This study aims at examining closely the scour around a pier due to irregular water stage changes during flood. At the Sangye bridge is located lowermost downstream of the Bocheong stream in the Kum River, the IHP experimental watershed. For this purpose, we have analyzed the change of scour depths due to stage hydrographs of experimental basin by a simulation. To examine the scour phenomenon around a pier due to irregular stage change in flood, we have analyzed the change of scour depth corresponding to stage hydrograph of field watershed after verification of model channel. From this study, the following conclusions are made: First, in case of predicting the maximum scour depth around a pier with stage hydrograph in the state of steady flow, we should choose the highest stage. Second, after increasing the stage, the equilibrium scour depth became smaller than the maximum scour depth. Therefore, in case of estimating the maximum scour depth in rivers, it is recommended that we should consider additional scour depth with is reduced by infilling the sediments.

A surface-piercing barrier model is presented for understanding morphological development in the sheltered region and investigating the main factors causing the severe accumulation. Surface-piercing structures like vertical barriers, surface docks and floating breakwaters are recently favored from the point of view of a marine scenario since they do not in general partition the natural sea. The numerical solutions are compared with experimental data on wave profiles and morphological change rates within a rectangular harbor of a constant depth protected by surface-piercing thin breakwaters as a simplified problem. Our numerical study involves several modules: 1) wave dynamics analyzed by a plane-wave approximation, 2) suspended sediment transport combined with sediment erosion-deposition model, and 3) concurrent morphological changes. Scattering waves are solved by using a plane wave method without inclusion of evanescent modes. Evanescent modes are only considered in predicting the reflection ratio against the vertical barrier and energy losses due to vortex shedding from the lower edge of plate are taken into account. A new relationship to relate the near-bed concentration to the depth-mean concentration is presented by analyzing the vertical structure of concentration. The numerical solutions were also compared with experimental data on morphological changes within a rectangular harbor of constant water depth. Through the numerical experiments, the vortex-induced flow appears to be not ignorable in predicting the morphological changes although the immersion depth of a plate is not deep.

The effect of the bow shape on the ship motion response in longitudinal regular waves of water of finite depth is investigated by employing the strip theory. The two-dimensional hydrodynamic forces(added mass and damping) were calculated by close-fit method for water of finite depth. The models for investigation are U and V bow ship forms of block coefficient 0.8 with constant after body which were used by Yourkov [2] and recently by Kim [3] for their deep water investigations. The following results are obtained by the present numerical experiments. (1) It is confirmed that the damping coefficient of the V-bow ship is greater than that of U-bow ship and in consquence the amplitude of heave and pitch of V-bow ship is smaller than that of U-bow ship among longitudinal regular head waves in water of finite depth (2) The merit of the V-bow ship on the motion damping is more significant in heave than in pitch, and is decreasing with the shallowness of water depth. (3) The change of bow form gives little effect on the wave exciting force and moment compared with the motion responce.
In 60 years when the double $CO_2$concentration is anticipated the average annual rainfall depth is expected to be increased by 5 10% due to global warming. However, in the water resources area the frequency change of meteorological extremes such as droughts and floods attracts more interests than the increase of annual rainfall amount. Even though recent frequent occurrences of this kind of meteorological extremes are assumed as an indirect proof of global warming, the prediction of its overall tendency has not yet been made. Thus, in this research we propose a possible methodology to be used for its prediction. The methodology proposed is based on the frequency distribution of daily rainfall be Todorovie and Woolhiser(1975), and Katz(1977), where the input parameters are modified to consider the change of monthly or annual rainfall depth and, thus, to result in the change of frequency distribution. We adopt two values(10mm, 50mm) as thresholds and investigate the change of occurrence probability due to the change monthly and annual rainfall depth. these changes do not directly indicate the changes of occurrence probability of floods and droughts, but it may still be a very useful information for their prediction. Finally, the changes of occurrence probability were found to be greater when considering the monthly rainfall rather than the annual rainfall, and those in rainy season than those in dry season.

