  • We have examined minimization of the number of impurity particles by replacing the load-lock chamber materials of the chemical vapor deposition equipment through optimization of the pumping method in the deposition chamber. In order to reduce the number of impurity particles in the chamber, the load-lock spacer material was changed from monomer casting nylon to Torlon. Furthermore, we controlled the pumping speed and number of pumping ports, which resulted in a reduction in the impurity particle generation from 2.67% to 0.52%. This study revealed that the selection of the material for the parts of a chemical vapor deposition chamber can minimize particle generation, thereby presenting a method of optimization method of the chemical vapor deposition chamber.

  • Pulping is a stage that can change fibrous raw materials into pumpable slurry. Recovered paper can be defibrated to individual fibers by shear stress generated by rotation of a rotor and water. Disintegration of recovered paper is more complicated than that of chemical pulp. When disintegration of recovered paper is poor, screening and cleaning efficiency will be worse and properties of paper will also be deteriorated. Therefore, pulping is an important treatment for improvement of availability of recovered paper and process runnability. In this study, degrees of disintegration of KOCC obtained from a linerboard mill was analyzed with a pilot-scale screen. Flake removal of KOCC slurry was performed by a pilot screen. Simple pumping action gave a positive effect on disintegration of KOCC. After pumping for 10 minutes, paper strength increased without the change of water retention value and fibrillation of KOCC slurry. This phenomena can be explained by modification of hornified surface of KOCC fibers by shear stress generated by pumping. Consequently, disintegration efficiency of KOCC can be enhanced by control of retention time at pulper or an agitation power at chests of papermaking process.

  • As the wire bonding process has been converted into BUMP process due to the high density integration of semiconductor chip, the telecommunication line connecting to semiconductor chip and external devices have become finer. As a result, a more precise work is necessary. However, it is difficult to control quantity given the nature of high viscosity of PSPI and the yield rate continues to decline due to the inflow of bubble. Therefore, this paper developed the D&P(degassing and pumping) system to remove and supply gas that is generated from coating the high viscosity photosensitive polyimide(PSPI) in the semiconductor BUMP process.

  • The study was carried out to investigate the water balance and losses of nutrients from paddy fields during cropping period. The size of paddy fields was 95 ha and the fields were irrigated from a pumping station. The runoff loading was the highest in June because of the high concentrations of nutrients due to applied fertilizer. When the runoff losses of nutrients were compared to applied chemical fertilizer, it was found that 39.1 % to 42.5 % of nitrogen lost via runoff while runoff losses of phosphorus account for 6.3 % to 8.0 % of the total applied amount during cropping period. When the ratio was calculated between nutrients losses by infiltration and the applied of chemical fertilizer, two year results showed 9.1 % to 10.7 % for nitrogen and 0.2 % for phosphorus, respectively.

  • Theoretical analysis of HF chemical laser models are performed through chemical reaction kinetics, gain process and stimulated emission process. A chemical laser of F+$H_2$ nonchain reaction is investigated through V-R transitions of excited HF for vibrational levels up to v = 3 and rate equations including nonchain pumping and deactivation. On this analysis, harmonic and anharmonic vibrational levels are considered separately and the results of the corresponding power calculations are showed very small difference between the two. Output powers are calculated with variation of temperature and initial concentrations of $H_2$. A HF chemical laser of $H_2$+$F_2$ chain reaction is also simulated with a premixed initial condition. Results of present model calculations are satisfactory through comparison with detailed calculations reported by others.

  • Spherical $CeO_2:Ho^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ particles were synthesized using spray pyrolysis, and the upconversion (UC) properties were investigated with changing the preparation conditions and the infrared pumping power. The resulting particles had a size of about $1{\mu}m$ and hollow structure. The prepared $CeO_2:Ho^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ particles exhibited intense green emission due to the $^5F_4/^5S_2{\rightarrow}^5I_8$ transition of $Ho^{3+}$ and showed weak red or near-IR peaks. In terms of achieving the highest UC emission, the optimal concentrations of $Ho^{3+}$ and $Yb^{3+}$ were 0.3% and 2.0%, respectively. The UC emission intensity of prepared $CeO_2:Ho^{3+}/Yb^{3+}$ particles had a linear relationship with crystallite size and concentration quenching was caused by dipole-dipole interaction between the same ions. Based on the dependency of UC emission on the pumping power, the observed green upconversion was achieved through a typical two-photon process and concluded that the main energy transfer from $Yb^{3+}$ to $Ho^{3+}$ was involved in the ground-state adsorption (GSA) process.

  • A field monitoring study was carried out to investigate the water balance and losses of nutrients from paddy fields in Sumjin river basin. The size of paddy fields was 115 ha and the fields were irrigated from a pumping station. The runoff loading was the highest in June because of the high concentrations of nutrients due to applied fertilizer. The surface runoff losses of T-N and T-P in runoff water were 53.4 to 68.3kg/ha(average 59.7kg/ha) and 0.38 to 2.20kg/ha(average 1.42kg/ha), respectively. When the runoff losses of nutrients were compared to applied chemical fertilizer, it was found that 42% to 60% of nitrogen lost via runoff while runoff losses of phosphorus account for 3.0% to 17.2% of the total applied amount during entire year.

  • Hydrogeochemistry of deep geothermal water (temperature: $42.2-47.9^{\circ}C$) at Heunghae, Pohang was evaluated using core logging, temperature and electrical conductivity (EC) logging before and after pumping tests, chemical analysis of geothermal water with depth, and observation of water quality variations during pumping tests. The geology of the area is composed of highly fractured marine sedimentary rocks. The hydrogeochemistry of geothermal water varies with drilling depth, distance from the coast, and pumping duration. According to the temperature and EC variations during 4 times of pumping tests, main aquifer of the area is considered as the fractured zones (540 to 900 m) developed in rhyolitic rocks. The high content of Na and $HCO_3$ in geothermal water can be explained by the inflow of deep groundwater from inland regulated by dissolution of silicates and carbonates. High TDS, Na and Cl concentrations indicate that the geothermal water was also strongly affected by seawater. The molar ratios of Na:Cl ($0.88{\sim}2.14$) and Br:Cl ($21.0{\sim}24.9{\times}10^{-4}$) deviate from those of seawater (0.84 and $34.7{\times}10^{-4}$, respectively), suggesting that water-rock interaction also plays an important role in the formation of water quality.
