  • Comparison challenge approach is proposed as a form of challenger-activated. just-in-time Internet advertising. To develop a framework for a comparison challenge, we propose a theory of comparison value. A comparison is regarded valuable if a comparison opportunity is available and if the comparison is relevant and informative, has an appropriate level of detail, and is advantageous and trustworthy. Based on this theory, the CompareMe and CompareThem strategies are devised, and comparable objects are classified in terms of price and performance dominance as well as the scope of proximity. The idea is demonstrated with a comparison of PCs from five leading manufacturers. To assist in the planning of the comparison challenge, a mathematical programming model was formulated to maximize the value of comparison under the constraints of the comparison opportunity and budget. The model is applied to eight scenarios in terms of the range of comparing objects. The models under various scenarios are tested and contrasted with the real-world example of PCs. We found the ad effect of comparison challenge to be substantially better than banners (4.75 times) and similarity-based comparisons (2.77 times), providing customers with better performance and reduced prices.

  • The purpose of this study was to validate the Korean Family Support & Challenge Questionnaire (K-SCQ), which is designed to assess family complexity in Children. There were 258 pre-test participants in this study and 498 senior students who were in elementary school. Results from the pre-test suggested us to use Likert scale over a dichotomous agree or disagree scale and positively items over negative ones. Results of the confirmatory factor analysis showed that the two factor structure (family support and challenge) of the SCQ fits well for Korean students. The K-SCQ has also good internal consistency. Further analysis was performed to explore the relationships between four family types based on K-SCQ and children's well-being and flow experience. It showed that the children in a high support/high challenge family had the highest emotional well-being, psychological well-being, and flow experience. These results suggest that the complex family characterized by high support and challenge has strong and positive impact on the children's quality of life.

  • To resist the relay attacks in RFID system, it is commonly used RFID distance bounding protocols using the round trip time measurement for 1 bit challenge and response between a reader and a tag. If the success probability of relay attacks for the 1 bit challenge and response can be reduced in these protocols, it is possible to make an efficient distance bounding protocol. In this paper, we propose an efficient RFID distance bounding protocol based on 2 bit challenge and response which is modified the RFID distance bounding protocol proposed by Hancke and Khun based on 1 bit challenge and response. The success probability of relay attack for the proposed protocol is (7/16)n for the n times of challenge and response, which is much lower than (3/4)n given by Hancke and Khun's protocol.

  • This study was conducted to assess the effects of the dietary supplementation of riboflavin (as a bile salt hydrolase [BSH] inhibitor) and Bacillus subtilis on growth performance and woody breast of male broilers challenged with Eimeria spp. Intestinal bacteria, including supplemented probiotics, can produce BSH enzymes that deconjugate conjugated bile salts and reduce fat digestion. A 3 × 2 × 2 (riboflavin × Bacillus subtilis × Eimeria spp. challenge) factorial arrangement of treatments in randomized complete block design was used. On d 14, birds were gavaged with 20× doses of commercial cocci vaccine (CoccivacR -B52, Merck Animal Health, Omaha, NE). Dietary treatment of riboflavin and B. subtilis did not affect body weight (BW), body weight gain (BWG), and feed conversion (FCR) d 0 to 14 and overall d 0 to 41. Eimeria spp challenge reduced BWG, feed intake (FI), and increased FCR between d 14 to 28, but increased BWG and lowered FCR between d 28 to 35. There were no effects of the Eimeria spp. challenge on the overall d 0 to 41 FCR and FI, but BWG was reduced. Eimeria spp. challenge increased the abdominal fat pad weight and slight woody breast incidences on processed birds on d 42. Dietary inclusion of B. subtilis and riboflavin at tested levels did not help birds to mitigate the negative impact of Eimeria spp. challenge to enhance the growth performance.

  • This study was conducted to determine whether L-arginine (Arg) supplementation could improve intestinal function in weaned pigs after an Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) challenge. Treatments included: i) non-challenged control (CONTR, pigs fed a control diet and injected with sterile saline); ii) LPS-challenged control (LPS, pigs fed the same control diet and challenged by injection with Escherichia coli LPS); iii) LPS+0.5% Arg (pigs fed a 0.5% Arg diet and challenged with LPS); and iv) LPS+1.0% Arg (pigs fed a 1.0% Arg diet and challenged with LPS). On d 16, pigs were administrated with LPS or sterile saline. D-xylose was orally administrated at 2 h following LPS challenge, and blood samples were collected at 3 h following LPS challenge. At 6 h post-challenge, pigs were sacrificed and intestinal mucosa samples were collected. Supplementation of Arg attenuated LPS-induced damage in gut digestive and barrier functions, as indicated by an increase in ileal lactase activity, and duodenal and ileal diamine oxidase activities (p<0.05). Arg administration also prevented the increase of jejunal malondialdehyde content and the decrease of ileal superoxide dismutase activity by LPS challenge (p<0.05). Furthermore, the jejunal nitric oxide level and inducible nitric oxide synthase activity were also improved after Arg supplementation (p<0.05). These results indicate that Arg supplementation has beneficial effects in alleviating the impairment of gut function induced by LPS challenge.

