Interaction of Indigo Carmine with Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide and Application to Determination of Cationic Surfactant in Wastewater

  • The microsurface adsorption - spectral correction (MSASC) technique has been applied to the interaction of indigo carmine (IC) with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The aggregation of IC on CTAB obeys Langmuir isothermal adsorption. The results show that both the monomer complex $IC{\cdot}CTAB$ and the micellar complex $(IC{\cdot}CTAB)_{78}$ were formed. The binding constant of the monomer complex was calculated to be $K_{IC{\cdot}CTAB}$ = 2.20 ${\times}10^5L{\cdot}mol^{-1}$, and the molar absorptivity of the micellar complex was calculated to be ${\varepsilon}_{(IC{\cdot}CTAB)78}\;^{560nm}$ = 8.58 ${\times}10^5L{\cdot}mol^{-1}{\cdot}cm^{-1}$. The aggregation was applied to the determination of cationic surfactant in wastewater.

  • DCI (dichlorolsocyanuric acid sodium salt)에 의한 PNPDPP (p-nitrophenyldiphenylphosphate)의 미셀 내에서의 분해 반응을 pH 8.0 borate 완충용액에서 속도론적으로 살펴보았다. 양이온성 계면활성제인 CTAC (cetyltrimethylammonium chloride) 또는 CTAB (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide)를 첨가하면 반응은 빠르게 촉진되었으며, 특히 CTAB의 경우는 DCI의 N-Cl 결합이 N-Br 결합으로 전환되어 반응이 진행되었다.

Spectrophotometric Determination of Trace Hg(II) in Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide Media

  • The simple and convenient determination of trace Hg(II) with its 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) complex in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) media has been studied. The UV-visible spectrum of Hg(II)-MBT complex in CTAB media had a good sensitivity and reproducibility. The Hg(II)-MBT complex in CTAB solution was very stable at pH 10.0 and could be quantitatively complexed if MBT were added to the sample solution more than 10 equivalent of Hg(II). The optimum concentration of CTAB was 0.001%. The calibration curve of Hg(II)-MBT complex with good linearity ($R^2$ = 0.9985) was obtained at the concentration range between $1.0{\times}10^-7$ and $1.0{\times}10^-5$ M in 0.001% CTAB media. The detection limit was $3.1{\times}10^-8$ M (6.2 ng m$L^{-1}$). Hg(II) in the synthetic samples and in the wastewater of the university's wastewater tank and the industrial wastewater tank could also be determined. Based on the experimental results, this proposed technique could be applied to the simple and convenient determination of trace Hg(II) in real samples.

  • 원자력 시설 내 방사능을 포함하는 물질의 제염을 위한 방법 중 거품제염은 2차폐기기물의 양을 저감시킬 수 있는 장점을 지니고 있다. 본 연구에서는 거품안정성을 증가시킬 수 있는 실리카 나노입자를 여러가지 조건을 달리하여 합성하였다. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB)는 거품제염제의 거품안정성에 많은 영향을 나타내었다. 이러한 거품안정성이 향상된 이유는 제염제 내에 공기와 용액간의 계면에서 실리카 나노입자와 계면활성제의 반응으로 생각된다. 또한, CTAB는 실리카나노입자의 분리특성에서도 우수한 성능을 나타냈었다. 실리카 나노입자 분리시, CTAB의 탄화수소기에 의한 소수성과 전하중성화에 의해서 실리카 나노입자의 응집현상을 향상시켰다.

Effects of Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide on the Corrosion Inhibition of a Lead-free α-Brass by Sodium Gluconate in Sulfuric Acid

  • The inhibition performance of sodium gluconate (SG), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and their mixture (SG/CTAB) on the corrosion behavior of ${\alpha}$-brass in 0.5 M $H_2SO_4$ solution has been investigated by potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), Scanning Electron Microscope with Energy-Dispersive Spectrometer (SEM-EDS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry (ICPS) and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation techniques. The results reveal that SG with 5ppm CTAB, noted SG/CTAB, acts as a good corrosion inhibitor and its inhibition efficiency reached 89% after 24 h immersion in sulfuric acid solution, but slightly decreased at higher temperatures. The polarization curves displayed that SG/CTAB acts as a cathodic-kind inhibitor. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) studies revealed that the addition of 5ppm CTAB to different concentrations of SG considerably increases the corrosion resistance of ${\alpha}$-brass. The SEM-EDS and ICPS analyses support the experimental results. Further, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were used to understand the adsorption profiles of SG/CTAB on Cu(111) and Zn(111) surfaces.

