  • This study was conducted to analyze the variation of hydro-geomorphological environment along Baekgok wetland, which experiencing periodical inundation, in that water-level fluctuation of reservoir caused by irrigation. Since the field data is unavailable, modeling techniques, involving models such as HSPF and TELEMAC-2D, have been applied to simulate hydrological cycle in watershed and hydrodynamics in channel scale. The result of simulation indicates that the water-level of reservoir determines both the water surface extension and water depth in the wetland. Furthermore, it also shows that water-level functions as a spatial limit factor for a fluvial environment and woody vegetation such as willow. The fact of which the scale of water-level fluctuation being larger than an average topographical relief along the wetland can explain the result. While the water-level kept high, the wetland is submerged and waterbody becomes lentic. In contrast, while the water-level is lowered, fluvial phenomena of which being dependent on flow rate and channel shape become active. Hence, the valid fluvial process is likely to take place only for 4 months annually just near the channel, and it advances to a conclusion expecting a deposition to be dominant among the wetland except for such area. It is anticipated that such understanding can contribute to establishing plans to preserve the geomorphological and ecological value of the Baekgok wetland.

  • In this paper, a 4-channel common-cathode VCSEL diode driver array with 3.125 Gb/s per channel operation speed is realized. In order to achieve faster speed of the switching main driver with relatively large transistors, the transmitter array chip consists of a pre-amplifier with active inductor stage and also an input buffer with modified equalizer, which leads to bandwidth extension and reduced current consumption. The utilized VCSEL diode provides inherently 2.2 V forward bias voltage, $50{\Omega}$ resistance, and 850 fF capacitance. In addition, the main driver based upon current steering technique is designed, so that two individual current sources can provide bias currents of 3.0 mA and modulation currents of 3.3 mA to VCSEL diodes. The proposed 4-channel VCSEL driver array has been implemented by using a $0.11-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology, and the chip core occupies the area of $0.15{\times}0.18{\mu}m^2$ and dissipates 22.3 mW per channel.

  • Applications of Si have been increasingly exploited and extended to More-Moore, More-than-Moore, and beyond-CMOS approaches. Ge is regarded as one of the supplements for Si owing to its higher carrier mobilities and peculiar band structure, facilitating both advanced and optical applications. As an emerging metal-oxide device, the junctionless field-effect transistor (JLFET) has drawn considerable attention because of its simple process, less performance fluctuation, and stronger immunity against short-channel effects due to the absence of anisotype junctions. In this study, we investigated lateral field scalability, which is equivalent to channel-length scaling, in Si and Ge JLFETs. Through this, we can determine the usability of Si CMOS and hypothesize its replacement by Ge. For simulations with high accuracy, we performed rigorous modeling for ${\mu}_n$ and ${\mu}_p$ of Ge, which has seldom been reported. Although Ge has much higher ${\mu}_n$ and ${\mu}_p$ than Si, its saturation velocity ($v_{sat}$) is a more determining factor for maximum $I_{on}$. Thus, there is still room for pushing More-Moore technology because Si and Ge have a slight difference in $v_{sat}$. We compared both p- and n-type JLFETs in terms of $I_{on}$, $I_{off}$, $I_{on}/I_{off}$, and swing with the same channel doping and channel length/thickness. $I_{on}/I_{off}$ is inherently low for Ge but is invariant with $V_{DS}$. It is estimated that More-Moore approach can be further driven if Si is mounted on a JLFET until Ge has a strong possibility to replace Si for both p- and n-type devices for ultra-low-power applications.

  • In this paper, the derivation of protection ratio is newly proposed for the detailed planning of frequency coordination in microwave relay networks, and computed results for protection ratio of co-channel and adjacent channel are illustrated over the actual system and its frequency. It is shown that the suggested method based upon availability prediction can be expressed in terms of composite fade margin, interference-to-noise ratio(I/N), net filter discrimination, and system parameters. According to results, for 6.7 GHz, 60 km, 64-QAM, and I/N= -6 dB at BER $10^{-6}$, composite fade margin and co-channel protection ratio provide 25.5 and 50.7 dB, respectively. Also, net filter discrimination and adjacent channel protection ratio are obtained as 26.3 and 24.4 dB, respectively, at the first adjacent channel of 40 MHz. The proposed method provides some merits in computing protection ratio for microwave relay networks in view of an easy extension and practical applications considering more detailed and various system parameters.

