and technique for PD patients by the view of physical therapy.

  • The Grignard reaction of methyl pyropheophorbide-a (MPP-a) was performed to introduce lengthy alkyl chain for improving lipophilicity. After the introduction of alkyl chain to the both of carbonyls, peripheral aldehyde and cyclopentanone, the obtained diol 3 was subjected to dehydration to give monodehydrate product 4 selectively. The Qy band of prepared compounds were affected by the substituents on the Qy axis (N$\sub$21/-N$\sub$23/).

Treatment of Spontaneous Pneumothorax; in Patients 50 Years of Age or Older (노인성 자연 기흉의 치료방법 및 그 결과;50세 이상환자 60례 대상)

  • To assess the therapy of spontaneous pneumothorax in the aged patients, the treatment methods and results in 60 patients 50 years of age or older were retrospectively reviewed. Most of the patients were male [56 of 60 patients] and the major underlying lung diseases associated with spontaneous pneumothorax were tuberculosis [32 patients] and chronic obstructive lung disease [20 patients]. The recurrence rate of thoracostomy tube drainage with or without chemical pleurodesis using tetracycline was 39.6% [21 of 53 patients], but there was no recurrence in the patients treated with open thoracotomy, pleural abrasion, and chemical pleurodesis using talcum powder[Asbestosis free]. In the patients treated with open thoracotomy, the bullous or bleb lesions were placed in the various sites of both lungs. We concluded that even though thoracostomy tube drainage is the first choice of therapy for spontaneous pneumothorax in the aged patients, the recurrence rate is high, especially in the patients with persistent air leakage for more than 2 days, and the open thoracotomy with pleural abrasion and chemical pleurodesis using talcum powder can prevent the recurrence in the selected patients.

  • Gene therapy is fundamentally a sophisticated drug delivery technology to cure a disease by the transfer of genetic material to modify living cells. In other words, the gene is used as a therapeutic drug much like a chemical compound is employed in chemotherapy. Currently almost 600 clinical trials are underway worldwide since the first clinical trials carried out in 1990 to treat adenosine deaminase deficiency using retroviral vectors. Despite the great progress still is there no gene therapy product being approved as a new drug. This is partly due to a lack of an ideal gene delivery system that is safe and can provide stable, optimal level production of the therapeutic proteins in the cell. This review covers the current status of several different biological and physico-chemical agents that are being developed as gene delivery vehicles. Although gene therapy promises great hopes toward the cure of a broad spectrum of genetic and acquired diseases, the success of gene therapy heavily asks for the development of vector systems for safe and efficient application in humans.
