In-Ceram system is one of contemporary esthetic all ceramic restorations and has relatively high flexural strength. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fit of In-Ceram crown according to shoulder width and measuring position. In this study, twenty seven In-Ceram crowns devided into three groups, each prepared with shoulder width of 0.6mm, 0.9mm and 1.2mm. All specimens were cemented with glass ionomer cement. After cementation, specimens were measured marginal gap between the margin of the In-Ceram crown and the finishing line of resin master die by using a refrective microscope. Marginal gaps were recorded at the labial, lingual, mesial and distal measuring points on the resin master die. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Mean marginal fits of each group were $81.28{\mu}m$ in 0.6mm shoulder width, $70.78{\mu}m$ in 0.9mm shoulder width and $67.75{\mu}m$ in 1.2mm shoulder width. 2. There was significant difference between group 0.6mm and 0.9mm, 1.2mm.(p<0.05). 3. In comparison of marginal fit according to the measuring points, there was no significant difference.

PURPOSE. All-ceramic restorations required extensive tooth preparation. The purpose of this in vitro study was to investigate a minimally invasive preparation and thickness of monolithic zirconia crowns, which would provide sufficient mechanical endurance and strength. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Crowns with thickness of 0.2 mm (group 0.2, n=32) or of 0.5 mm (group 0.5, n=32) were milled from zirconia and fixed with resin-based adhesives (groups 0.2A, 0.5A) or zinc phosphate cements (groups 0.2C, 0.5C). Half of the samples in each subgroup (n=8) underwent thermal cycling and mechanical loading (TCML)(TC: $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$, $2{\times}3,000cycles$, 2 min/cycle; ML: 50 N, $1.2{\times}10^6cycles$), while the other samples were stored in water ($37^{\circ}C/24h$). Survival rates were compared (Kaplan-Maier). The specimens surviving TCML were loaded to fracture and the maximal fracture force was determined (ANOVA; Bonferroni; ${\alpha}=.05$). The fracture mode was analyzed. RESULTS. In both 0.5 groups, all crowns survived TCML, and the comparison of fracture strength among crowns with and without TCML showed no significant difference (P=.628). Four crowns in group 0.2A and all of the crowns in group 0.2C failed during TCML. The fracture strength after 24 hours of the cemented 0.2 mm-thick crowns was significantly lower than that of adhesive bonded crowns. All cemented crowns provided fracture in the crown, while about 80% of the adhesively bonded crowns fractured through crown and die. CONCLUSION. 0.5 mm thick monolithic crowns possessed sufficient strength to endure physiologic performance, regardless of the type of cementation. Fracture strength of the 0.2 mm cemented crowns was too low for clinical application.
PURPOSE. This study aimed to evaluate the fit of zirconia ceramics before and after veneering, using 3 different veneering processes (layering, press-over, and CAD-on techniques). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty standardized zirconia CAD/CAM frameworks were constructed and divided into three groups of 10 each. The first group was veneered using the traditional layering technique. Press-over and CAD-on techniques were used to veneer second and third groups. The marginal gap of specimens was measured before and after veneering process at 18 sites on the master die using a digital microscope. Paired t-test was used to evaluate mean marginal gap changes. One-way ANOVA and post hoc tests were also employed for comparison among 3 groups (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. Marginal gap of 3 groups was increased after porcelain veneering. The mean marginal gap values after veneering in the layering group ($63.06{\mu}m$) was higher than press-over ($50.64{\mu}m$) and CAD-on ($51.50{\mu}m$) veneered groups (P<.001). CONCLUSION. Three veneering methods altered the marginal fit of zirconia copings. Conventional layering technique increased the marginal gap of zirconia framework more than pressing and CADon techniques. All ceramic crowns made through three different veneering methods revealed clinically acceptable marginal fit.
In this study, we describe the conventional hot pressing (CHP) of layered $Al-B_4C$ composites and their characterization. The matrix alloy Al-5 wt.%Cu was prepared from elemental powder mixtures. The metal and B4C powders were mixed to produce either $Al-Cu-10vol.%B_4C$ or $Al-Cu-30vol.%B_4C$ combinations. Then, these powder mixtures were stacked as layers in the hot pressing die to form a two-layered composite. Hot pressing was carried out under nitrogen atmosphere to produce $30\times40\times5mm$ specimens. Microstructural features and age hardening characteristics of composites were determined by specimens cut longitudinally. The flexural strength of both layered composites and their monolithic counterparts were investigated via three point bending tests. In the case of layered specimens of both $10vol.%B_4C$ and $30vol.%B_4C$ containing layers were loaded for three-point test. The results show that a homogeneous distribution of $B_4C$ particles in the matrix alloy which is free of pores, can be obtained by CHP method. The ageing behavior of the composites was found to be influenced by the reinforced materials, i.e. higher hardness values were reached in 8 hrs for the composites than that for the matrix alloy. Flexural strength test showed that two-layered composites exhibited improved damage tolerance depending on layer arrangement. Microstructural investigation of the fracture surfaces of the bending specimens was performed by means of scanning electron microscope (SEM). While layer with lower reinforcement content exhibited large plastic deformation under loading, the other with higher reinforcement content exhibited less plastic deformation.