  • A novel selective oxidation process has been developed for low source/drain (S/D) series resistance of the fin channel metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET). Using this technique, the selective oxidation fin-channel MOSFET (SoxFET) has the gate-all-around structure and gradually enhanced S/D extension regions. The SoxFET demonstrated over 70% reduction in S/D series resistance compared to the control device. Moreover, it was found that the SoxFET behaved better in performance, not only a higher drive current but also higher transconductances with suppressing subthreshold swing and drain induced barrier lowering (DIBL) characteristics, than the control device. The saturation current, threshold voltage, peak linear transconductance, peak saturation transconductance, subthreshold swing, and DIBL for the fabricated SoxFET are 305 ㎂/㎛, 0.33 V, 13.5 𝜇S, 76.4 𝜇S, 78 mV/dec, and 62 mV/V, respectively.

  • This paper makes a study of a formulation of net filter discrimination(NFD) and its computation for analyzing adjacent channel interference and suggests a systematic algorithm for calculating protection ratios of co-channel and adjacent channel applicable to frequency coordination in the fixed radio relay networks. It is shown that adjacent channel protection ratio can be derived from two factors: One is NFD depending upon receiver filter characteristic as well as transmitter spectrum mask and the other is co-channel protection ratio given by a function of fade margin, modulation scheme, and allowable interference. Actually to show the computing procedure from transmitter spectrum mask and receiver filter characteristic, NFD has been obtained for channel bandwidth of 29.65 and 40 MHz at 6.2 and 6.7 GHz band, respectively. According to the results, NFDs at the first adjacent channel of 29.65 and 40 MHz provide 27.4 and 28.9 dB, respectively. From these data, adjacent channel protection ratios corresponding to each channel bandwidth yield 47.5 and 46.3 dB for a given 64-QAM and 60 km. The proposed method gives some merits of an easy calculation, systematic extension, and applying the same concept to frequency coordination in millimeter radio relay networks.

  • In this paper, the possibility of a terrestrial fixed 4K UHD (Ultra High Definition) and mobile HD (High Definition) convergence broadcasting service through a single channel employing the FEF (Future Extension Frame) multiplexing technique in DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting)-T2 (Second Generation Terrestrial) systems is examined. The performance of such a service is also investigated. FEF multiplexing technology can be used to adjust the FFT (fast Fourier transform) and CP (cyclic prefix) size for each layer, whereas M-PLP (Multiple-Physical Layer Pipe) multiplexing technology in DVB-T2 systems cannot. The convergence broadcasting service scenario, which can provide fixed 4K UHD and mobile HD broadcasting through a single terrestrial channel, is described, and transmission requirements of the SHVC (Scalable High Efficiency Video Coding) technique are predicted. A convergence broadcasting transmission system structure is described by employing FEF and transmission technologies in DVB-T2 systems. Optimized transmission parameters are drawn to transmit 4K UHD and HD convergence broadcasting by employing a convergence broadcasting transmission structure, and the reception performance of the optimized transmission parameters under AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise), static Brazil-D, and time-varying TU (Typical Urban)-6 channels is examined using computer simulations to find the TOV (threshold of visibility). From the results, for the 6 and 8 MHz bandwidths, reliable reception of both fixed 4K UHD and mobile HD layer data can be achieved under a static fixed and very fast fading multipath channel.

  • In this paper, we present a new hierarchical model for performance analysis of channel allocation and packet service protocol in wireless n network. The proposed hierarchical model consists of two parts : upper and lower layer models. The upper layer model is the structure state model representing the state of the channel allocation and call service. The lower layer model, which captures the performance of the system within a given structure state, is the wireless packet retransmission protocol model. These models are developed using SRN which is an modeling tool. SRN, an extension of stochastic Petri net, provides compact modeling facilities for system analysis. To get the performance index, appropriate reward rates are assigned to its SRN. Fixed point iteration is used to determine the model parameters that are not available directly as input. That is, the call service time of the upper model can be obtained by packet delay in the lower model, and the packet generation rates of the lower model come from call generation rates of the upper model.

  • This paper presents a resource management mechanism for the mesh networking in IEEE 802.15.3 High-rate WPAN. IEEE 802.15 TGS is standardizing the MAC and PHY for mese networking. This task group researches the mechanism that are extension of network coverage without increasing transmit power of receive sensitivity, and studies the enhanced reliability via route redundancy. In this paper we propose the distributed resource management scheme that is fairly using the channel resource in the piconet without centralized piconet coordinator. Each DEV reserves the channel time and broadcasts its information. This scheme has unfairness for later associated DEV because of preoccupation of earlier associated DEVs. This paper presents the method that fairly allocates the channel time in MAC layer. And we evaluate the performance enhancement using simple simulations.