Voltammetric Determination of Bisphenol A Using a Carbon Paste Electrode Based on the Enhancement Effect of Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide (CTAB)

  • The influence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) on the electrochemical behavior of bisphenol A at the carbon paste electrode (CPE) was investigated. CTAB, with a hydrophobic C-H chain, can adsorb at the CPE surface via hydrophobic interaction and then change the electrode/solution interface, and finally affects the electrochemical response of bisphenol A, confirming from the remarkable oxidation peak current enhancement. The electrode process of bisphenol A was examined, and then all the experimental parameters which affects the electrochemical response of bisphenol A, such as pH value of the supporting electrolyte, accumulation potential and time, potential scan rate and the concentration of CTAB, were examined. Finally, a sensitive and simple voltammetric method was developed for the determination of bisphenol A. Under the optimum conditions, the oxidation peak current of bisphenol A varied linearly with its concentration over the range from $2.5\;{\times}\;10^{-8}\;to\;1\;{\times}\;10^{-6}$ mol/L, and the detection limit was found to be $7.5\;{\times}\;10^{-9}$ mol/L. This method was successfully employed to determine bisphenol A in some waste plastic samples.

Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide의 미셀화 현상에 미치는 온도 효과 및 n-알코올(프로판올, 부탄올, 펜탄올 및 헥산올) 효과 (Effects of Temperature and n-Alcohols (Propanol, Butanol, Pentanol and Hexanol) on the Micellization of Cetyltrimethylammonium Bromide)

  • 몇 가지 n-알코올들을 포함하는 수용액에서 Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB)의 임계 미셀농도(CMC) 및 미셀 상태에서 반대이온의 결합상수$(\beta)$값을 $17^{\circ}C{\sim}41^{\circ}C$까지의 온도범위 내에서 전도도법으로 측정하였으며, CTAB 계면활성제의 미셀화에 대한 열역학 함수값($({\Delta}G^o_m,\;{\Delta}H^o_m,\;{\Delta}S^o_m,\;{\Delta}C_p)$)들을 온도에 따른 CMC 및 $\beta값$의 변화로부터 계산하였다. 또한 CTAB 계면활성제의 미셀화에 대한 n-알코올(프로판올, 부탄올, 펜탄올 및 헥산올)의 효과를 조사하기 위하여 n-알코올의 농도에 따른 CMC 및 $\beta$값의 변화를 측정하였다. n-알코올을 작은 양으로 첨가하였을 때 CMC값과 $\beta$값은 감소하였다. 그러나 과량의 n-알코올을 첨가하였을 때 CMC값은 오히려 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 이러한 현상들을 n-알코올 분자들의 미셀속으로의 가용화 및 n-알코올 분자들의 가용화로 인한 미셀의 표면전하값의 변화와 관련하여 설명하였다.

수용액으로부터 표면 수식된 CdSe 나노 입자의 제조 및 특성 (Preparation and Characterization of Surface Capped CdSe Nanoparticles from an Aqueous Solution)

  • CTAB(cetyltrimethylammonium bromide)-capped CdSe nanoparticles were prepared by using a 4 : 1(v/v) distilled water-isopropyl alcohol mixture. The cadmium chloride and sodium selenosulfate were used as the cadmium and selenium source. By the analysis of XRD and XPS, the resultant particle was confirmed to be cubic CdSe phase. TEM image showed CdSe nanoparticles with empty core. The CTAB-capped sample showed an maximum absorption at 418nm, blue-shifting compared with bulk CdSe, which indicated stronger quantum confinement effect compared with uncapped sample. From FT-IR analysis, it was found that the presence of the new peaks in the $850{\sim}1250cm^{-1}$ range indicated the existence of chemical bonding between CTAB and surface of CdSe nanoparticles. Also TG analysis indicated that there were two weight-loss steps for the CTAB-capped CdSe nanoparticles. It was suggested that CTAB played a significant role in protecting CdSe nanoparticles.

Flow Injection Analysis에 의한 란탄족 이온들의 흡광광도 정량 (Spectrophotometric Determination of Lanthanide Ions by Flow Injection Analysis)

  • 라탄족(III) 이온과 methylthymol blue 및 cetyltrimethylammonium bromide의 삼성 분계에 라탄족(III)-methylthymol blue 착물의 분광학적 특성을 조사하고 이를 토대로 흐름주입법에 의하여 라탄족(III) 이온들을 정량하였다. pH 5.8인 cetyltrimethylammonium bromide 용액에서 라탄족(III)-methylthymol blue 착물의 최대 흡수 파장은 대략 635nm 영역이며, 몰흡광계수는 $^{64}Gd$(III)로부터 $^{70}Yb$(III)에 대해 $4.51{\sim}6.11{\times}10^4Lmol^{-1}cm^{-l}$였다. Cetyltrimethyl-ammonium bromide 존재하에서, 이들 착물의 조성비는 1:2였다. 흐름주입법에 의한 란탄족(III) 이온의 검정곡선은 0.1~0.4ppm 범위에서 Beer의 법칙에 따른다. 시료의 분석속도는 약 60개 $hr^{-1}$이었다. 여러 양이온과 음이온의 영향을 조사한 결과 tartrate나 citrate 같은 리간드 음이온과 대부분 전이원소, 희토류 원소들에 의해 방해를 받았으며, 이들 양이온들은 란탄족(III) 이온을 정량하기 전에 사전 제거가 필요하다.
