  • A metal complex, copper (II) L-proline was chemically bound to ethylene glycol dimethacrylate and divinylbenzene crosslinked chloromethylated polystyrene and they were used as chiral chelate resin matrix for column chromatography to resolve enantiomers of DL-amino acids. The L-enantiomers eluted first and the degree of resolution on the polymer crosslinked with ethylene glycol dimethacrylate was superior to the polymer crosslinked with divinylbenzene.

  • The separation and concentration method of gold(III) and platium(IV) ions from other ions has been investigated using chelate resin, Amberlite IRC 718 in the mixed solution. The adsorption and desorption capacity of ions on the chelate resin in mixed solution were measured at room temperature. Using the data, gold(III) and platium(IV) ions were separated and concentrated in the ions solution.

  • We studied on the synthesis of chloromethylated polystyrene as a precursor of optically active polymers for direct resolution of optical isomers. Changing the degree of crosslinking and the kind of crosslinking agents, several polystyrene resin matrices were synthesized. The matrices were chloromethylated with methylal and chlorosulfonic acid as chloromethylating agents. The effects of solvents of various dielectric constants on the chloromethylation were quantitavely examined. We also synthesized chloromethylated polystyrene of macroreticular type that retained large surface area and good physical stability. The differences between the macroreticular type and macroporous type were investigated.

  • Separation/recovery of valuable metals such as nickel or tin from copper based alloys has recently attracted from the viewpoints of environmental protection and resource recycling. In this report, preliminary study on concentration and separation of nickel from copper based alloy dross using selective adsorption by chelate resin was performed. The chelate resin used in this study has absorbed copper ions more easily than nickel ions in the metal solution, which could allow the concentration/separation of the nickel from the copper base alloy solution. The final molar ratios of Ni and Cu ions in the two concentrated solutions were 70 and 99 % respectively after three-time flowing the solution through the chelate resin column.

  • We examined effects of crosslinking agents, i.e., ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (EGD) and butanediol dimethacrylate (BDD) containing ester groups on chloromethylation of crosslinked polystyrene resin matrices. It was proved that the ester group in methylmethacrylate (MMA) accelerates the chloromethylation of the divinylbenzene (DVB)-crosslinked styrene-MMA copolymer. As the MMA content increased in the styrene-MMA copolymers, the chloromethylation was enhanced. Complete chloromethylation was obtained at about 25% MMA content.

  • Various approaches have been attempted to develop recycling technologies related to industrial waste resources containing metals. Among them, glass is not decomposed into microorganisms, so landfill is not suitable, and interest in the recycling of waste glass is increasing. In this paper, by incorporating chelate resin to suppress the elution of heavy metals in waste glass and using waste glass as a fine aggregate and we want to evaluate the strength, drying shrinkage, alkali-silica reaction and heavy metal leaching of shielded filler materials and to provide basic data for utilizing waste glass as an economical and environmentally friendly shielding filler. As a result of the test, it was found that the use of waste glass as a fine aggregate was effective in the development of strength, but the incorporation of chelate resin had an influence on the strength development. In addition, the addition of chelate resin was effective in improving drying shrinkage but it was found to affect the alkali - silica reaction. As a result of the heavy metal leaching test, the KSLP test method satisfies all the criteria for heavy metal leaching. However, in case of lead, the limit of US ANSI 67-2007a was exceeded and further study should be done.

  • Several adsorbents were tried to remove the selenium ions from industrial wastewater and the following ascending order of the adsorption performance for the selenium at pH 9 was observed: cation exchange resin < chelate resin < zeolite < brown marine algae < granular activated carbon < anion exchange resin. Initial concentration of selenium(146 mg/L) in industrial wastewater was reduced to 63 mg/L of selenium at pH 9 by neutralization process. The maximum uptake of Se calculated from the Langmuir isotherm with anion exchange resin was 0.091 mmol/g at pH 10 and that with granular activated carbon was 0.083 mmol/g at pH 6. The affinity coefficients of Se ion towards anion exchange resin and granular activated carbon were 3.263 L/mmol at pH 10 and 0.873 L/mmol at pH 6, respectively. The sorption performance of anion exchange resin at the low concentration of Se, namely, was much better than that of granular activated carbon. The Se ions from industrial wastewater throughout neutralization process and two steps of adsorption using anion exchange resin was removed to 97.7%.

  • Recovery af molybdenum in spent desulfuriring catalyst of petrochemical industries was studied from MfGnatc solulion which is a resultant of firstly remvercd vanadium by wet processes. In order to separate and recover molybdenum from upper mentioned rafinatz solution containing several mctal ions, such as molybdenum (1,100 ppm), vanadium (150 ppm), aluminium (19 ppm), and nickel (33 ppm), either adsorption technique by chelate resin or solvent extr~ction by tertiary amine as extractant was applied. In case of adsorption method, palyamine type chelate resin showed the highest selectivily far molybdenum ion up lo 60 ddm' of ancentration aftcr eluting with 3.0 rnolld~n' of NH,OH. On the othcr hand. molybdenum ion wa cffectlvely cxtractcd in Ule whole ranges of equilibrilrm pR by solvent extraction method with 10 ~01%-alamine 336 which was pretreated with 2N-HCI