To improve freshness maintenance function of food containers, many methods have been applied. Most of the methods utilize absorption properties of porous ceramics powders. However, this kind of methods was appeared to be a non-realistic one because of the short effective periods of the produce and reduced die life due to the ceramic powders mixed in the raw materials. Other methods, e.g., CA or MA, need more study for practical application bemuse of the high cost in process. In addition to this, different method should be applied depends on foods. In this paper, a new technology based on information templation was applied in making a food preservation film. It has been known recently that water memorizes informations and this information could be tempelated to other materials through appropriate pretest. One of the participating company developed this process to template informations to PE materials unitizing water as an information rallier. Food packaging film was made using this PE chips. Experimental results of freshness maintenance test of foods showed that it is effective. Results and disussions are reported in this paper.
The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of copy-milled and conventional In-Ceram crown. Four groups of ten uniform sized all-ceramic crowns were fabricated. In-Ceram Spinell and In-Ceram Alumina crowns were fabricated as control group, Celay In-Ceram Spinell and Celay In-Ceram Alumina crowns were fabricated as test group. All specimen were cemented on stainless steel master die with resin cement, and stored in $37^{\circ}C$ water for 1 day prior to loading in Instron testing machine. Using a steel ball at a crosshead surfed of 0.5mm/min, the crowns were loaded at $30^{\circ}C$ angle until catastrophic failure occurred. The results obtained were as follows : 1. With the value of $984.8N{\pm}103.67N$, the strength of Celay In-Ceram Alumina crowns had a significantly higher fracture strength than conventional In-Ceram Alumina crowns ($876.2N{\pm}92.20N$) (P<0.05) 2. The fracture strength of Celay In-Ceram Spinell crowns($706.3{\pm}70.59N$) was greater than that of conventional In-Ceram Spinell crowns($687.4{\pm}90.26N$), but there was no significant difference(P>0.05). 3. The In-Ceram Alumina crowns had a significantly higher fracture strength than In-Ceram Spinell crowns in both methods(P<0.05). 4. Ther order of fracture strength was as followed : Celay In-Ceram Alumina, In-Ceram Alumina, Celay In-Ceram Spinell and In-Ceram Spinell crowns
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fit of zirconia core using MAD/MAM system comparing to that of conventional metal-ceramic and CAD/CAM system. Materials and methods: Duplicating the prepared resin tooth, 50 improved stone dies were fabricated. These dies are classified as a group of 5 to create the core. The groups were composed of metal-ceramic, $Cercon^{(R)}$, $Ceramill^{(R)}$, $Rainbow^{TM}$, and $Zirkonzhan^{(R)}$. Each core was cemented to stone die, and then, absolute marginal discrepancy was measured with microscope at a magnification of ${\times}50$. Statistical analysis was done with one-way ANOVA test and Tukey's HSD test. Results: The mean absolute marginal discrepancy for metal-ceramic was $51.97{\pm}23.38{\mu}m$, for $Cercon^{(R)}$ was $62.16{\pm}25.88{\mu}m$, for $Ceramill^{(R)}$ was $67.64{\pm}40.38{\mu}m$, for $Rainbow^{TM}$ was $125.07{\pm}42.19{\mu}m$, and for $Zirkonzhan^{(R)}$ was $105{\pm}44.61{\mu}m$. Conclusion: 1. Fit of margin was identified as in the order of metal-ceramic, $Cercon^{(R)}$, $Ceramill^{(R)}$, $Zirkonzhan^{(R)}$, and $Rainbow^{TM}$. 2. Absolute marginal discrepancy of the zirconia core that designed by MAD/MAM system had significant differences in order of $Ceramill^{(R)}$, $Zirkonzhan^{(R)}$, and $Rainbow^{TM}$. 3. The mean absolute marginal discrepancy between $Cercon^{(R)}$ and $Ceramill^{(R)}$ did not show significant differences.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the fracture strength of traditional metal-ceramic crowns and full zirconia crowns according to the occlusal thickness. Materials and methods: A mandibular first molar resin tooth was prepared with 1.5 mm occlusal reduction, 1.0 mm rounded shoulder margin and $6^{\circ}$ taperness in the axial wall. Duplicating the resin tooth, 64 metal dies were fabricated. 48 full zirconia crowns were fabricated using Prettau zirconia blanks by ZIRKONZAHN CAD/CAM and classified into six groups according to the occlusal thickness (0.5 mm, 0.6 mm, 0.7 mm, 0.8 mm, 0.9 mm, 1.0 mm). 16 metal-ceramic crowns were fabricated and classified into two groups according to the occlusal porcelain thickness (1.0 mm, 1.5 mm). All crowns were cemented on each metal die and mounted in a universal testing machine. The load was directed at the functional cusp of each specimen until catastrophic failure occurred. One-way ANOVA, Tukey multiple comparison test (${\alpha}=.05$) and t-test (${\alpha}=.05$) were used. Results: The results were as follows. 1. The test 1 group (646.48 N) showed the lowest fracture strength (P<.05), and the value of the test 2.3.4.5 groups (866.40 N, 978.82 N, 1196.82 N, 1222.41 N) increased as thickness increased, but no significant difference were found with the groups (P>.05). The value of test 6 group (1781.24 N) was significantly higher than those of the other groups (P<.05). 2. There were no significant differences of the fracture strength of metal ceramic crowns according to occlusal porcelain thickness 1.0 mm (2515.71 N) and 1.5 mm (3473.31 N) (P<.05). Conclusion: Full zirconia crown needs to be 1.0 mm or over in occlusal thickness for the posterior area to have higher fracture strength than maximum bite force.
Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to compare the accuracy of four different metal copings fabricated by CAD/CAM technology and to evaluate clinical effectiveness. Materials and methods: Composite resin tooth of the maxillary central incisor was prepared for a metal ceramic crown and duplicated metal die was fabricated. Then scan the metal die for 12 times to obtain STL files using a confocal microscopy type oral scanner. Metal copings with a thickness of 0.5 mm and a cement space of $50{\mu}m$ were designed on a CAD program. The Co-Cr metal copings were fabricated by the following four methods: Wax pattern milling & Casting (WM), Resin pattern 3D Printing & casting (RP), Milling & Sintering (MS), Selective laser melting (SLM). Silicone replica technique was used to measure marginal and internal discrepancies. The data was statistically analyzed with One-way analysis of variance and appropriate post hoc test (Scheffe test) (${\alpha}=.05$). Results: Mean marginal discrepancy was significantly smaller in the Group WM ($27.66{\pm}9.85{\mu}m$) and Group MS ($28.88{\pm}10.13{\mu}m$) than in the Group RP ($38.09{\pm}11.14{\mu}m$). Mean cervical discrepancy was significantly smaller in the Group MS than in the Group RP. Mean axial discrepancy was significantly smaller in the Group WM and Group MS then in the Group RP and Group SLM. Mean incisal discrepancies was significantly smaller in the Group RP than in all other groups. Conclusion: The marginal and axial discrepancies of the Co-Cr coping fabricated by the Wax pattern milling and Milling/Sintering method were better than those of the other groups. The marginal, cervical and axial fit of Co-Cr copings in all groups are within a clinically acceptable range.

This study investigated the compressive fracture strength of Targis ceromer crown by the difference of occlusal thickness on a maxillary first premolar. Control group was a castable IPS-Empress all-ceramic crown with occlusal thickness of 1.5 mm constructed by layered technique. Experimental groups were Targis crowns having different occlusal thicknesses of 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 2.5 mm, respectively. The classification of Targis group is T10, T15, T20, T25 and T15N (for no-thermocycling and occlusal thickness of 1.5mm). Ten samples were tested per each group. Except occlusal thickness, all dimension of metal die is same with axial inclination of $10^{\circ}$and marginal width 0.8mm chamfer. All crowns were cemented with Panavia F and thermocycled 1,000 times between $5^{\circ}$ and $55^{\circ}$ water bath with 10 sec dwelling time and 10 sec resting time. The compressive fracture strength was measured by universal testing machine. The results were as follows : 1. Fracture strength was increased as the occlusal thickness increased : compressive fracture strength of Group T10, T15, T20, T25 was $66.65{\pm}4.88kgf$, $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$, $87.07{\pm}7.06kgf$ and $105.03{\pm}10.56kgf$, respectively. 2. When comparing material, Targis crown had higher fracture strength than IPS-Empress crown : the mean compressive strength of group T15 was $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$ and the value of group Control was $37.66{\pm}4.28kgf$. 3. Fracture strength was decreased by thermocycling : the compressive fracture strength of T15 was $75.04{\pm}3.01kgf$, which is lower than $90.69{\pm}6.88kgf$ of group T15N. 4. The fracture line of crowns began at the loading point and extended along long axis of tooth. IPS-Empress showed adhesive failure pattern whereas Targis had adhesive and cohesive failure. In the SEM view, stress was distributed radially from loading point and the crack line was more prominent on Targis crown.
