  • A novel high intensity charging device has been developed for the control of the submicron particles, such as the diesel soot particulates, which are very hard to charge highly by any means of the conventional charging device. Having new corona electrodes of a multineedle disk with the corona field-control electrodes in the outer-cylinder electrode, extremely intense and stable coronas on there sharp points expanding both radially and axially are established in the corona charging region between the multi-corona -needles and an outer-cylinder electrode. As a result, the maximum corona field intensity and current density of the charging device of the standard one on soot load in laboratory tests have been 8.5KV/cm(E=$2V_m$/D(1nD/d)) and $6.5{\mu}A/cm^2$ which enhance greatly the charging of soot particles about several 100 times higher than those obtained in conventional cylinder precipitators.

  • In this study, the thermally stimulated current(TSC) of corona charged PTFE film was studied and the simulation of corona charging process was also calculated by finite element method. The electrets which were formed by appling high voltages(DC-5∼-8[kV]) to PTFE film were experimented to measure TSC in the temperature range of -100∼+200 [$^{\circ}C$] and then the finite element method was accomplished to examine corona charging process using a obtained physical constants. It is confirmed that the charging negative corona is profitable as the applications are manufactured because the time constant of negative corona is much larger than it of positive corona. And it is attempted to estimate the corona charging process in space using simulation.

  • In this paper, as a part of studying the fast battery charger, designed the charging system by applying dual converter. This dual converter was applied to the charging system for reducing time by dividing high current which prevents the damage of parts from heating of components. In this paper continued the task by switching the topology of the dual converter for fast charging battery into SISO, PISO, and PIPO. The study to derive the optimized system topology by analyzing the efficiency of charging system.

  • TRIP강의 수소에 의한 취성화정도를 확인하기 위하여 산성과 알칼리성 전해질 분위기 하에서 전류밀도와 주입시간을 달리하여 수소를 강제주입시킨 후 sp시험으로 평가하고자 하였다. SP시험결과 산성 전해질 분위기가 알칼리성 전해질 분위기에 비해 수소 취성화가 더욱 민감하게 반응하는 것으로 조사되었다. 또한 산성 전해질은 주입시간과 전류밀도가 수소취성화에 영향을 미치는 인자로 확인되었으며, 알칼리성 전해질은 주입시간이 전류 밀도보다 수소 취성화를 촉진하는 요소로 조사되었다.

Protection properties of HTS coil charging by rotary HTS flux pump in charging and compensation modes

  • The low normal zone propagation velocity (NZPV) of high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tape leads to a quench protection problem in HTS magnet applications. To overcome this limitation, various studies were conducted on HTS coils without turn-to-turn insulation (NI coils) that can achieve self-protection. On the other hand, NI coils have some disadvantages such as slow charging and discharging time. Previously, the HTS coils with turn-to-turn insulation (INS coils) were operated in power supply (PS) driven mode, which requires physical contact with the external PS at room-temperature, not in persistent current mode. When a quench occurs in INS coils, the low NZPV delays quench detection and protection, thereby damaging the coils. However, the rotary HTS flux pump supplies the DC voltage to the superconducting circuit with INS coils in a non-contact manner, which causes the INS coils to operate in a persistent current mode, while enabling quench protection. In this paper, a new protection characteristic of HTS coils is investigated with INS coils charging through the rotary HTS flux pump. To experimentally verify the quench protection characteristic of the INS coil, we investigated the current magnitude of the superconducting circuit through a quench, which was intentionally generated by thermal disturbances in the INS coil under charging or steady state. Our results confirmed the protection characteristic of INS coils using a rotary HTS flux pump.

Multi-Objective Optimal Predictive Energy Management Control of Grid-Connected Residential Wind-PV-FC-Battery Powered Charging Station for Plug-in Electric Vehicle

  • Electric vehicles (EV) are emerging as the future transportation vehicle reflecting their potential safe environmental advantages. Vehicle to Grid (V2G) system describes the hybrid system in which the EV can communicate with the utility grid and the energy flows with insignificant effect between the utility grid and the EV. The paper presents an optimal power control and energy management strategy for Plug-In Electric Vehicle (PEV) charging stations using Wind-PV-FC-Battery renewable energy sources. The energy management optimization is structured and solved using Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization (MOPSO) to determine and distribute at each time step the charging power among all accessible vehicles. The Model-Based Predictive (MPC) control strategy is used to plan PEV charging energy to increase the utilization of the wind, the FC and solar energy, decrease power taken from the power grid, and fulfil the charging power requirement of all vehicles. Desired features for EV battery chargers such as the near unity power factor with negligible harmonics for the ac source, well-regulated charging current for the battery, maximum output power, high efficiency, and high reliability are fully confirmed by the proposed solution.

수소주입된 고강도 DP 박강판의 소형펀치시험결과 분석 (An Analysis of Small Punch Test Conducted with the High Strength Dual Phase Sheet Steels Charged with Hydrogen)

  • The small punch(SP) tests that can be applied to high strength sheet steel in automobile were carried out to evaluate the behavior of hydrogen embrittlement of DP sheet steels. In order to charge hydrogen at DP sheet steels, DP sheet steels were treated by the electrochemical hydrogen charging method under the charging conditions of current densities of 100, 150 and 200 $mA/cm^2$ for charging times of 5, 10, 25 and 50 hrs. Respectively, After hydrogen charging with experimental conditions, SP tests were performed. From the SP results, the correlations between the variation of bulb diameters and bulb heights with the hydrogen charging conditions were analysed. It was shown that the variation of bulb diameters were not significant with the hydrogen embrittlement due to the amounts of hydrogen charging. On the other hand, the bulb heights were observed to decrease with increasing hydrogen contents. It was thought that these results of the variation of bulb shapes after SP tests would be estimated as the index of evaluation of hydrogen embrittlement.

  • After reviewing the current status of hydrogen buses and hydrogen charging stations in the United States, as well as related laws and programs, it was found that the federal and state governments supported the supports of hydrogen buses and the deployment of hydrogen charging infrastructure through various policies and programs. In order to promote the spread of domestic and overseas hydrogen buses and hydrogen charging infrastructure, it is necessary to develop and apply various legal systems and programs that can provide incentives to hydrogen bus manufacturers, hydrogen charging station installers, hydrogen bus operating organizations and entities.   • The design and performance analysis of a power factor corrected (PFC), single-phase, single switch flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is carried out for low power battery charging applications. The proposed configuration of the flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter consists of only one switch and operates in discontinuous current mode (DCM), resulting in simplicity in design and manufacturing and reduction in input current total harmonic distortion (THD). The design procedure of the flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is presented for the battery charging application. To verify and investigate the design and performance, a simulation study of the flyback buck-boost converter in DCM is performed using the PSIM6.0 platform. A laboratory prototype of the proposed single switch flyback buck-boost ac-dc converter is developed and test results are presented to validate the design and developed model of the system.

  • Recently the researches on modular multi-level converter (MMC) are being highlighted because high quality and efficient power transmission have become key issues in high voltage direct current (HVDC) systems. This paper proposes an improved pre-charging method for the sub-module (SM) capacitor of MMC-based HVDC systems, which operates in the nearest level control (NLC) modulation and does not need additional circuits or pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques. The feasibility of the proposed method was verified through computer simulations for a scaled 3-phase 10kVA MMC with 12 SMs per each arm. Hardware experiments with a scaled prototype have also been performed in the lab to confirm the simulation results.