  • The purpose of this study is to comprehensively consider the challenge contents enjoyed based on SNS through the concept of Gamification and MDA framework. Regardless of the top-down and bottom-up divisions, in common, the participants show an active figure leading the creation and enjoyment of contents. As a result of analyzing the challenge contents using the MDA framework, the mechanics of 'relative level', 'challenge with expressive purpose', and 'Paidia rules' were found. This leads to the dynamics of participants who express an inner sense of achievement such as 'selection and competition for better expression' and 'selflessness and superiority', creating an environment where they can continuously participate in the challenge contents. Lastly, looking at the aesthetics of the challenge contents, it can be seen that participants are actively forming a play culture that leads the creation and enjoyment of contents. This phenomenon has resulted in breaking down the hegemony of content creation and distribution, which was the responsibility of society in the field of information transmission and commercial advertising.

  • We introduce a user authentication system using distance estimation and a simple challenge response protocol based on a pre-established key. Using the time difference of arrival between an RF signal and an ultrasonic signal, an authenticator verifies if a user's authentication token is within its threshold distance, and it also verifies if the token's response to its random challenge is valid. We implement our authentication system and we analyze the success rates for authentication according to the variations in the distances and facing angles between the authenticator and the token. Our experimental results show that the token is authenticated with very high probability in reasonable settings.

  • This research describes the comparison broker's role and its effectiveness measurement using a developed logical framework of comparison shopping service. And verifies that seller-led comparison challenge method provide comparison information of products to buyers more efficiently. In electronic commerce, buyer's satisfaction of purchase (S) can be defined as an interactive function between seller's competitiveness vector (P) of products that supplied to the market, and buyer's informed level vector (B) of products that is known from a lot of sources. Then the buyer's informed level can be changed through the information analysis among products by transformation process using comparison matrix (C). So the role of comparison shopping is to construct a comparison matrix and to serve it to the buyers, and to change the buyer's informed level. The changed informed level influences a buyer's satisfaction, that improved satisfaction of purchase is defined as the effectiveness of comparison shopping. As a perfect provision and usage of comparison matrix is impossible cause of cognitive limit, the most efficient method for improving the comparison effectiveness is the comparison challenge that detects the comparison elements of the largest buyer's information efficiency, and then to be compared between elementary products selectively. This research verifies the substantial superiority of comparison challenge through television market data experiments.

  • This paper proposes an one-time authentication system for web applications by making use of the quick-response code, which is widely used nowadays. The process is not time-consuming. It does not require any browser extensions or specific hardware to complete a task. The system uses QR code which is basically a two-dimensional black and white image encoding a piece of digital information. When a user logs into a site, the web server will generate a challenge encoded to form a QR code. The user captures a picture of QR code with a mobile camera which results in decoding the QR code. The challenge shall be sent back to the server; the web server then logs the PC browser in. The authentication using Challenge-Response is easy to understand and the process is fast. The system proposes the improvement of usability and security of online authentication.

  • Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems of nuclear power plants (NPPs) have been continuously digitalized. These systems have a critical role in the operation of nuclear facilities by functioning as the brain of NPPs. In recent years, as cyber security threats to NPP systems have increased, regulatory and policy-related organizations around the world, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Korea Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control (KINAC), have emphasized the importance of nuclear cyber security by publishing cyber security guidelines and recommending cyber security requirements for NPP facilities. As described in NRC Regulatory Guide (Reg) 5.71 and KINAC RS015, challenge response authentication should be applied to the critical digital I&C system of NPPs to satisfy the cyber security requirements. There have been no cases in which the most robust response authentication technology like challenge response has been developed and applied to nuclear I&C systems. This paper presents a challenge response authentication mechanism for a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) system used as a control system in the safety system of the Advanced Power Reactor (APR) 1400 NPP.