  • Today, the fashion market challenged by a maturing retail market needs a new paradigm in the "evolution of brand" to improve their comparative advantages. An important issue in fashion marketing is lifestyle brand extension with a specific aim to meet consumers' specific needs for their changing lifestyle. For fashion brand extensions into lifestyle product categories, Gen Y and Baby Boomer are emerging as "prospects"-Baby Boomers who are renovating their lifestyle, and generation Y experiencing changes in their life stage-with demands for buying new products. Therefore, it is imperative that apparel companies pay special attention to the consumer cohort for brand extension to create and manage their brand equity in a new product category. The purposes of this study are to (a) evaluate brand equity between parent and extension brands; (b) identify consumers' perceived marketing elements for brand extension; and (c) estimate a structural equation model for examining causative relationship between marketing elements and brand equity for brand extensions in lifestyle product category including home fashion items for the selected two groups (e.g., Gen Y, and Baby boomer). For theoretical frameworks, this study focused on the traditional marketing 4P's mix to identify what marketing element is more importantly related to brand extension equity for this study. It is assumed that comparable marketing capability can be critical to establish "brand extension equity", leads to successfully entering the new categories. Drawing from the relevant literature, this study developed research hypotheses incorporating brand equity factors and marketing elements by focusing on the selected consumers (e.g., Gen Y, Baby Boomer). In the context of brand extension in the lifestyle products, constructs of brand equity consist of brand awareness/association, brand perceptions (e.g., perceived quality, emotional value) and brand resonance adapted from CBBE factors (Keller, 2001). It is postulated that the marketing elements create brand extension equity in terms of brand awareness/association, brand perceptions by the brand extension into lifestyle products, which in turn influence brand resonance. For data collection, the sample was comprised of Korean female consumers in Gen Y and Baby Boomer consumer categories who have a high demand for lifestyle products due to changing their lifecycles. A total of 651 usable questionnaires were obtained from female consumers of Gen Y (n=326) and Baby Boomer (n=325) in South Korea. Structural and measurement models using a correlation matrix was estimated using LISREL 8.8. Findings indicated that perceived marketing elements for brand extension consisted of three factors: price/store image, product, and advertising. In the model of Gen Y consumers, price/store image had a positive effect on brand equity factors (e.g., brand awareness/association, perceived quality), while product had positive effect on emotional value in the brand extensions; and the brand awareness/association was likely to increase the perceived quality and emotional value, leading to brand resonance for brand extensions in the lifestyle products. In the model of Baby Boomer consumers, price/store image had a positive effect on perceived quality, which created brand resonance of brand extension; and product had a positive effect on perceived quality and emotional value, which leads to brand resonance for brand extension in the lifestyle products. However, advertising was negatively related to brand equity for both groups. This study provides an insight for fashion marketers in developing a successful brand extension strategy, leading to a sustainable competitive advantage. This study complements and extends prior works in the brand extension through critical factors of marketing efforts that affect brand extension success. Findings support a synergy effect on leveraging of fashion brand extensions (Aaker and Keller, 1990; Tauber, 1988; Shine et al., 2007; Pitta and Katsanis, 1995) in conjunction with marketing actions for entering into the new product category. Thus, it is recommended that marketers targeting both Gen Y and Baby Boomer can reduce marketing cost for entering the new product category (e.g., home furnishings) by standardized marketing efforts; fashion marketers can (a) offer extension lines with premium ranges of price; (b) place an emphasis on upscale features of store image positioning by a retail channel (e.g., specialty department store) in Korea, and (c) combine apparel with lifestyle product assortments including innovative style and designer’s limited editions. With respect to brand equity, a key to successful brand extension is consumers’ brand awareness or association that ensures brand identity with new product category. It is imperative for marketers to have knowledge of what contributes to more concrete associations in a market entry into new product categories. For fashion brands, a second key of brand extension can be a "luxury" lifestyle approach into new product categories, in that higher price or store image had impact on perceived quality that established brand resonance. More importantly, this study increases the theoretical understanding of brand extension and suggests directions for marketers as they establish marketing program at Gen Y and Baby Boomers.
