The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of characteristics of hospital choice and hospital service quality on service value, customer satisfaction and hospital revisiting intent and a survey involving patients and their caregivers who used the hospital before was conducted for empirical analysis. Thus, the theory and factors concerning the characteristics of hospital choice, hospital service quality, service value, customer satisfaction and hospital revisiting intent and relevant preceding research were explored after examining the preceding research, the research model was developed accordingly. A total of 459 collected questionnaires were analyze after carrying out the survey on a national scale. The findings of this study have significance since it identified the motivation that affect the choice of hospital and provide information. Also, this study could be utilized as reference data for hospitals to survive in the fierce competition, as it carried out factual survey on considerations when making choice of hospital. Furthermore, due to the low expectation of patients and caregivers for hospital administration, the study indicated that it's linked to a significantly low chance of customer satisfaction and provide the cause. This study was differentiated with other research on hospital choice since it selected security as a factor of hospital choice, though it's not discussed in the preceding research and moreover, conducted the empirical analysis. And the results of empirical analysis revealed that customers felt that service value was improved when the information security was strengthened. In other words, the strengthening of hospital information security could be hospital choice motivation, which means this study provided practical implication.
In accomplishing the objectives of the hospital organizations effectively the good results of hospital information systems depends upon the usefulness and forms of informations provided by them under certain conditions. This study is aimed at examining how much hospital information systems are influenced by the characteristics of organizations and information systems. The results are as follows. 1. In the viewpoint of variations of organization characteristics, the support of chief executive group, the participation of users, education and training has good effects on satisfaction rates of users and system utilization rates as evaluation instruments of results of hospital information systems. 2. In the viewpoint of information system characteristics, the nearness of information sources, the scopes and qualities of informations has good effects on satisfaction rates of users and system utilization rates as evaluation instruments of results of hospital information systems. Accordingly interests and supports of chief hospital executives are required in order to heighten the results of hospital information systems, and there must be participations of organization members in their construction and performance. Also there must be training and education of members in the hospital affairs in using them. In such a condition of hospital organizations the good results of hospital information systems will be produced. The above concluded things must be taken into consideration importantly in their introduction and development.
The study purpose was to find which factors affect selection of hospital network types. This study used the 1998 American Hospital Association Annual Survey Database from Health Forum. Among these U.S. hospitals, the researcher selected hospitals located in Metropolitan Statistical Areas. Therefore the final observation cases for analysis are 1,971 Metropolitan Statistical Area hospitals in the United States. To identify significant variables influencing hospital network types, the study used proportional odds logistics regression model on population size, Health Maintenance Organization penetration rate, and market competition rate of area including a hospital, types of hospital ownership, hospital bed size, proportion of Medicare patients and Medicaid patients in total hospital patients, and occupancy rate. Contrary to conventional wisdom, selection of hospital network types was influenced by population size of area which a hospital located, types of ownership, hospital bed size, and proportion of medicare patients rather than Health Maintenance Organization penetration. Population size 1,000,000-2,499,999 had the highest probability of selecting type IV (clinical-vertical integration) from an independent hospital, and a religious group owned hospitals and for-profit owned hospitals had the highest probability of selecting Type IV (clinical-vertical integration) from an independent hospital. A bed size had positive relation on selecting Type IV (clinical-vertical integration) from an independent hospital. Unlikely general belief that the selecting types of hospital network was determined by the change of health insurance policy such as Health Maintenance Organizations and Preferred Provider Organizations, the types of hospital network were influenced by community characteristics such as population size, and hospital characteristics.

Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate general characteristics, job characteristics, characteristics of hospitals, and hospital coordinators, and to investigate the factors affecting the job satisfaction of medical workers. Methods: The data was collected through a self-reported questionnaire among 435 workers in plastic surgery and dermatology clinics in metropolitan city G. We investigated general characteristics, job-related characteristics, characteristics of medical institutions and hospital coordinators, job performance of hospital coordinators, and job satisfaction of medical workers. T-tests, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression analyses were conducted to investigate the factors related with job satisfaction. Results: The job satisfaction of the medical workers and the perceived job performance of hospital coordinators were $3.55{\pm}0.40$ and $3.74{\pm}0.43$, respectively. In multiple regression analysis, drinking frequency, number of night shifts, number of work days, and hospital coordinator introduction years were associated with the job satisfaction of medical workers. The more the overall job performance of hospital coordinators increased, the higher was job satisfaction(B=0.458, p<0.001). In detail, the more job roles(B=0.218, p<0.001), core competency(B=0.145, p=0.005), and leadership(B=0.099, p=0.037) increased, the higher was the job satisfaction of medical workers. Conclusions: The job satisfaction of the medical institution workers was associated with the perceived job performance of the hospital coordinator. In order to increase the job satisfaction of medical institution workers, a hospital coordinator with specialized job performance will be able to improve job satisfaction by carrying out efficient work in the medical institution.
Purpose. In this study, the empowerment and job characteristics of dental hygienists by hospital type were identified and the relationships between empowerment and job characteristics were examined. Methods. The subjects were 156 working dental hygienists. A structured self-administered questionnaire was used to investigate the empowerment and job characteristics of dental hygienists. For empowerment and Job Characteristics, the scale developed by Spreitzer and Hackman and Oldham was used. Results. The results of this study showed that the degree of formation of empowerment for dental hygienists was the highest in general/university hospitals. All elements of job characteristics were closely correlated with empowerment, and hospital type was correlated with the determination of empowerment. Job characteristics influenced empowerment. This result suggests that the inherent jobs of dental hygienists did not change much by hospital type, but empowerment changed because the organizational characteristics changed according to hospital size. Conclusions. Therefore, considering the importance of the jobs of dental hygienists, hospitals need to form an organizational atmosphere that guarantee autonomy and promote a diversity of jobs.