Along with climate change, it is reported that the extreme climate events such as severe drought could cause difficulties of agricultural water supply. To minimize such damages, it is necessary to secure the agricultural water resources by using or saving the amount of irrigation water efficiently. The objectives of this study were to develop paddy water management scenarios and to evaluate their effectiveness on water saving. Three water management scenarios (a) deep irrigation with ponding depth of 20~80 mm (control, CT), (b) no/intermittent irrigation until paddy cracks (water management A, WM-A), and (c) intermittent irrigation with ponding depth under 20 mm (water management B, WM-B) were developed. Water saving effects were analyzed using monitored data from experimental paddy fields, and agricultural water supply was analyzed on a reservoir-scale using MASA model. The observed irrigation amounts were reduced by 21 % and 17 % for WM-A and WM-B compared to CT, respectively, and mainly occurred by the increase of effective rainfall. The simulation results showed that water management scenarios could reduce irrigation by 21~51 % and total inflow by 10~24 % compared to CT. The long-term simulated water level change of agricultural reservoir resulted in the decrease of dead level occurrence for WM-A and WM-B. The study results showed that WT-A and WT-B have more benefit than CT in the aspect of agricultural reservoir water supply.

The Central Electrode Correction Factor that corrects the effect due to the electrode being made of non-air material is base on the data from the depth of 5cm in water. But TG-51 protocol proposes the reference depth of 10cm in water. The purpose of this research is to check the alteration of Central Electrode Correction Factor due to the change of reference depth from 5cm to 10cm in water using Monte Carlo Computing Methods. The results showed that the change of Central Electrode Correction Factor is ignorable in the statistical errors of 2% for two different depth, 5cm and 10cm.
We analyzed the harmonic and non-harmonic constant of Geum River estuary to know tidal change of the before and after construction at Geum River estuary dike. As a result of analysis, the harmonic and non-harmonic constant after estuary dike building increased. Also, depth change analyzed at each section by using each year chart data. As a result, scour was occurred in the channel between south and north side guide bank. And accretion was occurred at channel from Kunsan outer port to estuary dike. Tidal change was judged as the effect of construction and dredge, watergate closing at Geum River estuary dike. And water depth change is a cause by effection of Geum River estuary dike construction and, south-north side guide bank, Kunjang country industrial complex furtherance business, seamangeum 4th sea bankment construction.

The high rate algal ponds (HRAP) powered and mixed by a paddlewheel have been widely used for over 50 years to culture microalgae for the production of various products. Since light incidence is limited to the surface, water depth can affect microalgal growth in HRAP. To investigate the effect of water depth on microalgal growth, a mixed microalgal culture constituting three major strains of microalgae including Chlorella sp., Scenedesmus sp., and Stigeoclonium sp. (CSS), was grown at different water depths (20, 30, and 40 cm) in the HRAP, respectively. The HRAP with 20cm of water depth had about 38% higher biomass productivity per unit area ($6.16{\pm}0.33g{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}d^{-1}$) and required lower nutrients and energy consumption than the other water depths. Specifically, the algal biomass of HRAP under 20cm of water depth had higher settleability through larger floc size (83.6% settleability within 5 min). These results indicate that water depth can affect the harvesting process as well as cultivation of microalgae. Therefore, we conclude that water depth is an important parameter in HRAP design for mass cultivation of microalgae.

For the first time, the present study has measured the velocity distribution function in circular open channel flow in a three-dimensional shape using a stereoscopic PIV system. For a given channel slope, water depth was varied from 30% to 80% of the channel diameter. Then, the characteristics of the velocity distribution function was compared according to the change of the water depth. Unlike a rectangular channel, the present experiment exhibited quite different shapes in the velocity distribution function whether the water depth is higher than 50% or not. Especially, the position of maximum velocity in the central and side wall changes in a different manner for the water depth above 50%. By differentiating the velocity distribution function, local wall friction coefficient was evaluated as a function of wall position. If the water depth goes down, the difference between the maximum and minimum values in the local wall friction coefficient increases, and the averaged value a1so increases.
Installing floating structures in a coastal area requires careful observation of the finite-depth effect. In this paper, a Rankine panel method that includes the finite-depth effect is developed in the time domain. The bottom boundary condition is satisfied by directly distributing Rankine panels on the bottom surface. A stepwise analysis is performed for the radiation diffraction problems and consequently freely-floating motion responses over different water depths. The hydrodynamic properties of two test hulls, a Series 60 and a floating barge, are compared to the results from another computation program for validation purposes. The results for both hulls change remarkably as the water depth becomes shallower. The important features of the results are addressed and the effects of a finite depth are discussed.
