Monitoring social networks based on transformation into categorical data

  • Social network analysis (SNA) techniques have recently been developed to monitor and detect abnormal behaviors in social networks. As a useful tool for process monitoring, control charts are also useful for network monitoring. In this paper, the degree and closeness centrality measures, in which each has global and local perspectives, respectively, are applied to an exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) chart and a multinomial cumulative sum (CUSUM) chart for monitoring undirected weighted networks. In general, EWMA charts monitor only one variable in a single chart, whereas multinomial CUSUM charts can monitor a categorical variable, in which several variables are transformed through classification rules, in a single chart. To monitor both degree centrality and closeness centrality simultaneously, we categorize them based on the average of each measure and then apply to the multinomial CUSUM chart. In this case, the global and local attributes of the network can be monitored simultaneously with a single chart. We also evaluate the performance of the proposed procedure through a simulation study.

An $\overline{X}$-Control Chart Based on the Gini′s Mean Difference (지니(Gini)의 평균차이에 기초한 $\overline{X}$-관리도)

  • Estimation of the process deviation is an important problem in statistical process control, especially in the control chart, process capability analysis or measurement system analysis. In this paper we suggest the use of the Gini's mean difference for the estimation of the process deviation when we design the control limits in construction of the control charts. The efficiency of the Gini's mean difference was well explained in Nam, Lee and Jung(2000). In this paper we propose an $\overline{X}$ control chart which use the control limits based on the Gini's mean difference. In various classes of distributions, the proposed control chart shows food performance.

Economic Design of a Moving Average Control Chart with Multiple Assignable Causes when Two Failures Occur

  • The economic design of control charts has been researched for over four decades since Duncan proposed the concept in 1956. Few studies, however, have focused attention on the economic design of a moving average (MA) control chart. An MA control chart is more effective than the Shewhart chart in detecting small process shifts [9]. This paper provides an economic model for determining the optimal parameters of an MA control chart with multiple assignable causes and two failures in the production process. These parameters consist of the sample size, the spread of the control limit and the sampling interval. A numerical example is shown and the sensitivity analysis shows that the magnitude of shift, rate of occurrence of assignable causes and increasing cost when the process is out of control have a more significant effect on the loss cost, meaning that one should more carefully estimate these values when conducting an economic analysis.

  • This study aims to develop the analysis tool that assesses the sunlight at any given point of a window or solar collector array shaded by surrounding obstacles. The development of this software, named SunChart, focused to the user-friendliness and the reliability. This SunChart can calculate the solar radiation as well as shading on the certain face. The calculation results by SunChart show by both numerically and graphically and are in a good agreement with ones obtained from "Sunrise Sunset" developed at Korea Astronomy Observatory and from TRNSYS.

A Control Scheme for a Gradual Drift in the Process Variance

  • This paper presents a study on control schemes for gradual increases (drifts) in a process variance. A new control chart, the Drifting Variance Control Chart (DVCC) is designed using Likelihood Ratio Test (LRT), and the ARL performance of the chart is evaluated for different subgroup sizes. The performance of this chart is then compared to some of the popular control schemes for the process dispersion, like the Shewhart S$^2$chart, the CUSUM chart and the EWMA chart. Results are presented and discussed. Also included is a sensitivity analysis that investigates how the DVCC performs when applied to a stepped change in process variance.

Comparison of control charts for individual observations (개별 관측치에 대한 관리도 비교)

  • In this paper, we consider the control charts applicable to monitoring the change of the population mean for sequentially observed individual data. The most representative control charts are Shewhart's individual control chart, the exponential weighted moving average (EWMA) control chart, and their combined control chart. We compare their performance based on a simulation study, and also, through real data analysis, we present how to apply control charts in practical application and investigate the problems of each control chart.

  • We developed a design chart for very large floating structures through intensive hydroelastic analysis. Using this chart, one can predict the hydroelastic response of very large floating structures preliminarily at design stage without the cost-demanding hydroelastic analysis. This paper presents two new design charts based on the theory of VLFS. The purpose of the first design chart is to determine RAOs of the maximum longitudinal stress of VLFS considering properties of waves and structures. The design chart I can be applied to any sizes of VLFS in same aspect ratios and dimensionless stiffness parameters. The second design chart is developed to take into account the actual wave condition by using the Bretschneider spectrum with Beaufort sea state.

  • This paper is designed a VSI ${\overline{X}}$-CRL synthetic control chart in aspect of economy. We found the optimal sampling interval and various control limit factors under various cost parameters using cost function, proposed Lorenzen and Vance. Optimal design parameters include the sample size, control limit width, sampling interval, CRL/S chart control limit; L. Comparison and analysis of cost parameters are applied between synthetic VSI ${\overline{X}}$-CRL chart and FSI ${\overline{X}}$-CRL chart. The result of this paper shows that VSI ${\overline{X}}$-CRL chart brings cost-cutting effect of 3.04% control expense less than FSI control chart. It may not be difficult to establish the optimal economic control parameters to apply the practical cost parameters in the field.

  • This research investigates statistical characteristics of variable sampling size & interval(VSSI) X charts under two assignable causes. Algorithms for calculating the average run length(ARL) and average time to signal(ATS) of the VSSI X chart are proposed by employing Markov chain method. Extensive sensitivity analysis shows that the VSSI. X chart is superior to the VSS or VSI X chart as well as to the Shewhart X chart in statistical sense, even under two assignable causes.

  • The growth rate of the domestic digital music contents market has been remarkable recently. Accordingly, the necessity of prediction for chart success of digital music contents has grown. This paper proposes prediction indexes for chart success of digital music contents through analysis of correlation between social data such as Internet news, SNS and entry rankings in Melon's weekly music charts. We collected a total of 10 social data items for each male and female artist, and executed cluster analysis. Through this, we found meaningful prediction indexes for chart success of digital music contents for each male and female artist.