Purpose : This comparative study was designed to compare job characteristics and job satisfaction in correctional nurses and hospital nurses. Methods : The participants for this study were 96 nurses (46 correctional nurses, 50 hospital nurses). The survey instruments included Job Diagnostic Survey(JDS) developed by Hackman & Oldman (1980) and amended by Lee(1997) and Index of Work Satisfaction(IWS) developed by Stamps and Piedmonte (1978) and amended Park & Yun (1992). Data were analyzed using of means, percentages, $x^2$ - test, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient with SPSS program. Results : 1) Differences in job characteristics between correctional nurses and hospital nurses were not significant, but the mean score for correctional nurses' skill variety was significantly higher (t=-1.99, p<0.05) than hospital nurses 2) Differences in job satisfaction between two group were not significant, but the mean score for correctional nurses' pay satisfaction was significantly lower (t=-3.67, p<0.01.) than hospital nurses 3) There were significant negative correlations(r=-.544, p<.01) between correctional nurses' job characteristics and job satisfaction related to pay, but significant positive correlations (r=.331, p<.05) between job characteristics and professional status of job 4) There were significant positive correlations (r=.283, p<.05) between hospital nurses' job characteristics and job satisfaction, job characteristics and professional status of job (r=.530, p<.O1), and positive correlations between autonomy of job characteristics and job satisfaction (r=.522, p<.01). Conclusion : The results suggest a redesign of correctional nurses' job and improvement of outcomes. it is also recommended that job be done toward expanding and improving the reward system
Back injury is frequent in industry workers and is a common cause of productivity loss. It has been reported that the insured of industrial accident insurance tend to stay in hospital longer than that of other types of insurance. The purpose of this study was to identify factors affecting the length of hospital stay for the treatment of back injury in the workers under industrial accident insurance. The results of this study help insurers develop reasonable industrial accident insurance policy for back injury claims and prevention strategies of work-related back injury. A total of 2,949 patients whose industrial accident insurance claim has been approved for the treatment of work-related back injury from January to December 1999 were included in this study. Relationship between the length of hospital stay and characteristics of patient, work place, back injury, and hospital were assessed using ANOVA, t-test, simple linear regression and multiple resgression. The major findings of this study are as follows : 1. The average length of hospital stay(LOS) was 91.82 days, respectively. 2. Characteristics of Patient LOS of male patients was longer than that of female patients, there was positive correlation between age and LOS and between average wage and LOS. Working period was negatively correlated with LOS. Distance from resident to hospital was positively correlated with LOS and LOS was significantly different dependign on type of duty. 3. Characteristics of Work Place LOS was significantly different depending on types of industry and geographical region of work place. Size of work place was positively correlated with LOS. 4. Characteristics of Back Injury Occupational back pain required shorter LOS compared with back injury due to electric shock. Number of concomitant illnesses and severity of disability were positively correlated with LOS. 5. Characteristics of Hospital Patients treated in community hospitals required significantly longer LOS. Treatment in hospitals with rehabilitation program required decreased LOS. This was more prominent as number of physicians specialized in rehabilitation. 6. Multiple regression analysis revealed that distance form resident to hospital, geographical region of work place, size of work place, number of concomitant illnesses, severity of disability, and type of hospital were factors affecting LOS.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between patient characteristics and patient satisfaction. Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was conducted in an acute care hospital. The subjects were 317 patients discharged from general medical and surgical nursing care units during September, 2005. Patient satisfaction was measured using the short-form satisfaction scale of Hwang and Park(2001). Additional information about patient characteristics, including general demographics and health care utilization variables, was collected from the hospital information systems. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine patient characteristics influencing patient satisfaction. Results: Patients were satisfied with hospital care with an average of 4.10 on a five-point Likert scale. Patient characteristics explained 13.5% of the variance of patient satisfaction. The significant factors influencing patient satisfaction were patients' age and perceived health status. There was no significant relationship between structural variables and patient satisfaction. Conclusion: This study showed that patients' characteristics were significant factors explaining patient satisfaction. Therefore, these characteristics should be adjusted in reporting patient satisfaction as an indicator for hospital-level or department-level rating.
This study was conducted to analyze patient days and medical care benefits of finger-amputated patients due to industrial accident. The 161 personal data on medical care for finger-amputated patients due to industrial accident(88 in 1994, 73 in 1995) of Regional Labor Office and hospital characteristics were analyzed. The major results of this study were as follows : According to stepwise multiple regression analysis of patient days, number of amputated finger, location of hospital, bed capacity of hospital, presence of plastic surgery in hospital, number of orthopedic specialist per 100 beds, sick leave benefits per day were the major significant variables in order. In stepwise multiple regression analysis with medical care benefits as a dependent variable, presence of plastic surgery in hospital, number of orthopedic specialist per 100 beds, number of amputated finger, sick leave benefits per day, age, bed capacity of hospital were the major significant variables in order. The minimum optimal size with the lowest medical care benefits was a hospital with 300 beds. This shows that the economy of scale is also applicable for hospital industry. In summary, presence of plastic surgery in hospital, number of orthopedic specialist per 100 beds, number of amputated finger, sick leave benefits per day, bed capacity of hospital were the major significant variables in both patient days and medical care benefits.
