  • This paper proposes new features for recognizing telltale bulb in a cluster. A typical feature employed in model-based pattern recognition is polygonal approximation points of object. But recognition using these dominant points has many mismatching counts in small model such as telltale bulb. To reduce mismatching counts, proposed features are the circle distribution of object pixel and the ratio of distance from center to boundary in object. This Paper also proposes new decision function using three features. In simulation result, we make a comparison mismatching counts between recognition using dominant points and the new recognition algorithm using three features.

  • This paper proposes a color-based image retrieval method using color adjacency and gradient. In proposed method, both the adjacency of different colors and gradient of a color in homogeneous region are considered as features of an image. The gradient, defined as the maximum distance along the direction with largest change of color, is computed for each pixel to determine whether the center color is similar or different to the neighboring colors. Therefore the problems caused by uniform quantization, which is popularly used at most existing retrieval, can be avoided. And furthermore, the storage of the feature is reduced by the proposed binary representation.

  • This paper presetns an iterative relaxation method for stereo matching using matching probability and compatibility coefficients between disparities. Stereo matching can be considered as the labeling problem of assigning unique matches to feature points of image an relaxation labelin gis an iterative procedure which reduces local ambiguities and achieves global consistency. the relation between disparities is determined from highly reliable matches in initial matching and quantitatively expressed in temrs of compatibility coefficient. The matching results of neighbor pixels support center pixel through compatibility coefficients and update its matching probability. The proposed adaptive method reduces the degradtons on the discontinuities of disparity areas and obtains fast convergence.

  • In this paper, a an algorithm that detects the endocardial boundary, expanding the region from endocardial cavity using fuzzy inference, is proposed. This algorithm decides the ventricular cavity by fuzzy inference in process of searching each pixel from the inside of left ventricle in echocardial image and expands it. Uncertainty and fuzziness exists in decision of endocardial boundary. Therefore, we convert the lingustic representation of mean, standard deviation, and threshold value that are characteristic variables of endocardial boundary to fuzzy input and output variables. And, we extract proposed method is robuster to noise than radial searching method that is highly dependent on center position. To prove the similarity of detected boundary by fuzzy nference, we used the measures of SIZE, correlation coefficient, MSD, and RMSE and had acquired reasonable results.

  • Polarization of the light scattered by the lunar surface contains information on the mean particle size of the lunar regolith, which gradually decreases by continued micro-meteoroid impact over a long period and thus is an age indicator of the surface. We performed multi-band (U, B, V, R and I) polarimetric observations toward the whole near side of the Moon at the Lick observatory using a 15-cm reflecting telescope with 1.1km/pixel spatial resolution at the center of the lunar disk. We analyze the color dependence of the polarization properties of the lunar regolith and discuss its implication for the study of lunar swirls.

  • Dislocation density and distribution in epitaxial GaAs layer on Si are evaluated quantitatively and effectively using image processing of transmission electron microscopy image. In order to evaluate dislocation density and distribution, three methods are introduced based on line-intercept, line-length measurement and our coding with line-scanning method. Our coding method based on line-scanning is used to detect the dislocations line-by-line effectively by sweeping a thin line with the width of one pixel. The proposed method has advances in the evaluation of dislocation density and distribution. Dislocations can be detected automatically and continuously by a sweeping line in the code. Variation of dislocation density in epitaxial GaAs films can be precisely analyzed along the growth direction on the film.

  • Excellent moving picture performance of plasma TV has been confirmed through the study and measurement using the method proposed by the APDC (Advanced PDP Development Center Corporation). Full-HD Plasma TVs with pixels of $1920{\times}1080[1]-[2]$, showed more than 900 TV-lines of resolution out of maximum scale of 1080, while typical LCD of the same pixel count showed only 1/3 of the plasma's performance. Moreover, even the latest 120Hz models of $1920{\times}1080$ LCD do not much PDPs with pixels of $1024{\times}768$, or $1366{\times}786$ in moving picture resolution. The measurement system proposed by the APDC showed very good agreement with subjective tests.

  • Misalignment between the electronic and mechanical axes of rotation will result in artifact generation and image degradation during single photon emission computed tomography(SPECT) reconstruction. Acceptance and quality control testing procedures have not emphasized the variability in center of rotation(COR) measurements caused by collimators and the need to verify uniformity across the full collimator field of view (FOV). Variation from the mean COR across the FOV was tested in four different collimators using multiple point source acquisitions. The mean COR was different for each collimator and one of the four had a > 0.5 pixel difference from the mean COR on some area of the FOV, This variation makes this collimator unacceptable for SPECT acquisition. Thus, initial acceptance testing of SPECT collimators should verify a uniform COR across the full FOV and collimators with a variability from the mean COR > 0.5 pixels should be rejected.

  • This article reviews the development of flat-panel detectors for digital radiography based on amorphous materials, Important design parameters and developments are described for the two main components of flat-panel detectors: the X-ray converter and the readout pixel array. This article also introduces the advanced development concepts of new detectors. In addition, the cascaded linear systems method is reviewed because it is a very powerful tool for improving the design and assessment of X-ray imaging detector systems.
